TV Season Report Card So Far: 2007

Leslie Icon

Well, we are a month into the new TV season, and as I did last year, I figured I’d go over a few of the new shows and give them my personal thumbs up or thumbs down.

There were a few shows I was really looking forward to this year, so I’ll start with those.

First and foremost, I was excited about PRIVATE PRACTICE. I had really liked the teaser episode last spring, enjoyed the characters and the new setting, and like Addison enough that I thought I’d enjoy seeing her in her own show.

Boy was I wrong.

This show is just boring. It is trying some of the “soapy” elements that made Grey’s Anatomy so popular…but so far absolutely none of the characters, and none of their relationships, is terribly interesting. Tim Daly (loved him in Wings) looks like he’s had one too many plastic surgeries, and I just cannot see Addison with him after having both McDreamy and McSteamy (would you just want to be a McSandwich with those two? But I digress…)

I can’t stand the whiny psychiatrist mooning over her ex boyfriend. When she started playing the answering machine message over and over, I turned the channel. Don’t care about the divorced couple…talk about selfish and self destructive. Can’t stand the hospital administrator who is totally thrown in for conflict. About the only characters I like are Addison and the pediatrician. (Does it say something that I cannot remember a single one of their names, despite having watched every episode so far?)

Aside from the character issues, Private Practice has none of the exciting side-stories to prop it up. There’s always something exciting, fast-paced and thrilling going on in the Seattle Grace Emergency Room. In a Los Angeles multi-practice doctor’s office? Umm…not so much. And what there is seems INCREDIBLY contrived (like the teen mom who just-so-happens to have this super duper dangerous OB procedure on the very day the super duper OB supersurgeon just started at the clinic. Gimme a break.)

So, I am sorry to say, a

for Private Practice. I am hoping Addison quickly decides L.A. is not for her and heads back to Seattle. (Grey’s, by the way, is kicking butt…I’m loving Mark & Derek’s renewed friendship, Callie’s troubles as lead attending, Meredith & Derek’s crazy/dysfunctional relationship. Everything except Izzie and George, aka: the Couple I Most Wish Would Die.

Now…a show I didn’t expect much from and have liked:

CHUCK

Chuck is on NBC on Monday nights, 8pm. And I have been completely charmed by every episode. The main character, Chuck, is such a cute and adorable, loveable geek, who you just root for. The kind of guy who doesn’t expect to get the girl because he’s just too nice and normal. He suddenly finds himself thrown into the role of special agent…and playing the role of boyfriend to a supersexy undercover agent posing as a hot dog girl.

I love Chuck. Love his sister and her cocky boyfriend, love the friends at the Best Buy type store where he works. The concept (all the most important secrets in the country are implanted in his brain) is far-fetched, but it just works. The CSA agent John Casey posing as an appliance salesman is an absolute hoot. And the building sexual tension between Chuck and CIA agent Sarah is really nice to watch.

The other show I was really looking forward to is…

PUSHING DAISIES.

This is the show I most looked forward to. The concept titillated me…a guy can bring the dead back to life with a single touch, ask them who killed them, then touch them and let them die again, all within 60 seconds. If he waits too long, someone else dies. The problem is, he one day touches the face of his childhood sweetheart, and he just can’t let her go. Thus she remains alive and he falls in love with her…but he can never touch her.

Isn’t that fabulous? Isn’t that a wonderful setup? Wouldn’t that be an amazing romance novel?

And doesn’t it just SUCK that I’m so disappointed by it?

It took me a while to figure out why. I think the problem is, the show is just trying waaaay too hard! Too hard to be weird, and quirky, and otherworldly. The cast is good enough (with the exception of the main heroine, Chuck, who I don’t like at all) that it could work without all the ridiculously over-the-top, silly elements. The voice-overs from Jim Dale quickly lost their appeal (as much as I like Jim Dale.)

There’s Quirky, and then there’s Stupid. I’m reminded of one of my favorite shows of many years ago…Twin Peaks. It was fabulous–just odd enough. Then the dancing midget showed up and the show completely jumped the shark.

Pushing Daisies is heading for that. This show could have been wonderfully quirky if it were just a little bit more normal.

As it is? It’s just about jumped over to Stupid.

I give it a with this caveat: I am holding out hope that the writers will perhaps settle in and start letting the story flow and evolve, rather than going for nonstop cheap, weird moments week after week. The potential really is there–there’s some nice chemistry between Ned (the pie-maker) and his private detective buddy (played by the wonderful Chi McBride.) They COULD fix this…I really hope they do. Otherwise, I seriously think this one will be gone in a few months.

And finally, my favorite new show of the year…

REAPER.

I LOVE this show.

Sam, our cute, hapless hero finds out on his 21st birthday that his parents sold his soul to the devil and he now has to be the devil’s bounty hunter. (It sounds worse than it is–his father’s life was at stake, and they decided to never have children…but the devil made sure they did.) It’s hysterically funny–he works in a Home Depot type store and has the most obnoxious, sexist, piggy best friend who could steal every scene if Sam weren’t such a well-grounded, solid main character. His other co-workers help him use everyday objects turned into soul-trapping weapons in their quest to capture the souls…from Dirt Devils to radio-controlled cars, they get the job done one way or the other. And then deliver the souls to the portal of hell…in the DMV! There’s a love interest that’s developing slowly but has a lot of potential. An added bonus: Ray Wise as the devil is deliciously wicked and utterly delightful.

Reaper isn’t on one of the big 4 networks, it’s on the CW, Tuesday nights at 9pm. That’s opposite House (one of my fave shows) but so far Tivo has been very good to me. Try to check it out if you haven’t had the chance!

I know there are lots of other new shows, but these are the ones I’ve really watched and feel qualified to rate.

As for returning shows? That’s another topic for another day…but I will say…YAY HEROES!

What about you guys? Any thoughts on these or any other new shows?

  1. I haven’t seen Private Practice because I loathed the preview last season. I’m with you on Grey’s, though.

The only new show I’ve added is Moonlight, the one with the vampire. Yes, it’s opposite Friday Night Lights, but I Tivo FNL and watch Moonlight. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s better than any of the other new shows I’ve seen.

  2. Not a t.v. watcher but some of the ones you’ve mentioned sound good, like “Chuck” and “Reaper”. Sorry “Pushing Up Daisies” isn’t working for you - seems there’s been a lot of hype about this show. Maybe too much.

    Comment by Stacy ~ — October 16, 2007 @ 6:49 am

  3. Hmm … Jen (youngest) and I watch Private Practice and I like it for what it is … a time passer, although like Les, I can’t remember anyone’s names and hate the whiny shrink! Love Grey’s, hate Izzy and George too. Wanted to see Reaper but didn’t. I’m glad it’s good!

New shows - I think you’ve made me realize I’ve basically stuck to the old ones!

    Comment by Carly — October 16, 2007 @ 7:12 am

  4. Glad I’m not the only one feeling Private Practice … but thankfully my favorite show is back on track … Callie needs a friend so maybe Addison can come back … I saw part of Chuck and that looked good. I’ll have to check out Reaper … I’ve been watching Sex Love Money (I think that’s the name of it.) Still not sure how I feel about it - that family is CRAZY so I end up glued to see what they do next.

  5. I totally agree about Private Practice. I just hope they let Addison come back to Grey’s. Loving Grey’s this year but hope they kill off the Izzie-George romance fast. I started watching Chuck and love it. One of the best new shows on tv(will give Reaper a try tonight). I tried Pushing Up Daisies and Moonlight(Bloodties is so much better), but don’t really like either enough to keep watching. I did like Women’s Murder Club on Friday night(on at same time as Friday Night Lights). Most of the shows I’m watching are the same ones from last year.

    Comment by Liza — October 16, 2007 @ 8:40 am

  6. Did anyone watch the show Samantha Who? last night. I really liked it. I thought it was funny and interesting. Pushing Daisies was stupid and I turned it off before I even made it half way through.

    Comment by Patty L. — October 16, 2007 @ 9:02 am

  7. Liza, WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB is the only new show I’ve watched this season and I LOVED it. Love Angie Harmon in this role. She’s really a great actress anyway (adored her on Law & Order). She can show so much emotion just in her eyes. That moment at the end when she cracked…just a bit…powerful stuff. And I love the emotional turmoil of her working for her ex. Love all the characters except maybe the prosecutor, but I’m willing to give her a shot. I think it’s a great combination of actresses and great plotting.

I have not watched any other new show. I’m only watching HEROES, but I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet. Loving the show, though, as always.

I have, once again, rediscovered an older show and am addicted to the reruns on TNT–last year it was Charmed, this year it’s LAS VEGAS. I will be watching when Tom Selleck comes on…or did I miss that already?

    Comment by Julie Leto — October 16, 2007 @ 9:15 am

  8. Patty! I meant to tivo Samantha Who? I love Christina Applegate and really wanted to watch. I also love the premise. I’ll try and remember next week!

    Comment by Julie Leto — October 16, 2007 @ 9:16 am

  9. I like “Private Practice” (probably because I love Addison). I agree with the psychiatrist issue….what a waste of Amy Brenamen…..I am also dislike the surfer/midwifery in training. The joke is over.

I am annoyed by “Grey’s” still. Okay, the season finale really made me mad (I didn’t even watch it ALL summer long, which typically I would do because I was still depressed from it). George and Izzie? Still don’t get it. George and Callie…they were better as boyfriend/girlfriend. I had a ‘duh’ moment when George said last episode, “who would marry someone whose dad just died?” Duh, said that when they found out they were married (you can even check my post from that date!!!). Either Meridith and McDreamy are together or they are apart. Don’t get that, either. I miss Burke. Don’t like what he did (the actor), but miss the character. Mer’s sister just is annoying. So is Karev….where’s the tension with Addison? Karev just needs a woman if you know what I mean.

I haven’t watched any new shows other than “Private Practice”. Too caught up with DWTS (is anyone else confused by some of the pairings?). Typically, there are some that are awkward, but it seems like this season, every pairing is weird. The music is always not quite right, but this season it seems REALLY off. I haven’t seen all of it this week, but I miss Drew…he gave sort of a good insight since he was actually a competitor.

I have only seen about the last half of “CHUCK” each week (I have yoga and hubby forgets to record it). Last night, he told me I actually giggled (I haven’t giggled in a long time, too stressed out…that’s why I need yoga). The show seems just too contrived and silly for me.

  10. I thought Samantha Who was adorable. Very cute. Funny. Love Jean Smart as her mother with the video camera!

Forgot! Cain with Jimmy Smiths is VERY good …

    Comment by Carly — October 16, 2007 @ 9:22 am

  11. Good morning Plotmonkeys and all

I watched one of the new shows except for 5 or 10 minutes–Pushing Daisies which I’m sorry, I thought it was very silly. Otherwise, I’m stuck to CSI, House, Burn Notice–which unfortunately is only on in the summer and Ghost Hunters. I’ve never watched more than 5 minutes or so of Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve never seen Private Practice or Boston Legal or any of those shows. Used to love Law and Order until Jerry Orbach (sp) died then it was never the same again. So I don’t watch it anymore.

The one show I’m REALLY surprised I’m getting in to is Moonlight. It’s about a vampire detective and I like it. I’ll keep it on season pass on Tivo as long as it holds my interest. I don’t usually like vampires but for some weird reason I like this show. Remember that old show Night Stalker? I used to love to watch that.

    Have a great day everone,

    Cher

  12. I feel the same way Leslie about Private Practice. Thought I would love it but am disappointed. I’m a reality show junkie so I watch the Bachelor and Survivor so I couldn’t check out all the new shows. I love Cain, Big Shots and Dirty Sexy Money. I wonder if Dirty will last though.

    Comment by Michelle — October 16, 2007 @ 9:37 am

  13. Big Shots is cute … Not what I would have wanted for my man Michael Vartan b/c I don’t think the ratings are huge … which is sad w/such a gorgeous cast!

    Comment by Carly — October 16, 2007 @ 9:42 am

  14. You know, I meant to mention Moonlight but my post was already getting verrrry long.

I don’t feel entirely qualified to rate it thumbs up or down based on the 1.4 episodes I’ve watched. I think it has a lot of potentail, but it’s just missing for me. Funny thing is, my very favorite part has been the tiny little “interview with the vampire” bit at the beginning of the pilot. It was funny, self-deprecating, really hit the “vampire lore” issue and made him seem so much hotter. The show on the whole is just so dark–I know it’s about a vampire, but those few minutes proved to me it could work if they’d let him be a cooler vampire rather than a tormented one.

And I wanted to see Samantha Who! Just totally forgot about it.

PS: Heroes…I am loving it but I am also really getting sick of seeing the new heroes from Mexico. Not at all into their story and there’s enough sub-titling already! But oh, my, isn’t Peter looking HOT HOT HOTTTTTTT!!!

    Comment by Leslie — October 16, 2007 @ 10:15 am

  15. Have not seen Private Practice (never watched Grey’s Anatomy! ) or Pushing Daisies. Saw one episode of Chuck and liked it–must watch more! And Reaper sounds pretty intriguing–will have to add it to the TiVo list! My husband’s been watching Heroes, and he’s pretty happy the season’s started again! Must go catch up on House…

    Comment by Fedora — October 16, 2007 @ 10:31 am

  16. Um..let’s see. I’ve watched the races and the movie Cars so far this fall. Gee, I guess you can take the girl out of the woods but you can’t take the red out of the neck.

I did want to watch “Pushing Daisies” I just forgot about it and after I missed it the first week didn’t try to find it anymore. I hate to think how much they paid for a spot in the previews to Harry Potter only to have the show stink.

But something I noticed about these shows…there are a lot of sci-fi paranormal shows on. Are they finally catching up to what us readers have known all along - this is good stuff!

Can someone tell me when and what channel Moonlight is on? I’ll set my DVR to start recording those, it sounds good.

    Comment by Jodie — October 16, 2007 @ 10:37 am

  17. I think Tom Selleck has been on Las Vegas already. I have to add it to my season pass on Tivo. I am loving Heroes this season(still have to watch last night’s tonight), but agree with everyone about the 2 new heroes from Mexico. I do agree that Peter is !

    Comment by Liza — October 16, 2007 @ 10:46 am

  18. Hey Leslie~ I love Chuck too! It’s a great show. And I agree with all your other assessments. Only caught the first episode of Reaper but will try and watch it again. Samantha Who was cute. And Julie, I’ve watched Las Vegas since day one, it’s fun. But I have to say, I’m not liking Tom Selleck as much as I did James Caan.
I really like Moonlight too! Jodie, it’s on Friday’s at nine on CBS.

    Comment by Robin — October 16, 2007 @ 10:51 am

  19. Robin - thanks! I’ll watch it this Fri.

Did I tell you guys what I’m doing? I’m sooooo excited!! Hubby is going on an annual fishing trip this weekend in SC (Thurs.-Mon). I’m going with him to help him drive (he still gets tired really easy) and then I’m staying in a hotel room ALL BY MYSELF!! King bed, jacuzzi, fridge, microwave. I swear, I’m not leaving that room once I check in!

Patricia, I did see your follow-up post on Sunday and everyone is doing great and recovering nicely - thanks for asking!

    Comment by Jodie — October 16, 2007 @ 11:27 am

  20. Good morning everyone,
I agree with Leslie about Private Practice… what a disappointment! They have an all-star cast but lots of bad storylines and whining shrinks. It’s definitly not Grey’s… This season on Grey’s is a plus. I would like to see if Miranda takes over for Callie as the new chief, seeing that Callie is overwhelmed with being one.
I like John Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club, the first episode was excellent. It deserves a thumbs up. However, I never read any John Patterson books.
Haven’t seen Moonlight, i put it on my ipod video because it was free and havent gotten around to watch it. But i will.

  21. I’m enjoying Moonlight and Cane.

    Comment by Susan — October 16, 2007 @ 11:33 am

  22. Oh my gosh, Jodie ~ I’m very jealous! Have a wonderful time! Think of all the TV watching, book reading, and writing you’ll be able to get done.

    Comment by Robin — October 16, 2007 @ 11:49 am

  23. I am agreeing with everyone on Private Practice. I watched the first episode and can’t bring myself to watch another one, just didn’t think it was so good. I am also hoping just like everyone else, that Addison heads back to Grey’s.

As for other new shows. I’ve watched Cane on at 10 on Tuesday night, and I like it quite a bit so far. I watched 1 episode of Dirty Sexy Money on Wednesday night, won’t watch it again. Of course, after reading every book by James Patterson, and it is James, I was eagerly waiting for Women’s Murder Club. The first episode was great, and I agree with whomever it was above that said the tension with Angie Harmon and her ex in this show was really good. I can’t wait for the next episode. Only thing about this show is, Jame’s detective in the book has blonde hair, where Angie Harmon’s is definitely not blonde. I know that seems minor, but after he perfectly describe Lindsey Boxer(the detective) in the last book, I was expecting a blonde to play the role, but Angie has done an excellent job so far.

Jodie, I know what you mean about not leaving that hotel room and being all alone. I am leaving Sat. night to go to the Smoky Mountains BY MYSELF for 6 days and nights. No husband, no son, and I can’t wait to go. I will do what I want, when I want, and for how long I want. Will hike if I feel like it, read if I feel like it, or just hang out or shop, whatever I want this time.

And of course, I cannot go without saying,

    GO CLEVELAND INDIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comment by Kathy — October 16, 2007 @ 11:56 am

  24. Well, I tried to watch Chuck last night but couldn’t get into it. I think it was just the mood I was in. I’ll have to try it again. I would like to see Reaper. My husband has me watching the new Flash Gordon on Sci-Fi. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. I’m really not a tv person. If there is a show I like I’ll wait and buy the season on DVD that way I can watch them when I want to.

I guess I should really start twisting my hubby’s arm so I can get a TiVo, huh.

  25. I LIKED CHUCK AND WILL CONTINUE WATCHING IT IN THE FUTURE.
WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB WAS VERY GOOD TOO–AT LEAST IT IS
DIFFERENT. PRIVATE PRACTIC IS JUST SO-SO, REALLY NEITHER
A THUMBS UP OR DOWN–JUST IN BETWEEN.
    ALSO LIKE PUSHING DAISIES TOO.
    MATKA/ALICE

  27. Unlike like Leslie I did not like the teaser episode of Private Practice so I did not even bother with it. I am a big fan of Grey’s and I do not wish George and Izzie to die! I enjoy the entire cast.
We have seen Pushing Daisies , and yes while I do think it is over the top quirky I like it a lot. I loved it when Alison Chenworth sang last week. And I adore the private detective.
My husband and I have been watching The Bionic Woman with our 16 year old son. My son enjoys it, I am neutral as I am trying so hard not to compare it to the ’70’s version with Lyndsey Wagner, and my husband is ready to stab his eyes out! The show is trying way to hard and shoving way to much info into every episode. We are all exhausted when the show is over!
I taped Samantha Who last night but have not seen it yet. Also tonight we are going to tru Carpool.
Mayb e it is just me, but I still miss good shows like Cagney and Lacey!

  28. I’ve been watching Private Practice because I love Addison but I’m hoping the pace is going to pick up! Dirty Sexy Money isn’t really grabbing me but I may watch a few more episode’s. Monday night is Dancing With The Stars & The Bachelor so haven’t watched anything opposite those programs! Love Dancing With The Stars! I think this Bachelor is quite interesting & I’m wondering after last night’s episode just what is going to happen next week when someone leaves the show!! Big Shots is not to bad, I like the cast of men! Can’t think of any other new shows I’ve tried, oh yea, The Women’s Murder Club was quite good & nice to have a decent program on Friday night. That is my opinion so far!

    Comment by Donna M — October 16, 2007 @ 3:12 pm

  29. Sue, I don’t want George and Izzie’s characters to die…just their romance. Ick! I can’t see them as a couple AT ALL. I’d really love to see her end up with Mark…and I totally loved her with Alec. Though I was mad at Alec for being such a jerk to George in the elevator last week. That was just crappy.

And I love Kristen Chenowith, too! I was lucky enough to get to see her on Broadway in Wicked, and was thrilled that she got a chance to sing on Pushing Daisies. But her character is just so over-the-top. Wish they’d make her a little more real.

  31. I love REAPER, too! Missed the beginning episodes of CHUCK, which makes me hesitant to jump in now, but I hope it lasts long enough to go into repeats so I can catch it from the start…especially now that I’ve found out Adam Baldwin is on it. Love him!

    I’m enjoying PUSHING DAISIES, but I agree that it’s a little over-the-top. Also liking K-VILLE & MOONLIGHT.

  32. I love CHUCK! especially Casey - I don’t know, his sarcastic somewhat-evil-yet-still-a-good-guy ways does it for me.

I haven’t been watching Reaper or Pushing Daisies, and I’m so over the drama at Seattle Grace. Moonlight is meh..I don’t know, it’s just so boring to me! but Supernatural has been kicking butt! (Hi, Dean, marry me?)

  33. I Moonlight. Alex O’Loughlin is one hot vampire!

    Comment by Marie — October 16, 2007 @ 5:26 pm

  34. Chuck is cute. Grim Reaper - have a problem with it - because of the premise - how can someone sell your soul - don’t you have rights to it? Anyway enjoy Moonlighting and Bionic Woman.

  35. I’ve tried to give Private Practice a chance, but it’s just not doing a thing for me. All the characters are BLAH, and what happened to the fiesty, sarcastic Adison from Grey’s Anatomy?

I’m a reality TV junkie, so that’s what it seems like I’m mostly watching. America’s Next Top Model, The Biggest Loser, The bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, etc.

I LOVE Big Shots — It’s like the male version of Desperate Housewives!

  37. Private Practice is ok- for a filler anyway. I am not as thrilled as I wanted to be with it.

I love Chuck and Dirty Sexy Money, and Women’s Murder Club. I love Patterson. Moonlight, Bionic Woman and Reaper I have dvr’d. I have to catch up with Heroes.

    Samantha Who? was very good.

Has anyone else watched Life? About the cop who spent 12 years in jail when he was innocent? It is a different type of cop show.

Dancing with the stars has been pleasantly surprising this season. I wasn’t sure about the stars when they announced them, but Helio, Mel B., Marie, Jennie and the Cheetha Girl have been fun to watch. I am hoping the Floyd goes home tonite. This and Idol are the only 2 reality shows I watch, although I will most likely watch the Band one that starts soon.

There is a new show set in Vegas starting this week too. I am ambivelant about Las Vegas. The sexual comments made last week surprised me that they made it past the censors. I haven’t decided if I like Tom Sellack in the part yet. He has to grow on me. Replacing Jimmy Caan isn’t easy.

Then there are all my returning favorites. Let’s not go there. LOL

  38. Liz, just FYI…the premise of Reaper is that his parents made a deal with the devil years and years ago, that in exchange for saving the husband’s life, they would give their firstborn child to the devil. They intended to *never* have a child and therefore not have to fulfill their part of the bargain, and the father got a vasectomy, but the devil made sure they got pregnant anyway.

He did have the choice to refuse…in which case, the parents deal with the devil was null and his father would die. So he agreed to the devil’s terms.

It really does work (as much as anything so far fetched can work…lol!)

  39. And oh, my God, the paint mixer rodeo alone on tonight’s Reaper is making this whole episode completely worthwhile!

    Comment by Leslie — October 16, 2007 @ 9:24 pm

  40. I will have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of Pushing Daisies. I am loving it so far. I don’t find the show too over-the-top or trying too hard, and I’ve been a Lee Pace (Ned) fan since Soldier’s Girl and Wonderfalls.

I wish I had a DVR or Tivo. It would make life so much easier, what with the shows I try to keep up with.

    Comment by Diana — October 16, 2007 @ 10:36 pm

  41. I just have too disagree a little bit about the shows. I love Pushing Daisies. I think it’s because it reminds me of something that could come from the mind of one of my favorite directors, Tim Burton. It’s just that querky it does work. Just my opinion though.

Chuck and Reaper are two of the best shows of the season. I’m hoping they stay for the rest of the season and get picked up for a second. It happens with too many good shows that don’t get picked up.

Private Practice I like as well. I went into it not comparing it to Grey’s Anatomy and I think that’s why I like it a little more than most people.
As for George and Izzie, they either need to get together or just stop, that I agree with you 100%. However, I still miss Denny. They never should have killed him off. :unlove:

As I said, I see potential in Pushing Daisies…and was totally prepared to love it too. But I just…didn’t.

  43. I’ve DVR’d every episode of Private Practice so far this season ~ and haven’t watched it at all. Not sure I’m going to. I loved the teaser last season on Grey’s, but Private Practice just hasn’t grabbed me like I thought it.

I love Pushing Daisies ~ It is my new must see show. I love that it’s quirky and is out of the norm of the other shows on TV right now.

My other new favorite is Moonlight ~ The guy that plays Mick absolutely flips my switch. He and the heroine have great chemistry also.

  44. Leslie, agreed with all of your calls, right down to the Chi McBride lovin’.

I didn’t want to like REAPER, but the attitude of the characters is correct and funny. The Jack Black character should have been the one to be cursed with the job… and then I realized he LIKES the Call To Adventure. You need someone who keeps refusing The Call to make it work. In a way, it’s like I DREAM OF JEANNIE with Hagman’s character not wanting the power and Dailey’s character relishing the thought of controlling Jeannie.

PUSHING DAISIES is too quirky for it’s own good, but the dialog may yet save the show. Banter. It still has a decent level of banter, but the lead character hero doesn’t have enough of a challenge. The producers are dazzling us with flash, but eventually that wears off.

What you didn’t mention was JOURNEYMAN, which is a bit slow and uninteresting, but I can’t stop watching it… for now. Funny… the book THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE was a hit with the woman pining after her man… and in this the woman is just plain pissed. That and the four way romance… I want to see how this sets up.

MOONLIGHT is already running out of ideas.

PRIVATE PRACTICE has already been summed up with the word “Whiney” and I’ll just leave that here.

Speaking of whiney, that’s what BROTHERS AND SISTERS has turned into.

Oh, the female hero of CHUCK? Why did they get a Portia DiRossi look alike? Is Portia herself too expensive? The show is getting repetitive, but since I want to see how the soap opera there works out, I’m still on board. It’s a show for kids, but I still enjoy it.

  45. I had to add my 2 cents.
I’m very disappointed with the new shows this season. :

    Chuck
Pushing Daisies (jury is still out on this one)
    Bionic Woman is kinda Cool.

    I Love Ramsays Kitchen Nightmare.

And my new love of the season is Dirty Sexy Money.
I think it is really good.

I was really disappointed with Moonlight. The new vampire show.
the writers don’t use the rightr vampire love to make it believable. i love Vampire books. I think they should ask some of the Paranormal writers of Vampire stories like susan Squires their thoughts on this subject. :vampire:

I’m sticking to House, NCIS , Grey’s Anatomy and BBC America. I’m getting hooked on that chanel.

  46. Oh, Walt, yes, I forgot Journeyman! I had actually heard it was already canceled, though.

I have watched it–just too lazy to change the channel after Heroes I guess. I loved Time Traveler’s Wife, and see some potential with this, but you’re right, it’s a bit slow and the triangle between him, his wife and his brother is annoying. But I do really like the element of him running into his “traveling” ex in the past, not knowing where she is in the present.

  47. Private Practice, is just a filler that I watch before Dirty,Sexy, Money. A show that I was not going to watch but found myself really liking. I tried watching Bionic Woman, boy was that a mistake. I laughed during the pilot because the acting was so bad and it has not gotten better. I really like Chuck its quirky funny, I also like Journeyman it comes after Heroes and there nothing really afterwards so I just watch ti.

I Like Janelle really really like Big Shots( I thought I would only watch to see Michael Vartan, but I really like at least 3 of the guys Josh Malina character just gets on my nerves) I’m still watching FNL so I didn’t have a chance to watch the Murders Club. I tried to watch Moonlight but as with Bionic Woman I was really dissapointed in it, it tried to be Forever Knight and its just not working for me. started watching Men in Trees. Sunday I watch Cold Case and that usually rounds out my tv week, unless you catch me watching either baseball or college football.

  49. I’m not much of a TV addict (maybe, working in the industry for 30 years did it…, but did see PRIVATE PRACTICE. Yuck! All characters, except Addison, are awful; cast has no chemistry & even formerly good actors pretty much suck; &, bottom line, to me, it’s INSULTING to sick people to focus on medical fields that aren’t those that try to make people who are ACTUALLY SICK better. I look at Addison & say, why have you sold your soul? Totally agree about Izzy & Geo. A def Ick factor.

Have seen the promo for SAMANTHA WHO? (but, not the show) & it looks as if it might be cute. Also, have heard good things about WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB.

    That’s it for me.
