My Favorite Website

Carly Icon

It shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that I love dogs. Hence, my favorite website is about man’s or in my case woman’s best friend. The site is called The Daily Puppy

I found this site when I was looking for wheaten breeders to get Bailey. I found Keeley, the soft coated wheaten terrier HERE .

I then signed up for email so I receive a new puppy daily. If I click on the new puppy photo, it takes me to the website where I can scroll down and see many pics of the daily puppy … and then I can vote how cute the doggie is by up to 11 bones. I also put this site on my Google homepage, which if I don’t get the email early in the morning it shows me the dog of the day; and just in general puts a smile on my face whenever I visit that page.

One of my favorite breeds beyond the Wheaten is the Corgi. I really really love this dog but it sheds and so it would be an allergy issue in my house. Check out Zephyr the Corgi.

If you love dogs, I hope you enjoy this site.

So what’s YOUR favorite dog breed?

  1. I had a dog that was half collie, half husky, and he was just gorgeous, so I’d go with that one. Or else the Newfoundlands. I love big dogs.

  2. Well, everyone knows I think that I have a long-haired dachsund, but this isn’t exactly my favorite breed, even if she is my favorite dog! She’s very unlike most of her breed…she’s not yappy or mean (as dachsunds can be) but is very mellow. She wants everyone to love her. Not like, LOVE. She’s very submissive…and it took me a long time to get used to that.

Like Stacy, I’m a big dog person. All my previous dogs were mutts and males. My first dog, Bullet, came home regularly with an ear hanging off or his throat ripped out from fighting. He loved people, ESPECIALLY kids, but hated other animals. We’d always find dead birds and cats in the yard. He was VERY fast…hence the name.

My most recent dog, Buggabear, was a chow-lab mix…about 100 lbs. He was an Alpha male in every sense of the word! He wasn’t mean…just formidable. Had a mind of his own. He’s still legend around here–especially with my brothers who could never manage to sneak out of the house b/c they’d get caught by either me or Bugga…we were a tag team. When my husband asked for permission to marry me, my father made taking the dog a condition…as if I’d leave without him! He saved my life at least once. Maybe twice. I miss him horribly. :

  3. I always thought I was a small dog person until we got Buddy. He is the perfect dog in temperament and size. Bailey … is Bailey, LOL! Perfect in her own way but wild. I do think bigger dogs are gentler which shocked me. I had a Maltese that I had to give away we had him before Jackie was born and gave him away when I was pregnant with Jennifer b/c he was biting and snarling. Went to an older woman who recently lost her dog, and she knew all about his personality and took him and loved him anyway. He had a great home until the day he died. (I never saw him again - couldn’t have handled it - but kept up with him through my friend Mike who found him a home.

  4. My dog Maggie came from the pound but is a spitting image of a wheaten terrier. She is truly the BEST dog and I recommend wheatens to everyone.

  5. It goes without saying I’d love to see a pic of Maggie!

  6. Growing up I didn’t have experience with full breed dogs - we always had mutts that people would drive out into the country and drop off and they’d end up wandering to our house. But all that changed with hubby.

He had a Brittney Spaniel that was as sweet as he was old (17 years)! And I’d probably be okay with another of those. But then he called me one night from a Duck’s Unlimited banquet and said, “Can I come home?”

    Huh?

“I kinda sorta bought a dog. He’s a golden retriever and..well..I want out boys to have a dog growing up like I had.” Yeah right, use the boys as your excuse. I knew the Spaniel wasn’t going to last much longer and so I wanted hubby to have another dog so I let him and the puppy come home.

I was asleep when he got home and I thought he’d put a bear in bed with me. He had the biggest paws and head I’d ever seen. He was only 7 weeks old but he was huge - all the groomers, vets, everyone said he was the biggest golden they’d ever seen, definitely an alpha, but he thought he was a lap dog.

He loved people so much he couldn’t get close enough. He was sweeter than any animal I had ever seen. Patient with the kids. Patient with the yellow lab we got a few years ago. He’d lay there and let her chew on his ear like a chew toy (when he’d had enough though one growl from his huge mouth was all it took and she’d stop). He had a heat stroke last summer and weren’t able to save him.

When we have a bigger house, I’d like to get another one. Shedding is the biggest problem though!

  7. Off Topic - Dag…I just saw y’all’s tickers on the side…is that for Sven? I had just read Carly’s post and saw Julie’s name on the list and was going to mention it. Then I glanced over and saw your tickers.

Julie - you’ve got a great jump start!!!

Do you mind telling me where you found your tickers. I have one on my RWA marathon posts but I can’t add another and I’d like one for this, to keep them seperate.

  9. Yes, Jodie, Sven. Here’s hoping there’s no I’m actually starting with 21,440. Just haven’t had it inputted yet.

your huge golden sounds like Buddy. he thinks he’s a lapdog too. All 40 pounds of him. I can’t imagine a Golden that acts the same way, LOL.

My daughter Jen says all dogs are cute in their own way.

  10. I love collies. Growing up, we had a total “Lassie” collie (sable). Then, my folks got a tri-color. Currently, they have another Lassie one. I’d love to get a tri-color. I love the looks of the blue merles, though.

  11. I love dachshunds. I had a black and tan one growing up named George, in fact my family all call dachshunds George dogs. I think the best dog we ever owned growing up was our dog Sneaky. He looked like a small black lab and got his name because my parents put him in our fenced in back yard and he found the way out. He even went back in and showed the other puppy we got for my cousin how to get out of the yard. He would actually meet my brother and I at the school to walk home with us at the end of the day.

  13. Growing up, we always had a Heinz 57 kind of dog. Mutts and mixed breeds. I always wanted a Golden Retriever, but one day about 5 years ago my sister-in-law found a stray and wanted us to take her in. So, we did, and yes she’s a mixed breed: Golden Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, and German Shepherd. She’s about 37 pounds and such a big love-bug.

  15. I am a major dog lover. I love all dogs. Period. I remember all of the dogs I’ve owned and loved since my time on this earth. The one that sticks in my mind the most is Smudge, an English Springer Spaniel I had back in the seventies. We ended up having to put her down. Every time I think about her my heart breaks and I get very sad so I try not to. When my time comes I hope she will be one of the first to greet me.

Since I met my husband we have owned dachshunds. Our little brown child at present is called Spike. He is a red dachshund and turned 12 on Friday. Talk about a lover. He is the gentlest sweetest boy.

I’m getting all teary now so I’ll sign off. Have a great day everyone.

  16. I have a big black Lab. Rather, he owns me.

You see, Jake was found at a gas station in the middle of the night by my husband. He was coming home from work one night and stopped off for milk & bread. The woman working in the store came out and said that someone had pulled up in a pick-up, told the dog to get out, sit, and stay and then drove off. (At this point, the dog was sitting by my husband offering his paw.) Jake’s been with us ever since.

He’s extremely spoiled. When he rides in the car, he’s in the front seat. He has his own La-Z-Boy, enjoys bubble baths and has been known to eat an entire bag of Dorito’s if left to his own accord. He follows me all around the house (even when I hide in the bathroom for a shower) and only barks when the doorbell rings. When we got him 8 years ago, the vet estimated his age to be about 6 or 7, so he’s a little up there in years. He has the cutest white goatee, and still acts like he’s puppy. Best dog I’ve ever had. And he has NEVER growled at anyone or gone garbage-can surfing.

Now, if you ask my husband, the English Bulldog is the best breed. Maybe that’s because it’s his favorite college team mascot. Maybe it’s because both him and the breed are known for their snoring. I’m not sure.

  18. Personally I like toy poodles. Nice topic for today Carly. DH and I are considering getting a dog. I had previously told him no way, not until Emily was potty trained. She finally figured it out a couple of months ago so now the dog topic is back on the table. I just don’t want to deal with a lot of pet hair. Does anyone know of dogs besides poodles that don’t shed?
    Thanks.

  19. Since getting our Yorkie Macbeth 3 years ago I’m partial to Yorkies they are so smart that they are scary and loveable too, Macbeth gives the best kisses and loves to snuggle in your lap, he really is my baby and the best dog That said my husband had a neopolitan mastiff when he was young and really would like to get one, but I’m afraid it would eat my Macbeth

  20. OMG Leslie, Thank goodness your husband was there when that man dropped Jake off. And LUCKY Jake!

Kelly, we are a hypoallergenic household. If you were here a year or so ago you’ll remember Dylan the cavalier we had for one week and then my hubby had an asthma attack. Poodles, Wheatens, poodle-mixes (all those new breeds although I personally would be afraid to trust it b/c giving a dog away hurts!) … I know you can look it up online. What size dog are you looking for?

  21. Jodie, we got the counters from Alison Kent, who takes care of the code on Plotmonkeys for us. I can copy the code for you, but I don’t know if it’s just a plug in for Wordpress or what. I have no idea.

Yes, I’m doing Sven, too. In fact, I need to get to work. Have been at the pediatrician with my daughter all morning. She’s okay, but still requires attention.

I meant to tell you that you inspired me to join up. I have to get this book done. No ifs, ands or buts!

  24. Julie - Not sure how I inspired you, but so glad I could be of help to you in some way. I will never be able to repay you or tell you how much you’ve helped me.

Glad your daughter is okay! I was just leaving the library and thinking, “Gee, this is not a very good way to start Sven. I can’t take one of my days off on my first day!” :wallbash: Hubby has to go back to work tonight so I will some how, some way get those word counts done for today.

And I’ll just revamp my ticker for KIA - thanks for the offer. Time to crack that whip! (I don’t know about you but that banana doesn’t scare me in the least!) :giggle:

  25. What a good topic for a rainy day (in my area)!

I grew up with black labs, great family dog. After I married we had several mixed breed dogs including a registered St. Bernard, not mixed!, the dog I had the longest was Millie a mixed poodle & maybe Maltese (the vet’s guess) she was such a sweetie & a wonderful dog. Now I have no dog, not allowed where I live. I do take care of other people’s dogs when they go on vacation. Right now I’m taking care of Annie and poodle/collie mix. She is a fun little dog & I’m enjoying her. I get my dog fix without owning one. There are also two cats that live with Annie & her owners!!

  26. I have always had chihuahuas and i give my dogs full names. Tje last 2 I named Pete Mitchell and Harley Jackson. I now have a Jack Russell terrier that i got as a present. WOW major high maintenance in keeping up with him, he sheds, and he destroys my paperback books if i happen to lay them down in his space. But can’t help loving him.

  28. Our favorite dogs are boxers and dachshunds. We have one boxer and two soon to be three dachshunds on Oct 30.

The boxer is mother hen to all the others, we were so surprised with that since he is usually pretty aggressive.

    Might want to try: http://www.dogchannel.com

  30. I love ALL dogs but six years ago I adopted a Shetland Sheepdog and I instantly fell in love. Misty Rose is the love of my life and I couldn’t imagine life without her. She is a big sheader so I have to groom her constantly. She uses more hair care products than I do. But what I do for her she gives back a hundred times in puppy love.

  35. Jodie- Shedding with Labs is usually a sign of a thyroid problem. Mine is on meds for it, and the shedding has stopped. Keep that in mind next time.

I have had several breeds and mutts. I love them all.

My current lab/hound mix was a rescue- he was no longer a cute puppy and the owners let him wander outside, unfed and unsupervised, in the trailer park behind out Elks Lodge. That winter of ‘01 was brutal, and I took him home with me. I have never had such a wonderful dog as him- he is the politest, most loveable, easy going guy.

And then there is our wire-haired mini doxi. Isis is also a rescue from the doxie rescue group. She is as outgoing as he is introverted. Charlie, the lab, loves any other animal. Our cats, other dogs wandering around. He doesn’t care. Isis, on the other hand, has a Napoleon complex, but is so funny.

I call her our alarm system, while he is the stelth alarm. When Charlie barks, we listen, he does it so seldom.

Right now, Isis is behind me on the couch making faces because the new kitten is sitting on my shoulder. They are in the process of making friends with each other. As long as the kitten stays off our bed. That is dog territory.

The kitten is sitting in front of the screen, shasing the bouncing icons and the mouse arrow while I type. This is not easy.

  37. I wanted a Corgi but, somehow, we ended up with a Boxer.

We got her when she was a puppy and have had her 4 years this past summer. I can’t imagine having another dog. She is the BEST thing with the kids.

She LOVES kids and she LOVES to play. She also loves to try to sit in my lap. The goofball. LOL

She’s also an inside dog, so I tell everyone we have a horse in our house.

I just posted a couple of pics of her on my blog http://www.lilcinny.com/Blog.

Can you say which kid is your favorite? LOL As a dog groomer for over 20 years my favorites to groom were Schnauzers and Shih Tzus.

I do so love the little ones. Mostly cause they are just the right size to snuggle and hug and just go crazy over. So much nicer to hold when they dont weigh a ton LOL

Mo….heading over to subscribe to the puppy digest thingy
