Anyone who likes to read.
Post it “hither and yon” (ode to Carla here!)

Mark JUNE 26 on your calendar. (It’s a Tuesday if you didn’t know)
Hit the bookstores whether or not you own the hardcover. Why? I’m hoping because you like me. Because you really like me (to quote Sally Field). Or because you feel sorry for me that I’m resorting to begging. That’s OK. I don’t mind your reasons. I’d just be grateful that you spent your hard earned money on me.
And because I’m grateful: Pay attention because special things are coming your way as I promote this book!

****
So tell me, do you like book videos?
What do you think of mine?
I’m head over heels in love with it which makes me just a little biased.

  1. I’ll have to go check it out.

I think they’re kinda fun to watch, though I must admit I like to be able to visualize the characters the way I see them in my mind, not how the trailers portray them. I prefer to leave something to my imagination because that’s one of the biggest attractions about reading, at least it is to me.

And I don’t use videos to help me select a book - the book does that on its own.

  2. Naturally I will be buying it to add to the Carly Collection. I have all the rest. I did read it from the library in HC though. I don’t have enough room any more to buy and store HC’s. Besides I get more pb’s that way.

  3. oops, the video too. Was there sound? My laptop from hell doesn’t seem to want to do sound- unless I don’t want it to. sigh I don’t worry about the video’s affecting what I think they characters should look like- I tend to not remember what the people in them looked like to begin with. Bad girl, I know.

  4. It’s great! I agree with Stacy, to some degree. I don’t mind having a visual of the characters before I read the book, but once I’ve already got them set in my mind it makes it difficult for me to resolve.

Like from yesterday’s post - I love Morelli and Ranger, and I have them firmly pictured in my mind. If they do ever make the movie it will probably ruin it for me.

The only other “book movie” I’ve seen was Kimberly Raye’s for Dead and Dateless. She used the cover from the book and didn’t have any faces in it to throw a kink in visualization.

I think they’re a great idea. Another great way to market the product and I don’t think there can ever be too many, or too different a way to do that!

  5. Ev, there’s sound. I picked it myself. Maybe you’ll get it to work at some point!

    Thanks all

  6. Oh Jeannie - I forgot to tell you happy birthday last night in my last post. So sorry, so here’s a big belated birthday greeting!!!

  7. I liked the video lots! I already had pictures of the characters in my mind, so the video won’t change much there, but the video and the music were really good. I haven’t really seen a lot of videos for books until just recently, but I kind of like the way they promote the books. There are certain authors I will buy no matter what, but have found a few new ones with the video ads on tv. I will be at the bookstore on June 26 too. I actually read from the library, but can’t wait to add it to my collection.

  8. Jeannie- I forgot the Happy B’day too!!!!

Jodie- Have you ever done the poll on the Janet site as to who should play who in the movie. If they ever do it (before she is too old) I think Sandra Bullock is still the front runner!! That’s the only person I ever see when I picture Stephanie in my mind.

  9. I just borrowed the new Charlaine Harris from work, so I am going to go sit outside and read. Then contemplate doing some actual work around here. Everyone will be here for the long weekend and this place is a dirty, dusty dump. The dogs keep bringing in mud from all the rain and my floors are in desperate need. Thank god tile is easy to clean!!

  10. Love the video, Carly!

And since I have a book being released the very same day as yours, I am also REALLY hoping that everyone will leave the jungle and go to the book store on June 26!

    Comment by Leslie — May 22, 2007 @ 10:20 am

  11. Carly, LOVE the trailer. I really liked the clouds at the beginning. I have never seen a book video before, and I enjoyed it immensly.:love2:

I cannot wait until June 26. Unfortunately, duie to finacial reasons I can only usually buy paperback, so I missed this originally. I cannot wait to get it. I will be in AR visiting my mom that week and I just know she will be nagging me because I am buying yet another book but oh well.

    Have a super day!

    Comment by Debbie — May 22, 2007 @ 10:22 am

  12. I sure will be buying the book as soon as i see it.. no begging needed..lol..
as for book video? ive never watched one.. i guess i will have to try it.. i just buy books that catch my eye.. covers and name recognition… thats my trigger…
the more you promote a book and beat that title into me, the more likely i will see it and buy it..
    cant wait to read it..

  13. Yay, Leslie, you answered a question I had this morning but didn’t want to ask. I had been searching Amazon and B&N online to see what your release date was but didn’t find it listed anywhere

Ev - I haven’t seen that poll but I’ll go check it out. I can see Sandra Bullock as Stephanie. Definitely. She’s one of my favorite actresses and she’d be great in that role. Still not sure though that I want an actual picture of Ranger and Morelli, other than the dreamy ones I have in my mind.

Even the audio versions of those books have taken a little of the magic away from me. I can’t stand the voice they gave Ranger. They make him sound…dumb…ooohh, how cool! A deer just went bouncing through my yard! (no, I’m not ADD) But I’ll go check out that poll.

  14. Wonderful video! I love trailers and even bought a book by an author that was new to me based on the trailer (really enjoyed the book). I can’t wait to get my hands on this book!

    Your book too, Leslie!

    Comment by Susan — May 22, 2007 @ 11:01 am

  15. I love the trailer. I loved the book. I have it in HB but will be buying in trade as well. I think that you hit the essence of the book on the mark. I’m ready to read it again.

For anyone out there who has not read this, trust me it will be on your will read again and again shelf.

  17. I love the book videos, but I have dial up (I am TOO CHEAP to get high speed…lol!), so I will wait until this weekend when hubby brings home his laptop and I can see it. The only other one I have seen was the one that was posted here awhile ago…PERFECT STRANGER, I think….WHEW…HOT, HOT, HOT!

    Comment by katie — May 22, 2007 @ 12:03 pm

  18. Happy Belated Birthday, Jeannine Usually, I check the blogs after the boys go to bed, but I was having trouble voting for APOLO and JOEY, such as luck…..you would think that hubby would have convinced me to get high speed by now…LOL!

    Comment by katie — May 22, 2007 @ 12:07 pm

  19. Although it’s well done–best wishes on the new release, Carly!–I’m not sure about book videos. They do what movies do, take away some of the opportunity for reader imagination.

The music sets a certain atmosphere. The models cement a picture in the reader’s mind. What if they turn the reader off?

I think I’ll probably do as I do with movies. If I’m really interested, I make sure I read the book before I see the movie. More enjoyment that way.

But I like the idea that authors are embracing new technology as a means to publicize their works and attract sales. Can’t have it both ways though so maybe I’m just too old school.

  20. Hi Carly~ I think book videos are okay - they don’t sway me to buy a book or not. But I did like yours. Since I haven’t read Cross My Heart (I’ll be at B&N on the 26th - to buy yours too Leslie) yet, the words and music conveyed a tone that definitely got me excited about reading it.

I will definitely spread the word, keep my fingers crossed, and put my two cents in - even to the stranger standing next to me perusing the romance aisles at the book store. Thanks for sharing what it’s like leading up to the realease of a book.

  21. Like your book video and watch them whenever a author has one on her website, but I have to admit, they very seldom figure into whether I will purchase a book or not.

  22. I love the video, Carly! Even though I’ve already read the book it made me want to read it again.

  23. Hi everyone and thanks for all the birthday greetings.

    Carly,

I like the video and yes i’ll buy the softcover even though I bought the hc.

    Ev,

I bought the audio book fr one of the plms and oh yuk.

I agree I have such great images of Morelli and Ranger,

I’m not sure any actor can do them justice.

We sure do take our characters seriously around here, huh?

Hugs to all and a little fun to share. Don put up a hummingbird feeder

here this morning and we have at least 3 hummingbirds already.

They are fun to watch and gave us big smiles as we sat on the glider

this afternoon. Best $5 I’ve ever spent at wally world.

Guess we’ll have to buy more juice tomorrow.

A little red Koolaid maybe. Hugs to all..

  24. Jeannie - try sugar water and red food coloring. I can’t remember the ratio of water/sugar but you can find it with a quick online search. It’s great if you don’t have the premixed stuff and don’t want to look a lonely, empty feeder.

  25. I’ve been writing and out today … thanks for the participation. And I’m so glad you all like the trailer.

For me, I like to watch the short/snappy fast paced ones. I prefer stills to live people but think I’m weird that way.

    Comment by Carly — May 22, 2007 @ 6:18 pm

  26. I did watch the trailer. I have to say that is the first time that I’ve watched anything like that before. I did like it but I guess that I am more of a visual type person.

But I do think that by watching the trailer and then reading the book cover, will make it that much more interesting for people to pick it up and read it.

Although, if it is one of your books, I’m going to go out and buy it anyway.

  27. This is a question from what we were talking about yesterday. I just finished watching Crossing Jordan on Tape. Those of you that said that it would not be returning, how do you know this information?

I just hate to think that this is the way that they would end the show.

    Comment by Tina Byrd — May 22, 2007 @ 7:01 pm

  28. Carly I am sure you don’t have to beg us to buy your book. I will be at the bookstore that day to get my copy.

I will have to check it out movie

    We love you Carly

  29. Happy Belated B-day Jeannine

  30. Jeannie- it all depends on who is doing the Plum books. She has one reader who i just love to listen to and has cemented the visual and audio of the characters in my mind. There is another who just sucks.

Tina- go to TVGUIDE.com. You can sign up for the newsletters and daily stuff and know what is going on. Michael Ausiello’s report and interviews are always a font of information. He definately knows what is going on.

  31. Jeannie, my mother used to have hummingbird feeders and I remember her sitting and staring out the window at them for hours with a lovely, soft smile on her face. I definitely plan to get one for my new house now that we’re back up in MD.

  32. Wow cool video Carly!!
And I think its great that both Carly and Leslie have books coming out on the same day!! Especially now that all the tv shows are ending… this is the time that I go through books like water.
On an American Idol note…Jordon get’s my vote She really is incredible!!
