Bailey - Look What They’ve Done to Me Now

Carly Icon

They spayed me. Took my insides. Major abdominal surgery.
Then they put a cone on my head.
They drug me and say it’s for my own good.
My belly itches. I try to scratch. My foot quivers. I can’t reach. WAAH!

But something good happened from this. I found out that BUDDY LOVES ME. HE REALLY LOVES ME.
How do I know? Well, Mom keeps me locked in the crate more because I’m not allowed to run around because they’re afraid I’m going to open my stitches. But instead of going upstairs with Mom, Buddy stays in the kitchen with me, near my crate. He watches over me. ALL DAY. Can you believe it?
Hey Buddy! I you!

Does anyone know when Mom can let me run around the backyard without a leash? Tuesday is one week. The Vet said 10 - 14 days but I’m losing my mind!!!!!

Mom asked me to remind you: SEALED WITH A KISS is on sale now.

In case you missed the last 100 times she told you.

PS: CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of Janelle Denison & Leslie Kelly’s “shared scene” contest!! The grand prize winner was Stephanie Newell. Runner ups were: Katelyn Screws and Tammy Booker.

That was lots of fun and we really hope our readers enjoyed being in on “our little secret” too!

  1. Bailey is getting so big! And she’s losing that teddy bear look and looking more and more like Buddy! She’s too cute, even with the cone!

  2. Congrats Katelyn and Tammy!!

Carly I don’t remember when we had our dog spayed, but I remember when we did our cat! She somhow got out of her crate the night they did it and hid in one of the drawers of a desk. They didn’t find her until mid-afternoon. She’d pulled some of her stitches loose and was wrapped really, really tight in this bandage so she couldn’t hardly stand or walk.

We’d had her fronts de-clawed at the same time and she was so pitiful. That was the day my I-hate-cats-hubby melted and the next thing I knew the cat was sleeping in the bed between us.

  3. AWWWWWW, Jodie! Poor kittie!

I just can’t stand that spaying comes in btw housebreaking, so you can’t figure how they’re doing, they’re getting so much more crate time, and they hate it, she whines all the time in there … if she’s out she’s making ME miserable, watching that back paw shake trying to get to her tummy! :

  4. Awww poor Bailey. Buddy is being so good to his sister. Hang in there Carly. I couldn’t tell you because we haven’t had our Buddy neutered yet and he just turned one year.

    Comment by Michelle — October 1, 2007 @ 7:19 am

  5. We were lucky when we had our cats spayed. Since they were also declawed (front only), our vet keeps them for a week until the paws heal, which means they weren’t going after their stitches either. they got all the “fun”!

And before any animal lover shouts cruelty cause we get them declawed- I don’t have a choice. Hubby is a diabetic and gets cat scratch fever if he is scratched. We can’t afford- i don’t mean monetarily- to have him get an infection.

thankfully, both dogs were fixed when we got them. although trying to watch a doxie scratch themselves is

congrats to the winners of the contest.

  6. She looks precious even with the cone. Hugs to Bailey! And double hugs to Buddy for hanging with her!

    Comment by Jaci Burton — October 1, 2007 @ 8:21 am

  7. You will hear no hard words on the declawing from me Ev.
My daughter has type 1 diabetes and she has a hard time healing, too.

You just had to know that Buddy has been putting on an act all this time.
It takes a crisis for him to show his soft side. Him being an Alpha male- he man -woman -hater kinda guy.

poor Bailey, i feel for her. I still remember spaying my doggie Bridgette 8 years ago. I wouldn’t even let here go up and down the steps with out me carring here and she weighed around 40 lbs at the time.Like you I din’t want her to rip her stitches and herniate something.

Oh, and Carly I’ve already read Sealed with a Kiss. Loved it. like I always enjoy your stories.

  8. Bailey looks so cute(even with the cone). Big hugs to Buddy for being such a great big brother!!!

    Comment by Liza — October 1, 2007 @ 8:28 am

  9. I can’t blame you for declawing! Totally get it.

Michelle, if you’re going to neuter, do it ASAP so he doesn’t mark/lift his leg. If you’re not going to do it, no worries!

I’m carrying her upstairs too! Up and down. She’s about 21 pounds of wriggling fur. :giggle:

    Thanks for the SWAK compliments!

  10. Awww poor Bailey! It’s great that Buddy is so sympathetic - that’s so cute!

Congrats to the winners of Janelle and Leslie’s shared scene contest - Stephanie, Katelyn & Tammy! That’s a great prize! I’m so envious!

Carly, I was out shopping last Wednesday to buy SWAK and it wasn’t in the Waldenbooks or Borders that I went to.
I was so disappointed, but not for long… I’m ordering it from Amazon and I should have it soon.

    Comment by Carolyn A. — October 1, 2007 @ 9:13 am

  11. Awww Bailey, I know you’re not feeling that great right now but soon, you’ll be back to normal and life will be great! How cool is it that Buddy is staying to watch over you. See big brother’s really do love the little ones. Just one thing to remember. Once you’re better he’ll probably be back to normal. That’s okay, cause you know what he really feels.

Oh yeah, guess what, Bailey? I’m giving away a copy of your mom’s book SWAK this week on my blog. Tell everyone to stop by and leave a comment. That’s all they have to do. I’ve read the arc and wow, your mom really knows how to write. Love the book!!!

  12. Jeannie, Don and Zoey in sorta No. Western Maine,

    Congratulations to the winners!

Poor Bailey glad you finally know Buddy really loves you.

So sorry you have the cone but it’s for your own good.

Pretty soon it will be Zoey’s turn. Gulp.

Be a good girl and rest. Soon you’ll be out in the yard chasing leaves.

Zoey thought it would be a great idea to take “pinker digger” with us on

vacation. We have a camera and are taking pictures of Pinker’s adventures

to send to Carly when we get home.

I am reading SEALED WITH A KISS and it was worth the wait Carly.

Should be done with it but having sinus problems so reading time is very

    limited.

Hugs to everyone time to have brunch and go see some colorful foliage.

  13. Awww, Bailey, bless his heart. He is so cute even with that cone on his head. Give him a hug and kiss for me.

Sealed with a Kiss came in the mail the other day. As soon as I finish the current book I’m reading, it’s next in line.

Take care all and have a wonderful day,

    Cher

BTW I finally found Sealed with a Kiss at Borders over the weekend. I also moved it to a higher shelves so others could find it more easily.

  15. Oh, poor little cutie! She looks so sad with that cone on her head…

I remember when we had Cassie done, she was so pathetic, too. We just had to have her teeth cleaned last week–and they removed 3 of them–and she was just so miserable for a few days!

    Comment by Leslie — October 1, 2007 @ 11:13 am

  16. Awww Bailey you poor baby , hang in there a few more days and you will be out running with Buddy

  19. Oh, that’s so cute of Buddy. But poor Bailey. Hope she will get healthy soon. wish her the best from me I love the pictures. These dogs are so cute it’s unbelievable. If I knew somebody who had similar ones, I would be there immediately.
I’m really sorry what she has to go through at the moment. Hope it’ll be over soon.

    See you

  20. So, so sorry Bailey! I hope they let you run free soon.

    Comment by Kelly H — October 1, 2007 @ 12:54 pm

  21. Carly - what do you mean about him marking/lifting his leg? You mean when he goes to the bathroom? He does lift his leg.

    Comment by Michelle — October 1, 2007 @ 12:55 pm

  22. Bailey says to tell you all I gave her Benadryl now that she’s off pain killers and I’m hoping that’ll take the edge off the itch that seems to be driving her crazy!

Michelle, yes, I mean lifting his leg to pee. The vets seem to recommend neutering before they start doing that … for your sake more than theirs, LOL.

    Comment by Carly — October 1, 2007 @ 1:51 pm

  23. Congratulations to the three winners of Leslie & Janelle’s contest. Great prizes for all of you.
Carly, Bailey & Buddy are so cute. Thanks for the pictures. I’m sure Bailey will be better soon.

  24. I’ve never had a dog spayed, but I have had two cats in the past and it was so sad. I remember one of them looking at me like I was evil and wouldn’t let me near him for a few days. Good luck to you and him.

    Comment by Amber — October 1, 2007 @ 2:22 pm

  25. Leslie - I thought it was your daughter that had 3 teeth removed last week!

  26. Bailey looks so cute in her cone!

    Comment by Estella — October 1, 2007 @ 4:18 pm

  27. Get well soon Bailey. Sorry it took a cone on your head to realize that Buddy loves you. BTW, I’ve been in two Borders since Tuesday looking for Sealed With A Kiss and haven’t been able to find it. Granted, one was the one in the Orlando Airport and in the middle of no where in NJ. … I’m going to have to assume that people are just buying it before I show up … :wallbash:

  30. lol Jodie–nope, daughter had three CAVITIES not three extractions.

    Grr…

    Comment by Leslie — October 1, 2007 @ 8:24 pm

  31. awwww Bailey! I feel for ya hun…but glad big brother Buddy is there protecting you ;-)

Never had to go thru the cone thing….I have all boys LOL And we got Gillie from the shelter and he was already neutered. Our biggest thing with the cats was the declawing….yes we’re diabetics here too so have to watch the healing. It was horrid having to use shredded paper instead of litter for a couple weeks till their pads closed up.

We got the kitties done before they started “marking territory” aka peeing on everything and anything they can pee on. So they enjoyed the extra loving they got when they came home…we held them a lot then Can we say spoiled? LOL

pssssst everyone not finding SWAK in Borders….bet it went on the shelves today…cause Borders goes with the october 1st date….

Of course I already read the ARC and loved it!!! Especially loved Molly’s grandmother and the bird ;-)

  34. Contrats to the winners!!!

Oh Bailey! I hope you feel better soon!!! And yep, I have my copy of SWAK.

We had our dog spayed a few years ago. We went on vacation and while we had her kenneled we had her fixed. (I know–bad dog parents ) By the time we picked her (about a week after we left her) she was all heeled and back to her rotten but adorable self.
