  3. I think after reading yesterday’s excerpt, it just might be Amy. I love stories with quirky family members. And hers seem to be right up there. They remind me of mine, so I guess I can sympathize with them and identify.

    Off to work!

  4. The chandler boys!!!!!!! All of them were great. I like all the characters but those boys by far are my favorite. Happy Friday!

  6. Here I am, an avid historical romance reader, hanging my head in shame because I haven’t read any of the Hot Zone books. But, count me in to win this book since I am beginning to branch out to the contemps and I think I’ll be adding Carly’s books to my list of books-to-buy.

  14. Please count me in. I love Uncle Yank, but I think Micki is my favorite character. She just makes me think we could be friends. Can’t wait for Hot Property!!!

    Comment by Liza — March 7, 2008 @ 9:52 am

  15. Morning! hmmmmm favorite…..I like them all, but gotta go with Uncle Yank!

    Have a great day everyone.

    Comment by Laura J — March 7, 2008 @ 9:53 am

  16. Micki is my favorite character, because I identify with her need to be seen as a woman and not just one of the guys. I was raised by my dad, so I learned about cars, sports, and rock music. This is cool to guys, but it tends to make them think of you as a buddy instead of a woman they could love.

    Comment by Shannon Upright — March 7, 2008 @ 10:01 am

  17. Sophie, because she reminds me of my best friend to a T!!!!

    Comment by Peggy — March 7, 2008 @ 10:07 am

  18. Carly, you asked for it…Count me in for this prize okay…now, my story about why I like my fav character is kinda long, but I am going to share it anyway…

My favorite Hot Zone character is Michelle (Micki) Jordan. Micki’s my fav character because she is me, sans the man of my dreams okay. Like her, when I was young, I was a bit of a tomboy; always running around with the boys and being treated like one of them, so it was difficult for me to transition from being just one of the boys to being a “girl” they would notice and like as one. Unloke Micki, being a tomboy wasn’t a trait I “fell” into, let’s say, but rather one of a defense mechanism. Remember the phrase, “Know thine enemy” (I might have changed it a littl)? Life experience taught me at a very young age that women were nothing but prey to the predatory males of the species; cousins, uncles, brothers, fathers, grandfathers. It was not a very good lesson for an open, trustworthy and naive young girl to learn. So being a tomboy became my armor of choice, which stayed with me throughout my early years until the 10th grade. That’s wehn I fell hard for this bball player in my school. I held my feelings in for a while, asked questions about him without showing too much emotion, and whenever he was around, my heart and my stomach often switched places. I hd to figure out how to get him to notice me, and like Micki, I sought advice, not from a sister like Sophie, but rather from my best friend. Slowly my outer appearance changed; I started to wear make-up, doing my nails, styling my hair (loved ponytails), wearing skirts, dresses and shoes that were not sneakers. Frankly, I stopped dressing like a bum….lol…but I didn’t know how to shed the armor on the inside. Despite these outward changes, I feared being rejected and being ridiculed by my peers for trying to be a “girl.” At first, I wasn’t taken seriously, yep kids would point and laugh (only the adults really said anything positive, most of them were shocked to see me dressed like that); I was like wallpaper to many of the guys in my school for a long time, then one day HE saw me. I just about passed out from lack of oxygen. It took some time, I didn’t want to be like any of the other girls he went out with, he used ‘em and left ‘em, but once I got to know him, I realized that one his reputation as a lothario was fictitious and just for show. We ended up together for 8 wonderful years; throughout high school and college. By the end of my senior year in college, he pushed me away, which tore my heart out. He played on my sympathy (calling to say how much he missed me and he wanted me to come home, then he got jealous questioning if I was seeing anyone at school, then he said I shouldn’t have gone to college so far from him: left NYC and went to school in RI). He played on my feelings for him and tried to make me feel guilty for being so far away, I did feel guilty for being so far away you know. One day, he called to let me know that he couldn’t be with me any more and that he found someone else and my heart stopped. That was the end of my great love affair. After this experience, I locked my heart away and threw away the key. I told myself that I didn’t need any man. I was afraid of being hurt like that again; I guess I have a bit of Annabelle (Annie) in me too. So I reverted back to wearing my armor of choice; being one of the boys and playing the role of wallpaper. No wonder I am still alone…fear is a very powerful emotion, it definitely let you lose out on alot of things; but knowing that doesn’t cause me to release it…story for another time…

See Carly, I told you it was long…lol…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  19. I love all of the characters (I am being SO diplomatic)….do I have to pick one? If I did, I’d have to pick all of the ladies…they are all so strong, but family is so important to them. They take care of their uncle and put him in his place.

    Comment by katie — March 7, 2008 @ 10:24 am

    Comment by Gigi — March 7, 2008 @ 10:43 am

  29. I really loved Micki from Hot Number. In college, I always felt like the least “girly” of my group of friends. Slowly, I made a change, with their help and became a much more confident person. I already had the man, now my husband, but I really connected to Micki when I read that book!

    Comment by Jessica M — March 7, 2008 @ 11:38 am

  37. Hi Carly -whoo for the new release! My favorite hot zone hero is Brandon Vaughn - I love the heroes always, but he was so fun to read- and an ex football player!

    Comment by limecello — March 7, 2008 @ 12:13 pm

    Comment by Michele — March 7, 2008 @ 12:30 pm

  42. I love all of your books it is so hard to pick just 1 character. The sisters are awesome but if I have to pick… Sophie Jordan. I just loved how she was finally able to let loose and get some needed Sophie attention!

    Comment by Regina Bassett — March 7, 2008 @ 12:42 pm

  43. My favorite is Brandon, just because he was my first Hot Zone guy. I’m loyal like that.

    Comment by Jane — March 7, 2008 @ 12:52 pm

  44. Good Morning and Happy Friday.

Along with each sister’s story, I enjoyed the antics of Lola and Uncle Yank. They remind me of so many couples and the trials and tribulations of a relationship.

    Comment by Ardie — March 7, 2008 @ 12:54 pm

  45. Uncle Yank is my favorite character. He is such a great man to have raised three wonderful girls. Without Uncle Yank there would be no story to write, he is the glue that held the family together. I also really loved the back story of his relationship with Lola (who I also adore). I am truly excited about reading this book! The series has been wonderful so far! I am nearly 4 months pregnant and would love the advanced reading copy to relax with during the down time before my little one gets here!!

    Comment by Melissa Ives — March 7, 2008 @ 12:56 pm

    Comment by Kelly H — March 7, 2008 @ 1:02 pm

  48. My favorite Hot Zone character is Annabelle. Even though I am a total baseball fan her story resonated the most with me. Her strengths and even her vulnerabilities made her lovable and easy to root for!

    Comment by Jamie — March 7, 2008 @ 1:06 pm

  49. I think that all of the characters are great but I would have to go with Uncle Yank. I love how he cares for his neices and how stubborn he can be…

    Comment by Jodi — March 7, 2008 @ 1:14 pm

  50. I like Sophie because she is so calm and sexy. I wish I could be more like her.

    Comment by Leslie Thompson — March 7, 2008 @ 1:17 pm

    Comment by Katie B. — March 7, 2008 @ 1:28 pm

  55. My favorite character? Yank! Who wouldn’t/couldn’t love a man that has a heart big enough to take and and raise those girls. Lola saw his cgarm from the beginning.

    Comment by Kristen Wick — March 7, 2008 @ 1:32 pm

  56. I would pick Uncle Yank for his quirky lovable character, Riley for being so damn sexy and Annabelle because she is so much like my sister.

    Comment by Dena — March 7, 2008 @ 1:52 pm

  57. Love the expert Yesterday! I am ready for theis book to be out! Have a great weekend!

    Comment by Christina — March 7, 2008 @ 1:57 pm

  58. Well, if I don’t count all the sexy characters I would say Uncle Yank.. Just love him…..
    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Comment by Barbara-Jo — March 7, 2008 @ 1:57 pm

  59. Have I mentioned my great love of ARCs and my special shelf on my bookshelf just for those?

Favorites? It’s always the men. Men men men

    Comment by Jaci Burton — March 7, 2008 @ 2:04 pm

  60. I love all the books and characters from the Hot Zone, but if I have to pick one character, it would be Micki. She reminds me a little of myself. I was a huge tomboy growing up. I didn’t care about makeup and fancy clothes. Even now as a mother of 2 girls (and 2 boys), I find it hard to be “girlie” with them.
Loved the excerpt yesterday. I think I’ll re-read the first 3 books in anticipation of ‘Hot Property’. Of course, if I were to win the ARC…..

    Comment by Georganna — March 7, 2008 @ 2:08 pm

  61. I’m dying for this weeks prize, so I’m not above begging…Pleeeeeease pick me!!

I love all the characters of the Hot Zone but I think Rose and Darla are a hoot! They keep the story fun.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

    Comment by Tina Martinesi — March 7, 2008 @ 2:16 pm

  62. Annabelle Jordan is my favorite–partly because she was the first one that I got attached to in the first book and partly because I identify with her on many levels. So glad that you are adding a book to this series!!

    Comment by Rachel Stafford — March 7, 2008 @ 2:17 pm

  82. Hello Plotmonkeys and Jungle Jabbers,

    I’d love an ARC.

I found out today my right ankle is fractured so I see an orthopedic surgeon next Tuesday to figure out how to treat it. My doctor gave me a new scrip to hopefully squash this infection I’ve been fighting for the past week. One things for sure, I never do things half way.

    Comment by Cher — March 7, 2008 @ 5:14 pm

  83. I liked Riley Nash the best. He was in the first book of this series that I read.

    Comment by JOYE — March 7, 2008 @ 5:31 pm

  84. My favorite is Micki. I love hero’s that are into sports. It’s my favorite. love how she transforms herself. That was my favorite book of all 3.

    Comment by Katie — March 7, 2008 @ 5:44 pm

  85. While I love the sisters and Uncle Yank, I would have to say my favorite character is Lola. She is a very smart, dedicated person and she stands by those she loves. She is not afraid to speak her mind and will fight when needed. The fact that she stood up to Uncle Yank and didn’t just give in says a lot about her character. She set aside her life and her love for Yank to raise the girls. Not many people would do that. There needs to be more people like her in the world.

    Comment by Jackie — March 7, 2008 @ 6:26 pm

  86. While I have enjoyed all of the characters in the series, my favorite would have to be Lola. She’s spunky and smart and dedicated… and the list goes on. But the one thing that makes her my favorite is her LOVE… her love for Yank and for the girls! She knew a good thing when it was right in front of her and she didn’t let that get away! I think that is AMAZING! If only others were like that.

Well, take care and congratulations on the new book!! May it be that I win a copy or that I get to buy it… I soooo can’t wait to read it.

    *smooch*

  99. Hmmmm . . . it is hard to pick one character. I love Uncle Yank but then again I love all the characters. I can’t wait for Hot Property to be released.
