Final Anniversary Thoughts …

From Afar
It’s Spring Break and we took the kids to the Bahamas. My youngest said she always wanted to swim with the dolphins and I’m so happy she’ll get that chance. I can’t believe it’s almost May. Where does the time go? I wish I knew.

One blog reader asked the other day what state we’re all from. I’m from New York. Her question made me realize there’s much we don’t know about each other. Last week was our second anniversary and the other monkeys spoke about what Plotmonkeys means to them. I was up first and I only thought about the excerpts and giveaway so I decided to donate one more day to this topic. I won’t be around to answer, but I’ll be reading your replies!

When we started this blog, it began as an idea for joint promotion. Cut and dry. We laid out the plan: One day per author Monday – Thursday. Fridays would be contest day, the first Friday of the month corresponding to the author who has Monday and so on. If there was a fifth Friday, we’d do a joint giveaway/prize. Sundays would be the joke of the week and announce the winner. Saturdays were always a work in progress until we settled into a craft routine courtesy of mostly Julie’s hard work. One main rule. NO CONTROVERSY. Other than that, subjects were free game. Nobody envisioned it would be easy.

We couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. We fell into a routine that was so easy (except for Leslie who had Mondays, something I admit to not understanding until I took over the day. It means thinking way ahead, but I’m OK with it. My weekends are simpler than hers) it was scary. I don’t know much about other blogs but we are a seamless group. That’s not to say we don’t have our disagreements on occasion, we wouldn’t be normal if we didn’t. But the blog almost feels like it runs itself. It became not a promotional tool but a labor of love.

The reason it became a labor of love is all of you. You come every day. So much so that we wonder what’s wrong if Stacy doesn’t post bright and early. Leslie asked us the other day if Jeannie was OK b/c we hadn’t heard from her on the blog in awhile. Not ONE day later, I received a postcard from sunny Florida with a half naked man on the front – from Jeannie! All was well! Paula posts often and turns up on Myspace and Facebook! We have gotten to know all of you. THANK YOU for making our community a welcome place to be!!!

So let’s answer some questions:
1. What state or country (if not the US) do you live in?
2. How long have you been visiting Plotmonkeys? (don’t be shy or embarrassed we’re happy to have you here no matter if this is your first visit!)
3. Are you a reader, writer, or a bit of both?

  1. 1. I am a New England girl, born and bred. Though I have lived in other states (for very short spans), I always come back home to Massachusetts.
    2. I just discovered Plot Monkeys this year, so I am relatively new to it, but I love it!
    3. Both.

  2. Awww, that’s so sweet Carly. Not that I think you guys are self-aborbed (I don’t) or too busy but I never really thought, with all the people who visit your blog and your personal lives, including your writing schedules, that you had time to notice something like little ole me posting so early in the mornings LOL. I feel loved *g*

    - I live in Illinois, Chicago ‘burbs (bornd & raised in MN for 19 years)
    - I think I’ve been around from the beginning, pretty consistently (except when my computer has failed me or I’m on vacay)
    - I’m mostly a reader but I dabble in a little writing, mostly for myself. Maybe one day I’ll take that final step.

    Another addiction: Facebook…sigh…

  3. I am from Northern Michigan and have been visiting plotmonkey’s for at least a year I think. Writing is someting that i’ve wanted to do , but I haven’t tried at all. I don’t think i’m very good at it actually! So for right now, I will stick with reading anythign I can get my hands on.

  7. Good Morning Carly~

    What a very nice post.

I am from Wyoming…we have lived here for about 19 years and prior to that we were in Colorado. I am very new to the group…only about three weeks. I love visiting everyday and have you are now one of my daily stops! I am a reader only…I have no talent and am so very impressed by those of you that do have the ability to not only tell a story but to pull a whole world of readers into your work.

    Enjoy your vacation!

I have been coming to Plotmonkeys for quite some time now, but its early and i havent had caffeine yet so cant think how long..lol..
Its usually one of my first internet stops each day to see whats going on even if i dont post alot.. thanks to each of you for having such a fun blog that isnt negative.. theres enough of that in the world..

  9. I am from Troy, NY (near Albany) although I am originally from farther upstate in Syracuse.
I have been coming here since just a couple of months into the blog. At least more than a year. And I stop in daily.
I am a reader. I have no talent and no aspirations to be a writer. Daughter on the other hand stops by every Saturday to check out what is in the helpful column of the day. I have enough problems writing Christmas cards.
I poked Carly on Facebook the other day. And I have a myspace too, but under another name.
Now I have to go poke Stacy.

  10. I’ve lived in some part of TN almost my whole life. I currently live in Nashville. I think I found the plotmonkey site about 1 1/2 years ago, so I missed some of the first few months. I currently am only a reader, but have dreams of being both. Hope you have a great vacation Carly.

  13. Great idea for a Monday post. It’s so good to learn a bit about everyone you see here.

I live in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts - born and raised here. I love New England and the changing seasons. If you don’t like the weather one day, just wait a minute and it’ll change.

I’ve been around since the beginning of the Plotmonkeys and I’ve enjoyed spending time with all of you.

I’m a reader. I’ll leave the writing to the pros.

Enjoy the Bahamas, Carly and family! Oh Carly, I loved the video clip for HOT PROPERTY! Can’t wait to read it!

  16. I live in Colorado but was born and raised in a very small town in Georgia. I’ve lived in beautiful Colorado for 21 years now and am so happy I can’t stand myself.

I’ve been visiting the plotmonkeys since July of last year. Plotmonkeys starts my day off.

I am a writer and a voracious reader of nearly anything I can get my hands on.

Thank you for the last nine months and counting…

  17. I’ve lived in South Florida (1/2 way between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale) for 30 years but have lived in Tucson, AZ, Gainesville, FL, the Bahamas (Freeport), Boulder, CO and was born in PA on the north branch of the Susquehanna. When my father told us we were moving to the Bahamas (I was in 6th grade) we all went “where?”

I’ve been visiting the Plotmonkeys for… It seems like more than 2 years so it must be close to when y’all started it. Anyway, it’s fun to find out where everybody is from and what their lives are like.

  24. Hope you have a fantastic time on your vacation. Hubby and I went to Paradise Island a few years ago and it was so beautiful! I’d love to go back….soon! :giggle:

I was born in Ohio, lived in Tucson for a while (really consider it more home than Ohio) and now live in coastal NC.

I think I’ve been here pretty much from the beginning and I love starting my day off here in the jungle!

I’m an avid reader, thanks to Janelle’s Wilde men who got me hooked on romance, and am also an aspiring writer.

Thanks for creating the jungle and for allowing me to visit on a daily basis. This last year was really tough, and you wouldn’t believe the private e-mail messages I got from fellow jungle bunnies constantly sending me support and prayers. You ladies have built a truly special community… Thank you!!

  25. I live in Tampa, FL but I’m originally from Long Island’s (NY) south shore.

I’ve been reading, mostly lurking, for over a year, since I recall last year’s anniversary celebration. I even won a giveaway recently from Janelle, which was great because I’d had a chance to read Leslie and Carly. So now I have to make a point of reading Julie. Although you gals are great writers, I guess what I love most is the camaraderie of your blog community, and the great Saturday craft info.

I’m an avid reader and a writer, trying my hand at inspirational romance.

I live in Staten Island, NY and have lived here my whole life.

I am a bookaholic, and not ashamed to admit it…lol I also enjoy writing, would like to call myself an aspiring author but I’m sort of in a writing rut right now….Jodie has been trying to kick my butt into shape…I mean motivate me…lol (thanks Jodie!) I’m a native of Houston, TX of some seventy-one years. I’ve been hanging around the
Jungle for at least six months and I’ve enjoyed every minute! My closest connection
to the writing field dates some years back when I wrote a news column for an area
newspaper. That’s nowhere in the same ball park as you ladies, but I enjoyed the
interaction with the people of our area! May I again extend my best wishes to you
    all for a “Happy Anniversary!!

I live in Peabody, MA (about 1/2 hr North of Boston, MA). My friend Carolyn A. (see comment #13 above) first told me about this blog when it was about one month old. I start my day off here every day!! I am most definetely a reader. I’ll leave the writing to the four of you and your talented friends. I’m happy to go out a buy your books - I look at it as a Win - Win situation for all of us that way!

  43. Um, Patricia W…why haven’t you joined TARA? (Tampa Area Romance Authors.) We have several published Inspirational authors in our chapter and well, it totally rocks. I didn’t know you were in Tampa!

I’m Tampa born and raised. (Just got back from a field trip to our “old town” of Ybor City…had a great conversation with the museum docent…who, of course, knows my aunt. I can’t go anywhere without someone knowing someone in my family!)

And all you self-proclaimed “plain and humble” readers…if not for you, none of the writers would have a reason to write! We think you’re all fabulous!!!

    Comment by Julie Leto — April 21, 2008 @ 2:04 pm

  44. Tina M - Just come hang out with us some night. You don’t have to write, several people who join us are readers and not writers…they’re our “cheer-readers” *v* You’d have a good time and maybe, just maybe, get re-motivated!

  59. Carly, great blog questions today…I was curious about people too…didn’t think it would be right to ask here though, but since you opened it up, I don’t feel awkward now…I am all over the place…I know…how else can I keep track of people…I love coming here each day…you guys are life savers…you know that?

    1. What state or country (if not the US) do you live in?

Well, I was born on 29 August, 1974 on the island of Jamaica, where I lived until I was 11 years old. When I came to the US, I lived in first Brooklyn, NY; then Queens, Long Island and finally back to Brooklyn, where my mom, sister and one of my brothers still live…I moved to RI, where I lived for about 7 years and currently I live in Connecticut…year number 8…

    2. How long have you been visiting Plotmonkeys? (don’t be shy or embarrassed we’re happy to have you here no matter if this is your first visit!)

I have been here since last summer, so my first year anniversary is coming up in August…I just missed your bday last year…it feels like I have been here a lot longer though…

    3. Are you a reader, writer, or a bit of both?

I am primarily a reader, but I am dabbling in the writing area; romance novels? Not sure I am up to that yet…not proficient enough in writing those wonderful sex scenes you guys write…lol…I write poetry and short stories mainly…

I have a question for you wonderful

What made you guys decide to switch careers and write romance novels?

Okay, duty calls, so I swing back in later on…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  60. I am a New Yorker, have lived in the City, the Metro area, Western NY and Upstate, but I’m in Berlin (DE) for a few years now and enjoying myself

I”ve been reading PlotMonkeys for a few months, I think I found my way here from Diana Peterfreund’s blog one day.

I am a reader, reader, reader. (I’m a bit OCD about reading, if you can tell…

  61. I’m a Florida girl born and raised. The four of you have been on the top of my book list before the site. The site was an extra bonus for me. And I still think is cool that my sister was in Julie’s english class when she taught high school……

  64. Hi, I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

I have been logging on to plotmonkeys for almost two years. I was away at my brothers a couple of months ago and he didn’t have internet at the time. I was so happy to get home and log on to see what you guys were up to.

I am an avid reader. My boys have gone out on their own and when my Husband is out of town, I don’t get lonely when there are books around.

Cheers!! and Congrats for two great years, and hopefully many more.

  65. I’m from western Pennsylvania (love my Pittsburgh sports teams).
I’ve been visiting the PlotMonkeys for about a year now.
I’m a voracious reader. I usually have 3 books going at the same time, one in my bedroom, one in the kitchen and one in the car. (I spend alot of time in the car, taxiing my 4 kids to various activities.)
Cogratulations again on your anniversary. Let’s hope for many more years!

  66. I live just south of Richmond, Virginia and I have been coming here for a little over a year. I read just about anything I can get my hands on but my favorites, of course, are anything written by the “Monkeys”.
Hope you have a great time, Carly!

  68. Wow, what a diverse group.
    1. I live in Massachusetts and pretty much have all my life, except when I went to college in Vermont. Go New England!
    2. I’ve been visiting here for 3-4 months, I think. I found out about this site through Carly’s website. I’ve been a fan of hers forever, and have been discovering the other authors on here!
    3. I am an avid, devoted reader and a frustrated writer. I don’t have the time I’d like to dedicate to writing right now because I have two very busy young children, sigh

  69. Hi again, G I am reading Diana Peterfreund’s Secret Society Girl right now, then I will read the next one after. Georganna, I like you…I read upwards of 4 books at a time; different genres so that I don’t get confused.

I discovered the jungle through Jules’ link. I am so glad that I picked her book up when I did or I would have missed out a getting to such wonderful new writers and meet such interesting people.

I love the jungle…I plugged it as often as I can…it is so comfortable here, and I feel like I really know you guys…it is always my first stop before I leave for work…I check out what the topic is then log on again later, after I did some work…I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t visit the jungle regularly…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

I’m another “just a reader” from sometimes sunny CA, and have been visiting Plotmonkeys most days for a little over a year now. I always enjoy your posts and your books!

Right now I’m in Australia but as of May 1 we’ll be back in the States in NJ

    2. How long have you been visiting Plotmonkeys? (don’t be shy or embarrassed we’re happy to have you here no matter if this is your first visit!)
Visited off and on until I realized I could get it sent to my google reader and not miss a day.

    3. Are you a reader, writer, or a bit of both?
    I’m a reader.

You guys are awesome. Love reading your posts.

  78. I live in Colorado, suburb of Denver. I’ve always lived here and have no intention of ever leaving. I’m sure I’d miss the mountains too much.

I started coming here about 4 weeks ago when Julie was posting her excerpts. Now I only wish I’d known about it before then.

I’m definitely an avid reader. I am running out of places to stash my books. I’ve thought about writing, but I’ve always been too busy with studying to do much about it.

  79. I lived in Wisconsin for 35 years, but now call Stuart, FL home. (we do spend our summers in Wisconsin )

I ‘ve visited this website for almost 2 years!! I started out with Carly & Janelle’s books but now purchase all 4!!. I used to visit daily but, I started a job around the 1st of the year and when my job starts at 7, I have a hard time getting on, especially with our SLOW dial up connection.

I’m an avid reader that has no desire to write. NO IMAGINATION!!

  80. I live in Georgia just 40 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida.

I have been visiting the plotmonkeys from I believe the very first week.
I think I made it the first day. I can’t remember.

I am a BIG time reader.
I was reading Carly and Janelle and Julie before the plotmonkeys came together and then I found out about Leslie and have added her to the mix.
I am so glad you girls put this place together.

  83. Wow, I’m so late to this. I let my Google Reader build up way too high, sigh.

    But to answer the questions:

    1. What state or country (if not the US) do you live in?
I live in MA, south of Boston.
    2. How long have you been visiting Plotmonkeys?
I’ve been on and off for a while. I think I found the blog about a year ago. I very rarely comment, as I don’t have much spare time.
    3. Are you a reader, writer, or a bit of both?
I’m a bit of both, lol. I’m currently 60% through my first book.
