I’m amazed by how many people put grave digger/funeral director, etc. as the job they wouldn’t want to do. Believe me, I’m right there with you. I have no desire to be a part of that business either. But it was a nice reminder as to what a wonderful and special person hubby is. Because it does take a special person to do that job.
Although, he always said he would never do it either, but for a different reason. The hours they have to work are incredible and his dad was never around and for that reason he always swore not to do it. Then a sweet widow who needed help allowed him to see if differently and so he did.

Jodie, your hubby has to be very special indeed, for many reasons.
I think for me, I wouldn’t be able to stand the job for the same reason I couldn’t stand being a cancer doctor or a soldier. The constant slap in the face of tragic death and grief and loss has to be overwhelming. He must be a wonderful guy!

Leslie, don’t know if you’ll see this or not, but I’m with you. Sometimes on holidays I have to go down and help type obits because they’re short staffed. But I absolutely refuse to answer the phones. I told them if I answer and there is someone going to pieces on the other end of the line, I’ll be going to pieces with them. Absolutely no use at all.
But hubby looks at it a different way. He knows that he’s doing the only thing that can be done to help families out at a terrible time. Sometimes its almost more than he can handle - like last year when our son’s roomate (who is like a son to us) lost his aunt and 2 cousins in a horrible car accident. The family is so close to us that it took a real toll on him and he spent a couple days in bed with the blankets pulled up over his head.
But that doesn’t happen often (thankfully) and he always feels as if he’s done a real service for someone that needs some help.
