Famous Movie Quotes
I recently came across an article that talked about movie quotes that have become famous through the years. Quotes that we, as viewers of those movies, sometimes even use ourselves. Such as “Hasta la vista, baby!” (Terminator 2) or “Here’s looking at you, kid.” (Casablanca). As I was reading through the list, I thought it would be fun to post some of them here to see how many you all can guess! I’ll post the quotes first and the movie they came from below. Have fun!

How funj! I counted 19 that I got right. I can never think of the good quotes, so I’ll have to see what other people say - that will jog my memory.

I got 22 our of 25! I missed #3, #9 (I said Godfather, but not Godfather II) and #11, since I’ve never seen the Lord of the Rings films. But the rest I got! I love great films. Although…I don’t believe that Humphrey Bogard actually said, “Play it again, Sam” in the movie…I think it was just “Play it, Sam.” But I could be wrong.

I got all but #11.
Julie- You are correct. He never said “again”. It’s one of the most misquoted quotes in movies I think.

I got’em all. The line I love from My Big Fat Greek Wedding (which could’ve been My Big Fat Italian Wedding and looked like every wedding I ever went to as a kid, except there was no actual fighting in the movie) is when the mother is talking about her husband who has just put his foot down with the daughter. She says “The man, he is the head yes, but the woman…she is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she wants.”
Julie, Bogart actually says, “You played it for her, you can play it for me”, then Sam starts to protest and Bogart says “If she can stand it, I can! Play it!”
Janelle you left out my favorite, “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.” Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I did pretty good. I only missed 3(#2,#9, and #22). I knew 2 and 22 were from Dirty Harry movies, just wasn’t sure which ones. You listed so many of my favorite quotes, I’ll have to think a bit to list another one.
Thanks for including a Star Wars quote.

I enjoyed that! I love trivia! I got 4 wrong and they were all ones I’ve never seen. And the Dirty Harry ones, I knew what they were from, but didn’t have the right movies.

that was fun to read through..of course when i read the title i automaticallly had number one pop into my head because that is my all time favorite book and movie. Our favorite saying at work has been from Forrest Gump.. my momma always says.. stupid is as stupid does… lol

I got a lot, not nearly all of them but enough that I could feel semi-respectable!
In our family, the best quote is from Independence Day when he has the dog fight with the alien ship and then it crashes. There’s actually 2 lines. When he gets out of his plane and walks to the ship and says, “Your ship all baaanged up.” And then when he’s dragging the alien across the desert and he says something about, “Your dreadlocks hanging out of my chute.” Then he kicks it and says, “And what they hell is that smell?”
My family will find some occassion - regularly - to use those 2 lines. Even watching the race, when a car wrecks, someone will throw out the “ship all banged up” line.
Did you see the top 10 worst movie lines of all time a couple of weeks ago? I need to go back and find it because I didn’t get a chance to read it the day it was on Yahoo.

I missed 9,12, 13 and 19. I’m not as movie savvy as I thought.
Hope everyone is having a good day. At least the swelling as begun to subside in my ankle. I’ve graduated to a cane now and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Love Indenpendence Day. I think one of my favorite lines is when Will Smith opens up the spaceship after it crashes and the alien pops up and he punches the alien in the face and says “Welcome to Earth”.

Jodie, my favorite line in INDEPENDENCE DAY, which is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time, is when Will Smith punches the alien after the air fight and says, “Welcome to Earth.” Actually, that movie has some of the best dialogue ever…my other favorite is when Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum pop out of the alien mother ship at the end and Smith says, “Elvis has left the building!” and Goldblum, appears just to be blathering, but he replies with a very Elvis-like, “Thankyouverymuch.” I crack up every time. I bet a lot of it was improvised.

I missed five and can’t believe it, since I am not much of a movie viewer! My family loves watching
movies, so I guess it must be osmosis or something! Favorite line: Houston, we have a problem!

Julie, I almost quoted the Elvis quote from Independence Day too as one of my favorites.
Independence Day has so many great quotes it is really hard to limit to just one or two.

I forgot to keep count because I was having so much fun! It was a nice morning exercise for my brain.
It got me thinking…Why don’t we quote books more often? Do we need to hear a quote to make it ‘quotable’? If we all read the same book, would we all quote the same lines?

Liza and Julie - another great line from them in the spaceship, getting ready to leave earth, is when the “directions” are upside and in this very serious moment Will Smith says, “oopsie.” My kids like the “Welcome To Earth” part too.
That is one movie, that no matter how many times we’ve seen, we’ll stop and watch it again. I think kidlet finally recorded it on the DVR so we can just watch it whenever we want.

I didn’t keep track of right or wrong but I did recognize most of them! My fave is #1. It is amazing how many of these have crept into our everyday speech! Since I live in California & we all know who the Governor is here, Hasta la vista baby is heard a lot!! One of my favorite things at the Oscars was at the very beginning when they showed the animated bit with Arnold driving the truck/van whatever it was! Made me laugh!

LOVE Independence Day. It’s easy to miss but I love when Goldblum, as they’re speeding to get out of the mothership, mumbles “must go faster, must go faster”. Exactly like he did in Jurassic Park when they’re outrunning the T-rex in the jeep.
The mention of the Elvis line made me wonder, am I the only one that said the lines as the character said them in the movie while I was going through the list?
Julie, you’ve never seen LOTRs? Really? The whole trilogy was screened at our house twice in the last month. You up for 12 hours of movie watching?

I like Lord of The Rings (is it the second movie) when Sam is cooking the potatoes and gollum ask him “what?what is taters?” and same goes “u know PO TA TOES”
I always cracked up. Julie if you haven’t seen those movies you should there are some pretty good hotties in it.

Bruce, I absolutely love LOTRs…I read the books first and they were excellent…if you think 12 hours of watching the movies is a lot, read them all to include The Hobbit…I loved the books more, but I felt that the movies definitely did them justice…
