Happy Birthday Carly!!!!
Time for a Jungle Celebration…it’s Carly’s Birthday!!

And as such, we have a very special message from Carly’s mom:
Carly was born on a hot evening in July, a full two months ahead of schedule. Luckily for us, our tiny two pound, fourteen ounce daughter was ready to be born. She had all her fingernails and eyelashes. The only thing missing was her full body weight. We worried anyway. By the time she was ten months old, she caught up and was doing everything.
My relationship today is everything I could have hoped for. Karen is my first born, my friend, my shopping mate, my confidante and more.
I love her and am proud of her marriage and her children are the loves of my life. I am proud of her accomplishments and her career. She always gives something special to her family and friends. With all this, she always has time for me and her dad, and includes us in most everything, for which we are so very grateful.
Happy birthday, Carly! And many, many more.
We love you so much,
Mom and Dad
Pass the Kleenex!
As many of you might know, Carly is a 1965′er (as are Leslie, Julie and Janelle…and a few jungle friends around here. Jodie?) Anyway, we thought it might be fun to take a look at what the world was like on the day Carly was born.
First, some tidbits from www.paulsadowski.com (If you get a chance, go enter your own birthdate and share some fun details!)

And since I’m actually older than dirt, those sexy men all float my boat. Unless I’m sadly mistaken, they are Christopher Plummer; Steve McQueen; Tony Curtis; Warren Beatty; Paul Newman; Sidney Portier; Sean Connery (
); Clint Eastwood; and Richard Burton.
I was born in the Year of the Snake, too, (but way before Carly was). I am 1,746,781,433 seconds old. Ron Howard and I were born on the same day, one year apart and he was born in the small town I grew up in (my folks moved there a couple of years later from the even smaller town 12 miles north).
Have a wonderful day, Carly!

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, Carly! Leslie & I just played detective. I even talked to your mother on the phone. Now I know where you get your sense of humor and caring nature…you’re just like your mom!
Hope you have a fabulous day…and give Jackie a hug…she was in on it, too! We couldn’t have pulled this off without her.
Comment by JulieLeto — July 7, 2008 @ 9:41 am
Carly, I just wish I’d aged as gracefully as some of them!
Connery still makes my womanly bits stand up and say “yes, please!”
Leslie - Yeah. I miss the days of men being men and women being women, instead of vice versa. I will always remember the line Candice Bergman delivered in a “Murphy Brown” episode: I want a man whose thighs are bigger than mine!
I think that’s why women drool over the hunky men in romances - big, brawny, chesty men with muscular thighs! … Uhm … I think it’s time to get back to reading Carly’s book now….

Comment by ev — July 7, 2008 @ 9:52 am
Silver- the only one missing from that line up is Cary Grant!! The days when men were actually hunky and not metro. sigh.
let’s see, I was:
born on a Wednesday
under the astrological sign Aquarius.
Your Life path number is 8.
Your fortune cookie reads:
You will witness a special ceremony.
You were born in the Chinese year of the Rat. (I always hated that but found out that it is lucky)
Your Native American Zodiac sign is Otter; your plant is Fern.
Celebrities who share your birthday:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (1981) Paris Hilton (1981) Jerry O’Connell (1974)
Bryan White (1974) Billie Joe Armstrong (1972) Denise Richards (1972)
Michael Jordan (1963) Rene Russo (1954) Jim Brown (1936)
Alan Bates (1934) Hal Holbrook (1925) Arthur Kennedy (1914)
Red Barber (1908)
(The fact that i have to share my day with Paris Hilton, just sucks)
Today is not one of your lucky days! (THERE’S A SHOCKER!)

Carly, I hope you are having a wonderful birthday. The message from your mom is wonderful as are your Plotmonkey jungle mates/friends.
What a fun connection to the birthday calculator! I’ve known for a long time that Alfred Hitchcock was born on that day (1899) many years before me!! I did not know that Don Ho, Fidel Castro & Pat Harrington Jr., among others, Annie Oakley share the day! How fun to find out all of this. I born in the year of the Dragon.
Silver & Ev I knew all those men with no hesitation. I agree Cary Grant & John Wayne are among them as is Clark Gable, Gary Cooper to name a couple! All men among men!!
Carly, I hope your year is filled with best sellers, good health and the ability to enjoy it all.

i can remember the first tine i saw Paul Newman in a movie. His eyes were so blue and mesmerizing. And I remember how handsome Tony Curtis was. I am trying to think of which stars today have that kind of charisma and handsomness and i can’t think of a one. Possibly Pierce Brosnan and Andy Garcia

ev - I have always wished I could have danced with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire! And I can remember having the hots for the Duke as a teenager. I didn’t care that he was almost as old as my dad. And Johnny Depp? Pah-leese. *chuckles* My daughter plastered her room with baseball players.
Joye, the current crop doesn’t do much for me, I fear. Nicholas Cage, maybe. Anthony LaPaglia. Oooh - Mark Harmon. But none of them really carry the torch.

Silver, I’m with you…Gene Kelly.
The man was amazing…sexy, charming, talented and in real life, an alpha man–exacting and proud. Those were the days. I did know all the men posted, though Richard Burton took me a sec. I was a total sucker for Olivier in his early days, too.
I wonder if any of the hot guys today will have this type of lasting power…that 40 years later, people will know who they are. I’m thinking Clooney will. Pierce Brosnan. Colin Firth. Definitely Alan Rickman. Denzel Washington. They have to be great actors as well as swoon-worthy, IMO.
Does anyone other than me think that Benjamin Bratt is delicious? I’m looking forward to his new series.
