Who would you be … and why?

Carly Icon

FYI - I am technically not here. I’m on vacation in Florida so if I don’t check in often, that’s why. But I wanted to give you something fun to think about so here goes:
**********
It’s the day before Christmas. Most of you are busy getting ready for the holiday … but in case you stop by and I hope you do, here’s something fun to think about:

I think we all look at certain actors and actresses and think how cool they are. Their hair is awesome, their skin perfect, their husbands or boyfriends HOT! Or maybe there’s an actor or actress you feel as though you relate to on some level. I’ve had this thing for certain actresses - 2 to be specific. One is Kelly Ripa and this was before my book was picked on her Reading with Ripa bookclub. From the time she appeared on All My Children, I just felt some kind of weird click. Not so much as time has gone on though. Weird.

The next actress is Jennifer Garner. It started with my crazy Alias faze which I admit would still be ongoing if the show was on television. At first I loved her character. Then as time went on and she became more famous, I liked how real and down to earth she was/is/seemed to be. Her down home family, her relationship with Ben Affleck and how real he seems to be with her. Her daughter Violet (okay so I wouldn’t still be breast feeding but we have to part ways somewhere ) But we both love the Red Sox.

So the other day, this link showed up in my mailbox. My chance to see what I’d look like with Jennifer Garner’s hair. I could have tried a lot more actresses locks but I didn’t have a photo of myself without bangs to use for the template. Besides, this one was FUN!

So which actor/actress/person do you relate to on some level and why?

  1. Happy holidays Plotmonkeys and friends!

I don’t know that I relate to any actress, but I know that I like them for certain reasons. Like Kellie Martin, who was in “Life Goes On”, “ER”, and “Christy”. I loved the roles she played, the strong, intelligent women her characters were, that she’s not a crazy actress with all kinds of drama.

I also like Angelina Jolie for being such a caring ambassador for those in need, for loving children like she does, and for not really caring so much what people think. But the girl’s gotta eat something.

Drew Barrymore for being so full of life and happiness and truly seems to genuinely like people. Yeah she’s quirky and hopefully will find one man to love, but I still like her. :happychanuk: mastree:

  2. Goodmorning jungle friends,

Carly, very interesting blog you started here…I am not sure which actor or actress I relate to…I think of their lives as being on a different level from mine…so this one is hard for me to conceive of…I feel like I relate more to characters in a book than anything else…read a couple of books lately that have some characters I can relate to…for example you two sisters…Ari and Zoe…I am not talking on a relationship level, but more like an emotional level…they thought some of the same things I thought and felt the same way I did about certain things…yes, their lives are fictionalized, but there are some truths in there…Leslie’s Rachel Grant…that sense of hopelessness and hopefulness…if that even makes sense…sorry…I am getting off track here…

Anyway, I like the way you superimposed you face over Garner’s…that is very interesting…you know, I could see you with that hairstyle…it suits you…

That’s all I have to say for now…

    Happy Holidays everyone…

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

  3. Paula, I think b/c I DO find them in another world than me - that’s WHY I can relate to Jennifer Garner b/c she SEEMS so real. Notice I said SEEMS b/c who knows! Still. I like to think so!

  4. One actress that I really gravitate to is Emily Procter. She plays Callie deQuesne on CSI: Miami, but previously played Ansley Hayes on West Wing. She looks nothing like me, but there’s something about the unique strength she brings to her characters that really appeals to me. Also, Vanessa Marcil, who played Brenda Barrett on General Hospital for a long time and is now playing Samantha Jane Marquez on Las Vegas. She’s another tough girl who keeps her vulnerability so close to the surface, she’s compelling to watch.

Hmm….they’re both short like me. Maybe that’s why I like them!

  5. Reese Witherspoon. She also seems very normal and she is a wonderful mother. BTW she was married to Ryan Phillipe and is dating Jake Gyellnhal. (I know I butched their names. Sorry.) Both of these men make a little warm spot in my belly.

  6. The actress that I can relate to is also Jennifer Garner.
I like to listen to her every time she’s on TV. I had to stop doing whatever I was doing just to listen and watch her.
I feel like she’s a real person like she could be your friend even if she is a famous celebrity.

    Merry Christmas! mastree:
    Happy Holidays! :santawhat: :santahat:

I really, really love your books and Janelle’s.
And I hope to read Leslie and Julie’s books someday. :wreath:

  7. Dear Carly,
I can’t really relate to any actress. But I kind of like Reese Witherspoon. A lot of people tell me that they don’t think she is acctractive at all. But I can’t help me, I simply like her looks. But that doesn’t mean I can relate to her on an emotional level. I’m more the person (like you Paula) that finds role models in books. For example, for me, Sophie (in HOT ITEM) is kind of fascinating for me. How she tries to control everything around her. I think that’s impressive. Even if it doesn’t always work. I think I can relate to her cause I’m the kind of person that looks for control when something unexpected happens. And I love to have a certain stability in my life. (like Sophie) Then there are other characters from books I can relate to because they just aren’t perfect. And in Hollywood I somehow only know a certain actress because of her perfection or because of her good looks. So rolemodels from books somehow seem more natural to me. I know it is kind of ridiculous because these are less real than any actor or actress. But I can’t help me…
Now to the Plotmonkeys and everybody else out there: Merry Christmas
Enjoy but stay safe (here, we actually celebrate Christmas tonight)

  8. Hope you’re having a great time on vacation!

I’ve never really thought about this before but Sandra Bullock was the one that came to mind. I love the Miss Congeniality movies and the conflicted daughter in Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I don’t get the Jesse James thing but hey, to each his own.

Still one gift to get and I’ll get it when I go pick up hubby for lunch. Yesterday was his 2 week anniversary of being seizure-free so hopefully he’ll get his driving priveledges back soon. The doctor said to give it a couple of weeks and that means 2 in my book. Hope they agree…

  9. Hey guys…okay, I can’t relate to any one famous. I love Emily Proctor when she was on West Wing (I am not a republican, but I loved her silliquies (okay, I can’t spell that). I still think she should have ended up with Josh (yes, I am living in the past!). I probably can relate more to the Jane Kazmarski (Okay, I totally butchered her name….). Both of them seem so down to earth, plus the have an awesome charity (clothesoff ofourbacks) that gives money to autism research back when it wasn’t ‘popular’. mastree: :wreath: :stocking: :snowmanhead: :cold: :santawhat: :santawhat: :santahat: :menorah: :cold:

  10. Happy Christmas Eve Everyone! Good morning Plotmonkeys! Carly, glad to hear you made it safe and sound to Florida.

Okay in regard to relating to celebrities…the ones who come to mind first are ((((((((drum roll))))))))THE PLOTMONKEYS!!!

Otherwise, celebrities out in Hollywood otherwise known as Fantasy Land I can’t relate to at all because their lives are so unreal and “out there”.

    Except one.

This girl played a small part on Dallas back in the eighties then she was a regular cast member on Walker, Texas Ranger. Her name is Sheree J. Wilson and she played Alex Cahill on Walker. I don’t know what it is about her in particular but she just seems so real and down to earth to me. Maybe its her warm smile, I don’t know. She just feels like someone who would be my friend.

Hope everyone is having a great day. Take care all and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THE PLOTMONKEYS,
Thanks for keeping each & everyday interesting.

:snowmanhead: I can’t think of a single actress I can relate to! One actor I admire a great deal is Denzel Washington. He seems so real, not star struck.

Over the weekend I read Sealed With A Kiss. Carly, thanks for Molly & Hunter’s story and their journey to HEA. Enjoy your vacation.

  13. I would say Reba McIntyre. She is the most down to earth person I know of and I think would make a heck of a friend.

    Merry Christmas everyone!!! mastree:

All the ”s are wrapped (all 3 million of them), the food is mostly prepped, the annual holiday plumbing disaster has been fixed by hubby and I am on my way to celebrating here at home.

Any one on the road, be careful!!

  14. Can I just borrow their nutritionists, stylists and housekeepers? Okay, maybe just their masseuse. For the moment, I like my hair. The other stuff would really make me feel pretty! :-)
