3. AN EXCLUSIVE PLOTMONKEYS EXCERPT of CROSS MY HEART:
*****

Lacey had been looking forward to some down time all day. Time that didn’t include worrying about her business or dissecting her feelings for Alex, the man currently in her life.

Half an hour later, she was wrapped in a terry robe and scrambling eggs, enjoying the low hum of music and cooking in her own kitchen, when the doorbell rang. Digger immediately began her obsessive barking and ran for the door.

Lacey sighed. She could only hope Alex hadn’t decided to pay her a visit to talk things over. Shutting the burner on the stove, she moved the frying pan away from the heat.

Then she stepped up to her door and glanced through the peep hole. Alex had blonde hair and wore suits or buttoned shirts. The guy outside her door had long dark hair, an old jean jacket slung over his shoulder and looked eerily familiar.

She blinked and focused on the man once more, recognition dawning. Oh. My. God. Ty.

With shaking hands, she opened her apartment door. “Ty?” she stupidly asked. She’d know him anywhere. She saw him not only in her memories, but in her dreams.

He nodded but before he could reply, Digger began sniffing at Ty’s feet and nudged his leg with her nose, begging for attention.

“Digger, off!” Lacey chided but the dog didn’t listen.

Lacey had always thought she could judge a man by his reaction to a dog, and she grinned when Ty bent down and pet Digger’s head. Ty obviously hadn’t changed. He still had a soft spot for those in need, like she had been, Lacey thought. Which brought her back to the niggling question that lingered long after she’d left Hawken’s Cove. Had Ty felt those same crazy feelings of desire and young love she she’d felt for him or was she another stray, like Hunter, he’d taken under his wing and protected so well.

She glanced at Ty and realized in one quick instant that he still had the ability to affect her deep inside. Her emotions soared, from elation over seeing him again to a fuzzy warmth in her heart to a quickening in her belly that she hadn’t experienced in years.

Enjoying the attention from a stranger, Digger lifted her front paws onto his legs, begging for more.

“Okay, you shameless hussy. Leave Ty alone,” Lacey said, pulling the dog off of Ty.

“He’s a she?” Ty asked, obviously surprised.

Lacey nodded. “She doesn’t have a body any female would want, but she’s a sweetheart.”

“She doesn’t have a name any woman would want either,” he said, laughing.

His voice had grown deeper, she thought, the husky sound providing a rush in her veins.

“I found her digging in the trash, hence her name. The poor thing was starving. I took her in, fed her and tried to locate her owners. No luck.” She shrugged and scratched under Digger’s chin. “She’s been eating me out of house and home ever since.” Digger was Lacey’s in all her bad breath glory. She freed the dog’s collar. “Go!” she directed and the dog finally ran into the apartment.

Lacey edged back so Ty could enter and he stepped passed her, treating her to a whiff of warm, sexy cologne. Her body tightened at the unfamiliar, yet welcoming scent.

Once inside, she let the door slam shut and Ty turned to face her. He studied her without shame, his gaze swallowing her whole, his curiosity evident. She pulled the collar on her fluffy robe together but nothing could change the fact that beneath it she was nude.

Unable to resist, Lacey looked him over as well. He’d been a sexy kid when she’d seen him last. He’d matured in the last ten years. His shoulders were broader, his face leaner and a somberness lingered in his hazel eyes that ran deeper than she remembered. He was all male and drop dead gorgeous, Lacey thought.

And when he resettled his gaze on her face, she couldn’t mistake the slight smile that tilted his lips as he shoved his hands into the front pocket of his jeans. “You’re looking good,” he said at last.

Her face heated at the compliment. “You’re looking pretty good yourself.” She bit down on the inside of her cheek and wondered why he’d shown up now.

What exactly did fate, and the even more sexy Ty, have in store?

Be sure to let me know what you think!

5. BAILEY
On a more personal note, I’ve gotten some emails asking for more puppy pictures. Bailey had a visit from her brother, Oscar, on Friday. Shockingly they didn’t seem to recognize each other at first and it took a long time for them to warm up to one another. Once they did, they had a great time playing with each other and with Buddy, but whether it was because they were siblings or because they were just two dogs, I don’t know. I’d like to believe they knew one another though! Here’s a photo:

So that’s it for today … Thanks for listening to all the promo stuff. We Plotmonkeys are so grateful you visit us here. Remember to pick up CROSS MY HEART by Carly Phillips and SHE’S NO ANGEL by Leslie Kelly, in stores today!

  1. Oh yeah, another sexy excerpt. Sounds fabulous. I’m loving all these new releases

Aw, I can see Bailey’s good looks run in the family - what cuties.

  2. We got our son a kitten for Christmas, and our best friends got her sister. We got them from the Humane Society and every time I saw them they were hudled together. We thought it would be fun to get them together a week later so they could “play.”

Well…after 1 week they didn’t know each other, they hated each other, and our kitten beat up her sister! It was horrible and we were all traumatized!

B&N opens at 10:00 and I finish my workout at 10:00 so I should be there by 10:10. I don’t have any friends that read romance so I’m not sure how much luck I’ll have in getting a friend’s receipt, but can we send you our receipt alone, or do we have to have the friend’s receipt also?

Hope it’s a great day and you and Leslie don’t stress too much!!!

  3. I just wanted to leave a message for Leslie and Carly - RELAX!!!! They’re both absolutely incredible books, and anybody not smart enough to pick them up will be really missing something.

Okay, so I am a little biased, but it’s the truth.

  7. I got my 2

I went to make our bank deposits for work and luckily for me it is opposite

a waldenbooks. I appologized before asking cause the cart was so full and

they had just openned at 10. It took some hunting but they were

very gracious. I am now the proud owner of two paperback

“CROSS MY HEARTS” I was told in store that this book might not be

available everywhere until the 1st cause it is not a street date.

Whatever that means. Anyway if you guys don’t make best sellers list

(I find this so hard to believe) it won’t be my fault.

I am also going to buy a second book of

“SHE’S NO ANGEL” on pay day, Friday.

    Okay have to work now

  9. OK, partial success at B&N. They had “She’s No Angel” but they didn’t have “Cross My Heart.” They looked on the shelves with me but couldn’t find it so he put my name on a list to call when it comes in. If I don’t hear from them by Friday I’ll order it online.

    Have a great day!

  12. Carly & Leslie,
I’m so excited for both of you!! Ordered she’s no angel yesterday and pre-ordered Cross My Heart weeks ago, although I’ve already read it I’m actually looking forward to reading it again!
I wish you both success with your sales I know that you’ve both worked hard, and hope that now you can enjoy the reward!!

Carly have you finished Sealed with a Kiss yet? What was the release date again? Sorry, I’m just dying to read it.

    Leslie hope your feeling better!

  13. Just ordered Leslie’s “SHE”S NO ANGEL” AND “HEAT WAVE” (How many of you can say that?????). (I feel like we are all in a competition here….LOL!). Now, I will have THREE plotmonkey books in my TBR pile this summer (I won CMH). I think I might have a Janelle book somewhere that I haven’t read……now, I need to find a Julie book….LOL….Carly’s creating a FRENZY! :

I am on vacay tomorrow, but I will try to check in every once in awhile…have to visit the rellies….

  14. Jeannie - we must have been posting at the same time before. The terminology was confusing me : I wasn’t sure if we were only allowed to send in our receipt if we had referred a friend, or if anyone that bought the book could send in a receipt.

I’m not sure what time my receipt says but I was sitting in the parking lot reading when they opened. My pilates instructor was a no-show so I did the treadmill and got to the bookstore by 9:58. In fact, I was really surprised by all the people standing outside the door waiting to get in.

    Comment by Jodie — June 26, 2007 @ 11:36 am

  15. I am on my way to the bookstore, despite the rain.

I got to my mom’s sunday and now I will be reading……just like childhood all over again:mrgreen:

Can’t wait to see you both in the bestsellers!

    Comment by Debbie — June 26, 2007 @ 11:51 am

  16. Jodie if they are looking in todays releases they won’t find the book.
They had to go into the back room to bring out my 2.
    Something about a “street date.”

    :love2:CROSS MY HEART:love2:

But they did have the books in the back room at Waldenbooks

and so they must also have them at Borders.

Walmart sounds good you’d get two for less.

Think Carly’s :love2:contest is trying to promote more sales

with the friend buying a book.

I am sure 2 books on one receipt would be just fine.

KATIE: nothing wrong with a little friend oriented

    fun lovin competition.

    Hugs, :love2:

I am noticing no one else has or ordered HEAT WAVE by Leslie (okay, so she is part of a group)…….mine is on the way!

  26. Hi Carly,
First off, I wanted to say that I bought CMH in hard cover, and am impatient for SWAK to come out in September.

I also wanted to comment about Bailey’s play date with Oscar. I have an 11 month old Springer Spaniel, Callie Grace, and her brother Teddy lives about four blocks from us, so we see him often on our walks. Even though we pet parents try to get them to socialize, Teddy is very territorial and aggresive with Callie. He has no clue that they knew each other in a prior esistence. It’s kind of strange actually, because Callie gets along great with every other dog except him. He just does not like her! I’m glad that things finally warmed up between Bailey and her bro.

  27. If you have two receipts even two on one, send them in and just say it’s for another person. We’ll deal with it on our end!

Maybe a chat would be nice I’d like that.

As long as we can chit chat on the blog I don’t mind everyone

seeing our sillyness. I am doing fine had my annual cancer

screening last Monday and everything is still fine (WHEW!)

Thanks for asking after 2 bouts I really don’t want to ever

    have to deal with another

It does seem that we are like one big family here and I enjoy it all.

The good, the bad, the happy and the sad. I think we share well.

I mailed my entry today too. Only 1 receipt but with 2 cross my hearts.

I ordered tons of books (very small exaggeration) from Amazon last week.

Got 30.00 credit for getting their cc.

Worked for me. I have preordered everything thru September.

I am hoping a good bunch come in before I leave. Because of Carly I

spent a lot at Waldens this morning. I’m all set if none arrive.

    It’s a disease I tell you, a disease.

Pretty soon they’ll be having an episode on Jerry Springer or Oprah,

“”Old Lady’s husband wants to get wife to stop breaking the bank on

    books.” Can she be helped?

Today joined by the Plotmonkey authors and top

obsessive compulsive order expert, Brenda Chin.

With that cast, I am sure to get the right kind off help..

Who’ll drive me to the book store when the show’s over. :love2:

If a book is buy any of my top 12 (yup up from 10)

    I get-em no matter what.

Hugs Katie. I start vacay Thursday. Yahoo!

  32. My dad has a chocolate lab and she still plays pretty well with one of her brothers. They don’t see each other much anymore, but she always made sure she was in charge(and she was the runt of the litter too). As far as I know she has only ever seen one of her litter mates since my dad got her 7 years ago, but they get together about once every 6 months. I’m off work in just a little bit and heading to the bookstore.

I’d never take my pay check home.

Geech I am so excited about the big release day I can’t shut up.

If you haven’t ordered CROSS MY HEART and SHE”S NO ANGEL

    What are you waiting for????

Maybe dogs from the same littler aren’t supposed

to mate and not liking one another helps prevent that.

What do I know just guessing.

They are sooo cute. I miss my baby I need another baby.

  35. Jeannie - so glad to hear that your health report was positive - that is fantastic news!!

Cherylann - no Borders…no Walden’s…no anything other than B&N. And we searched every section of B&N - myself and one of the guys that works there. He looked at the computer and finally said, “Well, if I have it it would be with her other books.” I knew it wasn’t there because I had just spent the last 2 minutes fixing Carly’s other books! They had gotten mixed in with Susan Elizabeth Phillips so I put them all back together (on the top shelf)!

If I get desperate I’ll go to Wally World but in my town that is an absolute last resort. I have seen Carly’s books at my Sam’s Club - that’s actually the first place I ever bought one of her books - so I’ll try to get there on Thurs. when I’m back in town.

  37. Hi Carly~ Bought two copies of Cross My Heart and two copies of She’s No Angel! Most of my close friends don’t read romance and one of them has a birthday this weekend so I decided I’d give her two great books to read and hopefully get her hooked (how could she not?) So then the thought struck me - whenever a friend has a birthday I’m just gonna start giving them romance novels and slowly but surely I’ll grow the Plot Monkey’s followers

BTW - The other copies are for me. I can’t wait to read them! Best wishes for a best selling summer!

  46. Hi,

Picked up both Leslie’s and Carly’s books from my local Chapters store in Canada on the 22nd! Needless to say I didn’t get much done last weekend. Leslie, I loved your book (as always!) I like the “mystery/suspense” side of your writing just as much as I love the romance side. I’m looking forward to July 10th as the store has promised me they’d keep a copy of Heat Wave for me. Absolutely love the Trouble characters! I’m about to start Carly’s book - bet I won’t get much done this weekend either LOL! Ahh…summertime!
