In continuing our series of writing articles here at Plotmonkeys on Saturdays, I’m re-running a blog I posted at my old Marisela site about agents, thanks to Jodie, who posed the question to Carly. Here it is…it’s in THREE parts, with the WHO and HOW/WHEN articles to follow. —————————————————————————– There’s been a lot of discussion [...]

Ah, summer…a time for relaxing by the pool with a good book, right? Even for 9 year olds, as my daughter has received her first ever summer reading list of 12–count ‘em 12–books. Before our trip to Tennessee last weekend for my niece’s graduation, we went and picked up two of the books on her [...]

Hopefully, I’m recovering from my deadline right now (update…not yet recovering. The book is done, but I’m in editing mode. Finished product is due today.)…and chaperoning my daughter’s end-of-the-school-year party. I found this coolio toy at Jo Leigh’s blog. Fun stuff! As if you people didn’t already know everything about me… Click on Read my [...]

Because after losing those twelve pages yesterday (seven edited, five new…all brilliant and all gone,) this is what I’m offering this week. That’s one bottle of margarita mix, one tin of margarita cookies, one tin of margarita salt and one cute serving tray all from the El Paso Chile Company. Oh, and a book. There’s [...]

SPECIAL REMINDER: Be sure to stop by tomorrow, when bestselling author Cindy Gerard will be our special guest blogger! As you all know, I’m rolling into the home stretch of the book I’m writing for NAL, a contemporary paranormal. I’m getting closer and closer to the end everyday. Technically, the book was due yesterday, [...]

It’s been a great three weeks discussing my plotting style. Quick review: Plotting vs. Pantster = stupid argument. IMO, you do not have to pick one over the other, one is certainly not better than the other and most important, before you pick a style, understand both ways. You never know when the techniques from [...]

This summer, I have a lot to look forward to. First, I won’t be on a tight deadline. I’m on a deadline, but not a tight one…unless, of course, I futz around and don’t write steadily everyday, in which case, I’ll be back on a tight deadline (as is usually the case) by summer’s end. [...]

Last week, I talked a little bit about the difference between being a plotter or flying into the mist, ie, a panster. I admonished writers, particularly newbie ones, not to be so quick to label themselves and also, to realize that one way is not better than the other. I also told you that myself, [...]

This is a screenshot of my home page from Monday (click to enlarge, then hit the back button): Is it any wonder that I’m going nuts? Despite my note-taking, post-it note obsession while plotting, I’m not a list maker. I make the list…and then I lose the list. Or, as I do in the case [...]
