The start of the week . . .

Janelle Icon

I switched days with Carly this week because she’s got a lot going on today — mainly, taking Buddy in for surgery to have some lumps removed. So, big hugs to Carly and lots of Milk Bones for Buddy when he’s feeling better. Carly, let us know how he’s doing!

I don’t have a specific topic in mind for today, though I have been thinking about our unpredictable California weather this year. One day it’s in the 90’s, and the next it’s cold and drizzly. A few weeks ago, it even SNOWED where I live! Talk about bizzarre! I was driving my youngest daughter to school while snow flurrys were hitting the windshield! We were both stunned and amazed. A few days after that and I had to run the air conditioner because of how hot it was! Talk about extreme changes in the weather!

I have to say, I like it when it’s cool or cold the most. I don’t think I’d want to be in snow for days, but Autumn weather is my favorite — the kind where you walk outside and it’s crisp and cool. I’m not a fan of the heat and summer — maybe because it’s so HOT here in California during the summer! But give me a nice Fall day and I’m happy. Lucky for me, there’s plenty of cool weather in Oregon

So, what’s your favorite season — Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring? And why?

  1. 90 degrees almost sounds like heaven right now. We had a heat wave at 50 degrees yesterday, and now more snow is on its way.

I love spring the best, when everything comes alive, the lilacs are in bloom, the grass is a vibrant green, it’s just so pretty and new and wonderful, and not too hot yet. Don’t get me wrong, fall is very pretty, but it’s too close to winter so it always makes me a little depressed. But spring makes me happy, and carefree, and grateful for sandals!

  2. Spring and Autumn are my favs. Especially here in NY where the colors are just amazing. I even like winter and summer, although I get tired of the extreme cold/heat.

A few weeks ago, I found my hyacinths and daffodils peeping out of the ground. Right now they are covered with snow, which is good since there is ice predicted for today. That will protect them. According to my mailman, mine are always the first ones, on his route, to bloom. They are well protected.

Today I am going to go to the garden stores around and start my spring planting planning. I have to get all the building of stuff done before the 31st, but Heather can do the unloading and filling of dirt. And the other back breaking prep needed before planting.

Buddy- my grandpuppy gets them all the time and the vet said they are nothing to worry about. You will be just fine. However, milk it for all it’s worth!!

  3. Summer is my favorite. The hotter the better. I hate cold, snow, ice and two many clothes. Flip flops and tank tops are the best things ever.

  4. Spring is my favorite season. I love seeing everything come back to life. A local park has a beautiful flower field that blooms every spring. I love to go and get pictures of my daughter with all the pretty blooms.

I like autumn too but spring will always be my favorite.

I hope everyone has a great day and Buddy comes through with flying colors.

  5. My fav season is FALL b/c I love the cool temps, the change of leaves etc.

UPDATE: I took Buddy in this morning. He is having two cysts removed and a teeth cleaning, and while he is under, they’ll get urine for the protocal testing.
As for Bailey, I told the vet about my housebreaking issues and she looked at her chart and said let’s get a urine and fecal to be sure. So to make life easier for me (it’s all relative) I’m bringing her back at 10:40 for an appt rather than bring her late this afternoon when I have to pick up Buddy and juggle a sedated dog with an active one. So three vet trips today. That said, Bailey has been carrying on with Buddy gone. And I took her out to get a urine myself and each time I put something under her to catch it when she squatted, she stopped. So it’s going to have to be the vet’s job.

Janelle, thanks for blogging for me today!

  6. I love both Spring and Fall, but my allergies really don’t like either. You don’t really have to worry about wearing a coat all the time and in TN you can even leave the windows open and not have to run either the a/c or the heat. Of course, doing either just makes my allergies worse, but it is worth it to smell the fresh air. We are being teased with spring weather today, but they are calling for snow late tomorrow.

Hope everything goes great for both Buddy and Bailey. My dad’s dog has to have cyst removed pretty often and so far they have just been fatty cyst.

  7. Gee, sounds like fun and games at your house Carly, hope everything turns out all right for all of you!

Fall is my very favorite time of year. I love the cooler - but not cold - weather and the sky always seems to be a crisper, brighter blue.

We had snow flurries here on Wed. too and it was hilarious. Son #1 turned 21 on Wed - officially midnight - so when we picked him up for lunch that day he was still drunk from the night before. As we drove down the road and the snow flurries started hitting the windshield it totally freaked him out - it was 47 degress I’m not really sure how it was snowing - but the look on his face was priceless!

But it’s going to be 70 today and that is a-okay with me!!! Hope it’s a great day for everyone!

  8. I’m with Patty, I like summer the best. After a week of nothing but snow, freezing rain, snow, freezing rain, I’m SICK and tired of winter. I can’t stand anymore, but let’s all cheer, they are predicting freezing rain for tomorrow. I can’t wait for April 3rd to roll around because that is when I fly to Naples, Fl for 10 blissful days of sun on the Gulf of Mexico. Summer is also a great time for me to work out in my yard and baby my roses. I just love a hot summer day with a cold glass of iced tea, or sweet tea as those in the south know it by.

Good luck with the dogs Carly, hope everything works out OK.

Have a good day and take care all!!!

  9. Hi guys,

I sure have missed chatting with all of you the last few days but me, my husband and daughter have been incredibly sick. I can’t remember feeling that bad–ever. I was beginning to think that we would never feel better again.

Favorite season: beginning of spring, fall then winter.

Oy! I need to lie down again…

    Talk to you guys tomorrow,

    Cher

  10. Bring on the heat. I’m a summer girl. The hotter the better. That’s why I love living in Nevada.

  11. I’m with Ev. I love autumn in NY. The colors of the trees are so beautiful.

  12. Hi Janelle and jungle friends…

Carly, good luck today with Buddy, give him lots of kisses and hugs from me…

My favorite season is Summer…give me the heat any day…I think that being born in the Caribbean really spoiled me for cold months/seasons…Winter isn’t that bad if is just snows around Christmas and New Years…then, the snow needs to go and the temp needs to move up to about 75…well, I prefer 80, but I am willing to compromise…The thing I like about Autumn is the changing of the leaves…I find that nature is at its best at this time of year…Spring is okay, but the rain can stay away…but then again, if it does there won’t be flowers for May….

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  13. Carly, I hope Buddy comes through his surgery okay & that Bailey is okay also. Three trips to the vet in one day–sounds like an extra busy day.
What a good topic here in the last weeks of winter! Fall is my favorite time of year, there is just something in the air, the beautiful colors, warm days, cool nights and where I am they are picking grapes & the crush is starting there is a smell in the air that defies description, I love it all! Now, I also like Spring as where I am it is already starting, daffodils are blooming, everything is lush & green, trees are starting to leaf out, some of the flowering trees are blooming, it is lovely & today our weather will hit about 70 maybe a degree or two warmer! What’s not to like!! I do not like the heat, no thank you! Anything over 80 -85 is just to much. Our winters are mild so I can’t complain to much but we did have quite a bit of cold for here this winter, nothing however like many of you get.
    For Buddy & Bailey!!

  14. Giving lots of “Woofs’ to Buddy…get better!

My favorite season is Fall….even though I love the summer (it’s really my favorite season, but it gets too hot here, I think it is the weird Gorge weather)….the kids are back in school! LOL! I don’t like the fall Gorge winds, though…

  15. Janelle, I’m with you–autumn, definitely. I dislike really hot or cold weather, so that rules out summer and winter And spring is still sometimes pretty wet, which I’m not crazy about either… So lovely, sometimes crisp fall weather it is!

  16. Janelle, I agree with you on the cool, crisp Autumn days! Here in Houston, some of us oldtimers
still celebrate what we would call our “Open the Windows” Day. It is the first day in the fall when
it is cool enough to turn off the A/C and just open all the windows in the house!! Of course, it also
has to be a day when you are going to be home so you can enjoy the change of seasons!
P.S, Yesterday we had the A/C going and the temperature was in the 70s, today no A/C, and
the temperatures are falling. It is going down to 36 tonight with temps in the high 40s tomorrow!
At least, it is not August with our usual 100 degrss days!!

  18. I am without a doubt a “fall” girl. I LOVE it, everything about it. The colors here in New England, apple picking, Halloween and Thanksgiving…and the fact that during fall my anticipation is building for mastree: :santawhat:

Not to mention I HATE summer. The heat kills me, seriously makes me sick. Throwing up sick. Okay that may have been TMI. LOL!

  19. I bought lots of seeds today so that I can start getting things ready for outside planting!! I can’t wait. I have spent all day planning what is going where (like it won’t change)!

  20. I have two favorites—Spring and Autumn. Spring is the renewal of garden time and Autumn is time to put the garden to bed until spring.

    Comment by Estella — March 3, 2008 @ 5:53 pm

  21. You know, I’ve always been the biggest fan of Autumn. I love apple picking, hay rides, pumpkin patches, and those crisp October days with bright blue skies and gorgeous foliage.

But lately I find myself drawn more to Spring. Perhaps it is the rebirth of nature, or just getting out of the cold, cold and snowy doldrums here in Boston, but there’s something so special and refreshing about Spring.

    So, I guess it’s a toss-up for me. :-)

  22. It was 11 below zero when we woke up this morning. 50 degrees would be awesome. I love summer and hope its here soon.

  23. Thanks for all the comments! Buddy is home and asleep. They removed 3 cysts … but b/c they knew once they saw them what they were, they don’t need to send them out for biopsy. He’s FINE. Probably very sore … but fine. He’s just so cut up. It breaks my heart. And it’s going to be a long 10 days of leash walking since one incision is near his neck and I can’t put his collar on. We’ll survive. The vet got urine from Bailey. More on her behaviorist appt after Wednesday.

  24. I’m in Oregon, too, but I’m a California Girl (SoCal to be precise) at heart, so I’m happiest in July, August and September! Hot and dry. Though recently our Oregon weather has been gorgeous for this time of year…warm enough to walk outside, and for the kids to get their winter wiggles out.
