The Evolution of Me
The Evolution of … Carly Phillips
No no, not from ape to man … I mean woman, but the evolution of the Carly Phillips brand. How did I start on the web? Where did I go to as I changed and grew? Where am I now? Where am I going? (Keep in mind this can also be an evolution of Carly’s hair but that goes without saying! )
I find this concept interesting and fun and luckily for geeks like me, there’s an Internet machine that lets you look back and see how things have changed. This isn’t always a good thing, for example, it’s the reason everything on the internet never ever goes away. So be careful what you post and say. For our purposes, let’s just have fun.
The first record of www.carlyphillips.com is August 16, 2000. Now 2000 wasn’t my first website, that was in 1999 so I’m not sure why we can’t find a record of that site. It may have been the same one there in 2000. I can’t recall!

So … what do we see? Writing for Harlequin Temptation – Seeking a Super Sexy Read? Was my slogan/brand. I still love those red satin sheets!

December 4, 2000
Same photo, new slogan and look:
On to For a Super-Sexy Read, catch the heat with red hot romances by Carly Phillips

October 21, 2001
A short time after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 – My name itself became its own brand within an oval. I kinda like that one!

Post Kelly Ripa, in 2002
it was decided that I should move away from pink and towards a more sedate New York Times bestselling author mass appeal blue. Not really my thing now that I look back, although I did love the site. Too bad the time capsule cuts a lot off. Those were the days of the Catch the last Chandler man slogan.

May 6, 2005
You knew it couldn’t last. Carly without pink? Naah! May 6, 2004 – another new website look! And with it came the slogan we know today: For sexy fun read Carly Phillips!

August 2006
Brand new website and the most current formation. But of course I get bored, so my hair has changed!

As you can see, I like change.
So … what were your thoughts looking at the changes? Fun, huh?

How cool that you can look back over the years and see how things changed. I really like the look of the site now..all along it was cool, but the way the pink pops off the black and the other colors in there as well, really appeals to me.
And it reinforces to a perfectionist personality, such as myself, that it doesn’t have to be perfect the first time. I can always change it if I don’t like it and through natural evoluation of a career the look will change anyway.
Cool subject, especially following Julie’s Saturday blog. Thanks for the insight and look back!!

cool topic…I am still the same, boring me. Kinda pathetic, but very stable

I love the changes over the years, and how you’ve stayed fresh and current. I think a good promoter will try to keep things new - not only is this eye-catching for new readers, it’s also fun for long-time fans because I love checking out all the changes, and seeing if I come across something new.
Each time your website reveals more and more about you and your style. Love that.

Hi Carly,
I remember your site way back when you had a blinking Christmas tree on it years ago.
I really like your use of pink.
Pink is one of my top three favorite colors.
I always like change it is what keeps me coming back to see what is different.

Hi All,
Carly, love looking at the past looks of your web site. I LOVE the look now. It’s fresh, fun and fantastic. Your logo with the heart is great.
I’m back from a wonderful trip to Potomac, Maryland where I attended the WRW writer’s retreat. I was blown away by the comaraderie of everyone there. They were so warm and welcoming to me. It was awesome! I had a fabulous editor appointment with Tracy Farrell. I met Jennifer Enderlin who is a riot and so, so nice!
Hope you all are having a wonderful day. I have some serious jet lag…
Cher, who is glad to be back swinging in the jungle

It’s always fun to look back to see how much we’ve grown or progressed. I really like the Carly
Phillips logo the best, and I love the picture of you with Buddy and Bailey.

I love the Way Back Machine. Interesting how, even as adults, we continue to evolve and change (hair changes are not just for teens!). Thanks for sharing.

Love to see all the different looks of your website. I like the older sites, but really love your pink sites best.

I enjoyed seeing the progression all in one post. The progression of hair is the most dramatic! ;-)
I also like your name in the oval with the heart. It looks classy.

I really enjoyed the look back at the evolution of your website. Seeing how things have changed can be quite eye-opening. Your current website is my favorite.

That’s so fun, Carly! I like the colors now - pink has definitely grown on me. I do kinda like the ‘05 name logo more, though the current one does fit in better with the rest of your page. I’d do a search of myself, but I never use my real name :P

Carly I’ve loved your books from the beginning. Your evolution has been wonderful to peek at, but I love your current stage. Your website is great, and your hair is even better.

Thanks for a “Wayback” look! I only remember as far back as the August 2006! I probably visited your website before but I only started exploring more after I became acquainted with the Plotmonkeys, an awesome group of women/authors.

I love pink so that appeals to me a lot! I also love purple, yellow & orange!! My closet is filled with those colors & some red also!! I enjoy seeing the changes in your hair as I’m not to adventuresome these days! I want short & easy to do!! I call it wash, comb/brush & go!!

Hi Carly thanks for the time machine. I love all your books which I have mentioned time and time again. I’ve learned so much from all of you and the site and guest blogger and since starting to write myself though I’m no where author status yet lol I have hope I do have a question for you and any of the writers on here How do you decide if you are going to write under your name or a pen name?

Janelle…are you doing okay with all of the wildfires?
Comment by katie — April 28, 2008 @ 4:36 pm
Love the hair style/color changes over the years.
And the color pink, so much nicer than the boring blue everyone else tends to head for.
I should talk- I still don’t have any back ground on Myspce.

Hey, Katie — for once the fires AREN’T near us. They are more towards Los Angeles, about 40 miles away. But, it is that time of year and I’m sure there will be fires popping up around us, too, at some point. I sure won’t miss those wildfires when we move to Oregeon!
Comment by Janelle — April 28, 2008 @ 9:50 pm
I meant Oregon. I can spell. Really. Geez.

The Wayback Machine is really a blast from the past for me!! My children used to watch
Rocky & Bullwinkle and Mr. Peabody & his machine were a favorite part of the show.
Coming back into the present: I enjoyed the tour through the past, ending up with
the “you” of today. Although I enjoyed your books of the past, I think I like your work
and hair of today the best!
