Right Brain or Left Brain?
I was surfing the other day and found this link at Hank Phillippe Ryan’s website. Check it out:

This is what it says at The Herald Sun, where I found the image.
If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.
Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.
LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe
RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
“big picture” oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can “get it” (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking
I saw it counter-clockwise at first, but I was able to change it around. So I’m initially and instinctively right-brained and but can switch to left? Hm…not sure if I think that’s true or not. But hey, it’s interesting. What about you?
We interrupt this blog entry in order to…PARTY!!!

This just in from Publisher’s Lunch (which announces recent “deals” in the publishing world):
******
FICTION: WOMEN’S/ROMANCE
Leslie Kelly’s THE BLACK CATS, a series about a new FBI Cyber Action Team tracking serial killers through the Internet, including a vicious murderer attempting to weed out the gene pool by luring victims with the latest email hoaxes, to Laura Cifelli at NAL, in a nice three book deal, by Pamela Harty at The Knight Agency (world).

I know it’s going to be awhile before the books are out, but what a treat we’re all in for! Leslie, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a hard time getting it to go counterclockwise. I finally covered up the upper body and it would turn the other way.
Very neat.

Woo hoo! Way to go Leslie - exciting news!
I see her going clockwise. I’ll have to concentrate to make her go counter clockwise.
Comment by Stacy ~ — October 24, 2007 @ 6:56 am
I first saw her going clockwise but was able to change her to counter-clockwise and then either way within a minute.
Congratulations, Leslie! As always, looking forward to every new book your imagination brings us.
Comment by Cheryl S. — October 24, 2007 @ 7:09 am
I saw it clockwise and I could not get it to go counterclockise. Hmm …….
Comment by Carly — October 24, 2007 @ 8:16 am
Julie, Im confused. You initially saw it counter-clockwise? So you’re instinctively LEFT brained not right. Or am I reading this wrong?
Comment by Carly — October 24, 2007 @ 8:19 am
Well…I see it moving counter-clockwise, can’t get it to go clockwise, but I’m definitely more left brained than right brained.
Comment by Jodie — October 24, 2007 @ 8:22 am
Yes, according to this test, I’m more left-brained…and I find that VERY hard to believe.
However, I took the test on the day I was fiddling with taxes and such, so maybe I was just in a left-brained mood. I can make it switch back and forth just by looking away for a second. I guess I’m switch-brained.
Comment by Julie Leto — October 24, 2007 @ 8:39 am
I saw it going counter-clockwise first, but was able to get it to change back and forth.
Comment by Liza — October 24, 2007 @ 8:40 am
Wow - I saw it going counter-clockwise and had to make myself see her going clockwise. Guess I’m right-brained.
Congrats Leslie!
Comment by Michelle — October 24, 2007 @ 8:56 am
Was going counter-clockwise, then switched to clockwise. Can’t switch back. Cool, but kinda wierd.
Congratulations Leslie!
Comment by Kelly H — October 24, 2007 @ 8:58 am
Julie, she’s definitely going clockwise for me (big surprise?) but I can get her to go counterclockwise pretty often. I even got her to switch directions and go back and forth a few times before she could make a complete revolution (hey, I like to dance). I’ve taken these kinds of test before and I usually come out about 60/40 Right/Left. Which probably explains why I work in science but would prefer to be in the arts. That right brained list you put up there is definitely my default setting. And that was a pretty left brained statement. See? Anybody care to hear my prediction for which way she spins when Leslie looks at her?
And speaking of Leslie. I’m so proud of her!
Comment by Bruce — October 24, 2007 @ 9:14 am
I saw her twisting both ways (so doing the twist, first left, than right). Is it correct that I am balanced? I am probably just confused.
Comment by katie — October 24, 2007 @ 9:18 am
Congratulations Leslie! Love the blurb. I think you’ll do a great job with that!
Lori
(Oh, and my dancer spun both ways. Is she trying to tell me something?)
Comment by Lori Borrill — October 24, 2007 @ 9:29 am
I’m switched brain too!!! I start off counter clockwise then it will switch back and forth. Congrats Leslie
Comment by Barbara-Jo — October 24, 2007 @ 9:35 am
I saw it going clockwise, but was able to get it to change direction easily.
Congratulations Leslie!

Comment by Susan — October 24, 2007 @ 10:34 am
Congratulations Leslie
I saw her clockwise and was unable to get her to go counter-clockwise…
Have a great day all,
Cher
Comment by Cher — October 24, 2007 @ 10:34 am
I could only get it to go clock-wise. Definitely right brained.
Whoo-Hoo, Les!!!
Ladies and Gents, this is one AWESOME series and us Plotmonkeys are so happy for Les that it found such a good home! GO, LES!
Comment by Janelle — October 24, 2007 @ 10:37 am
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

I am SO excited and so very happy and cannot wait to show you all my very very very dark side. (Uh, not that you haven’t suspected it.
)
It will be a long time before the books start coming out…especially because I’ve only written part of one of them! But this has given me such a shot of creative energy and I truly can’t wait to get started!
Please be prepared for lots of “Oh my God, why did I think I could do this?” messages from me over the next year.
Comment by Leslie — October 24, 2007 @ 10:40 am
Clockwise. Only. Can’t get her to go the other way!
Does she really go the other way or are you just f’ing with me, Julie??
Comment by Leslie — October 24, 2007 @ 10:41 am
Thanks love.
And I am not at all surprised at the 60/40 split.
Comment by Leslie — October 24, 2007 @ 10:44 am
Not that I wouldn’t put it past me to totally f’ with you, Les, but no, she really can go both ways.
Comment by Julie Leto — October 24, 2007 @ 11:10 am
Leslie, Huge congrats! I know how worried you’ve been about where your writing future will head. Will you still write Blazes? (I love my Blazes…
Julie, I’m not certain I believe in this test. The clockwise rotation should not be me–I’m detail-oriented, organized, anti-risk-taking, etc., not creative (but, am emotional). However, I can make the dancer go counter-clockwise after a few seconds or so. Interesting.
Patricia A.
Comment by Patricia — October 24, 2007 @ 11:10 am
I do not vouch for the credibility of this test. It is for entertainment purposes only, LOL!
Comment by Julie Leto — October 24, 2007 @ 11:36 am
Patricia, yes, still doing Blazes. I actually have 3 coming out in 2008!
Comment by Leslie — October 24, 2007 @ 11:48 am
Major congrats Leslie!!
I can’t wait to read the series and when you say why did you think you could do this, we’ll encourage you right on cause YOU ROCK!!!
She only goes clockwise for me. After I read what Ann did I tried it and that worked for a few seconds.

lolol Tyne, don’t worry about it! The more emotion the better.
PS: I haven’t forgotten the special pizelle offer…did you ever figure out what I screwed up in the Santori books?
Comment by Leslie — October 24, 2007 @ 12:19 pm
Looks like I’m right brained. I was able to get it to go counter-clockwise but initially it was clockwise and when I came back to again it was still clockwise. When I read the traits of the two, I am definately more right brained than left (which is what my dh is).
Comment by Laura J — October 24, 2007 @ 1:11 pm
OMG - When I opened this page this time she was going clockwise and I can’t get it to reverse now!!! I swear before I didn’t see anyway that it would go clockwise and now I can’t figure out how I could see it going the other way! I think that is so cool, those of you that can make it switch!
Comment by Jodie — October 24, 2007 @ 1:29 pm
You know what? From the get go this little dancing lady has had me screwed up! Obviously it doesn’t take much to fLIck with me! I kept staring at it trying to make it move, then started thinking back to this morning and how the arms were moving. My whole post this morning was backwards!
It was before my cafeinne, before breakfast, and apparently before I ever should have crawled my tail out of bed! Scary to think I left shortly after posting this and drove! Think I’ll go back to bed now…
Comment by Jodie — October 24, 2007 @ 2:01 pm
I am right brained(with whatever is left of that mushy thing!) and have known that since high school(in the late ’70’s) when that kind of stuff was all the rage.I beleive it as much as I suck at math but am visually oriented.
YEA FOR Leslie Kelly! That is “killer” news.
Comment by Sue Mont — October 24, 2007 @ 2:31 pm
Congrats Leslie!!

Comment by Stacy S — October 24, 2007 @ 2:38 pm
For me the lady is going in both directions, she’ll start one way and then switch the other way
lol
Comment by Tina Martinesi — October 24, 2007 @ 2:57 pm
Can you tell this thing is driving me crazy!
But I think I have her mastered now. I can close my eyes and make it switch. No way could I do it just by staring but I have figured out where and how to look to make it go opposite with each blink!
I sure am glad that’s settled, now I can get on with my day!
Comment by Jodie — October 24, 2007 @ 3:22 pm
I see clockwise only. Means that I am right brained.
Comment by Phyllis Lamken — October 24, 2007 @ 3:43 pm
Congratulations Leslie. Your new series sounds exciting.
Wow! I saw the figure moving counter clockwise and then clockwise. It kind of makes you dizzy..at least it did me.
Comment by Shari C — October 24, 2007 @ 3:50 pm
I finally saw her counter clockwise, when I kept my eyes glued to her, then “refreshed” the screen. When she came back, she was counter for a few seconds, then went back to clockwise. Very bizarre!
Comment by Leslie — October 24, 2007 @ 3:52 pm
Pick a direction. Actually, Heahter is doing a course right now that goes into all that, and I have been doing the quizzes with her. I can use either side just as strongly. When I think I am one, something disproves it. I am such a

Okay, now I can make her switch back and forth at will. I’m going to see if I can get her to do a tripple Lutz. Which side of my brain would that be?
Comment by Bruce — October 24, 2007 @ 4:31 pm
That would be triple not tripple.
Comment by Bruce — October 24, 2007 @ 4:33 pm
My power of concentration isn’t to good right now & she will only go clockwise for me!
Leslie,
I am so happy for you and for all the readers! You have 3 Blaze books coming out in 2008, the readers are the winners!!
Yea!
Comment by Donna M — October 24, 2007 @ 5:47 pm
Huge congrats, Leslie!!
And I cannot for the life of me get the figure going counter-clockwise. Only clockwise for me…
Comment by Fedora — October 24, 2007 @ 5:48 pm
I saw the clockwise first but then I was able to get it to go both ways - I am a little of both lol.
Comment by catslady — October 25, 2007 @ 12:15 am
I can see her going both ways even though I have what is known as a visual spacial disorder…in other words I can only focus on one certain thing for a short time before I begin to drift off onto something else. Makes it hard to complete tasks from start to finish. I’ve been able to manage it better as I get older, but it sure makes for a difficult taskmaster…LOL This, though, I was able to do with hardly any trouble!
Comment by Joni — October 25, 2007 @ 3:15 am
Wow I’m amazed at all the people who can see her going clockwise. I cannot. I only see her going counter-clockwise no matter how long I look at her. I’m not surprised because I am the poster child for left brained functions.
Mucho congrats to Leslie! Awesome! I know it will be a while before they are out, but I ALWAYS look forward to a Leslie Kelly book!
