Jelly Beans, Cream Eggs, and Marshmallow Peeps — OH MY!
As I was walking through Target this past week, I strolled down the aisle with all the Easter candy and was amazed by just how much of a variety there was of chocolate, jelly beans, and other Spring candies.
A lot of the candy was seasonal and just for the upcoming Easter holiday, which means it’s only made once a year. And some of those candies are my absolute favorites, and knowing that I can only get it once a year makes it very difficult to pass up! I’m not talking about the normal Nestle and Hershey candies all dressed up in Spring/Easter packaging that you can get any other time of the year. No, I’m talking about Cadbury Creme Eggs, Marshmallow Peeps that are shaped like cute little bunnies or chicks, Russell Stover Raspberry Cream eggs that are to die for (there are also coconut cream, maple cream, and vanilla cream), Speckled Robins Eggs, and many others. Of course, knowing that in less than a week all these seasonal items will be forever gone, a few did go into my basket – not for my girls, but for ME.
I’m not a big jelly bean fan, but I was amazed by just how many varieties of jelly beans there were on the shelves. Traditional jelly beans, Starburst jelly beans, Hot Tamale spice flavored jelly beans, Lifesavor jelly beans, Mike ‘n Ike jelly beans, and Hawaiian Punch jelly bean. It was truly unbelievable! Then again, I came across an article recently that stated that Americans consume 16 BILLION jelly beans at Easter, and if they were lined end to end, they would circle the globe nearly three times! That’s a whole lot of jelly beans!
Marshmallow Peeps really aren’t my thing, either, but they sure are cute. And, they’re a popular item with other kids (big and small!) out there. Last Easter, more than 700 million Marshmallow Peeps were consumed worldwide! And surprisingly, they’ve been around since 1953!
Then there’s the ever popular Cadbury Creme Eggs, which I find very hard to resist.
This little egg has a thick milk chocolate shell with a white and yellow fondant filling designed to resemble the yolk and albumen of an egg. What a great gimmick – and it tastes good, too! Over the years Cadbury has come out with other creme eggs – such as caramel eggs, chocolate creme eggs, little bite-sized creme eggs that come in a cute dozen, and the delicious orange creme egg that tastes like the best of orange and chocolate together. Oh, YUM!
Now let’s talk about my personal favorite Easter candy: Russell Stover Raspberry Cream eggs. Every year I wait impatiently for these delicious cream
eggs to hit the store shelves around Easter time. I absolutely love them. Other than orange and chocolate, I have to say that raspberry and chocolate is my second favorite candy combination. The raspberry cream inside of this chocolate egg is whipped into a light, soft “fluff” of cream that almost melts on your tongue. ::sigh::
I think I’ll go raid my secret stash for one of those Raspberry Cream eggs right now.
So, do you have any favorite Spring/Easter candies that you look forward to every year? If so, what are they?

Nothing that I love a lot, but I do like to get my share of jelly beans, and a peep or two (preferrably the purple ones just cuz I love the color). The marshmellow eggs are good, especially the Fannie Mae ones, which are hard to find, almost non-existent.
Janelle, I’m going to have to try those raspberry cream eggs. I love raspberry, and together with the chocolate - yummo.

I love the Cadbury Caramel Eggs. I stock the freezer with them. They freeze very well. My mom loves the original ones and found my secret stash when she was visiting- didn’t know you could freeze them! Now she has a bunch in hers.
I love buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans (Jelly Belly, of course!). I take them to the movies instead of getting their popcorn- no greasy hands. We sell them at the bookstore, so I always have a fresh supply!

I love the Cadbury cream eggs. I usually buy a ton of them.

I love the Robin eggs and Cadburry mini eggs. Jelly Belly also puts out the kids mix in Target only at Easter. I always buy a couple of bags and try to make them last. I still have to get some Robin eggs for Easter, and I might have to pick up one of those raspberry creme eggs too.

I don’t really have a favorite spring only candy. My favorite candy is available year round, peanut M&Ms followed by Hershey kisses. They do get spring pastel colors for the season though.

Cadbury Creme Eggs. They’re so sweet they make my teeth hurt, followed by an immediate sugar coma. But damn they’re good!

Cadbury Creme Eggs. My mom used to as a joke (I love them so much), get them at Costco and give me the WHOLE thing….I think I have o.d.ed on them over the years because they just don’t appeal to me this year….

I didn’t know you could freeze the Cadbury eggs! I might have to try that. I love frozen chocolate! Does the inside goo freeze, too?

Robin eggs and Cadbury mini eggs!

Hi all!
I personally love the robin’s eggs! It never seems like Easter or Spring until they come out and end up in the candy dish!
I do love Jelly Beans! In high school, my closest circle of friends nicknamed me “Jellybean” because the ONLY thing I ate for a week was jelly beans. I love em! Now that I am older and have a more distinguished palette, I prefer Jelly Belly beans! Although I do not eat Bertie Botts. I have to draw the line somewhere! I think I feel a sugar rush coming on!
Happy Easter, everybody! I hope the Easter bunny is good to you all!

I’ve never tried an original Cadbury Creme Egg, but after hearing how great they are, I’ll have to pick one up when I get the Raspberry creme egg.

My favorite’s are See’s! The best! I do also like the Cadbury Creme Eggs but seldom buy them. My girls are grown & gone, the oldest grandson is turning 19 today & doesn’t believe in the Easter bunny!!!!
However I threw a few of See’s milk chocolate Easter eggs (the little ones) in his birthday bag! I’ve never seen the Russell Stover Raspberry Chocolate eggs but they sound yummy. When I was shopping yesterday I restricted myself to the stop at See’s and did not buy any other goodies, don’t need them!! In the past I have sent my younger grandchildren some Easter candy but now that they are 9 & 12 I just sent a card. Their Mom & Dad will make sure they get some kind of Easter treat.

Hey Janelle and jungle friends…
All this talk of sweets makes me want to go out and buy some…NOW…I am going to try and be good though…don’t know how long I will be able to hold out though…

I’ve never had the Russell Stover egg before but they put something similar in my Valentine’s Day candy. When I head past the RS factory this Saturday I might stop in and see what they’ve got. I love Cadbury cream eggs!!!!

I love the Reese’s peanut butter eggs. I don’t like the taste of Peeps, but I love to buy them because they’re so cute and colorful.

I love the Peeps, though I don’t get to eat that many! Have you seen the turquoise-colored
cows! They are hilarious!!!

I love Jelly Belly jelly beans, Cadbury caramel eggs, Reeses peanut butter eggs, robin eggs, but my favorite are Russel Stover little bird nests which are dark chocolate & coconut and there are a few jelly beans inside…YUM!
But this year I wont be eating any of it because I’m on a diet
which I’m not enjoying one bit
I have lost 12 lbs but its taking a long time to come off and I’m tired of exercising…can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can start walking again
I know I’m babbling. Hope everyone enjoys their favorite Easter treats.

We need some Easter icons
I like the Reese’s peanut butter eggs and this year I have been having a hard time finding the MOUNDS shaped like an egg.
I did get some in Walgreens and when I went back there was no more

For me, it’s the solid chocolate Hershey eggs and the LifeSaver jelly beans.
Yum!

My favorite Easter candy would have to be the Cadbury Robin eggs. They have a hard crunchy shell with chocolate center. They really do look like robin eggs…
Comment by Jayna — March 20, 2008 @ 9:39 pm
Peeps! But they have to be opened and left out to get a little hard/crusty vs. gooey.
