From Bailey’s Point of View
They say I look like a teddy bear. They call me an angel to my face. Behind my back they call me psycho dog. What do they expect? I’m a PUPPY. They took me from my mommy and my brothers and sisters and handed me to these wacko ladies at an airport. Then they put me in a bag with a diaper at the bottom of it. They call it a wee wee pad. What? Do they think I’m stupid? Then they took me home in a car – that was kind of nice. Every five minutes on the dot they played pass the puppy – and handed me off from person to person to cuddle with. I liked that.
Then we pulled into a driveway and they brought out a dog that looked like my dad except with short hair. They called him Buddy. Dumb name, but since I’m Bailey now, who am I to make fun of him? They lock me in a crate and all I can do is stare across at Buddy in his crate all night. What fun.
Then they take me out and drag me outside where its either cold, or wet, and tell me to “do business.” What the heck does that mean? I pee and they pat me on the head. I poop and they yell “good girl.” Who knew bodily functions could elicit such praise?
Three days passed and I finally got used to this new place and then they took me to another new place and left me with Buddy for three days. I have to admit that wasn’t so terrible since I got to run and play with Buddy. But then to feed me they’d take me away from him and I wasn’t happy. Trust me, I let them know it. I’m female. I make my opinions known. Loudly.
I had my first bath and they clipped my nails and the hair near certain unmentionable places. Why do I get no dignity? Then the crazy ladies picked me up again. I liked coming home. They made a fuss about me. Buddy plays with me.
And they take me to puppy training class where guess what they offered me as treats? CAT FOOD. Is that the stupidest thing you ever heard? Giving a dog cat food? The second time my new mommy and little sister brought me hot dogs. YUMMY. I can get into this puppy training. They tell me to “come” and they give me food. They tell me to “lay” and they give me food. I pee on their floor and my mommy cleans it up. What a life!
I share my water with Buddy. I bend down to drink and what does the big lug do? He paws my head face first into the bowl. I was soaking wet but I showed him. I took his favorite bone – and guess what? He’s too scared to take it back. He looks at mom for help but she tells him to get some balls. Impossible, so lucky me, I keep the toy. Sometimes he brings it up on the couch so I can’t reach. I jump up and fall backwards. For now.
What do you think Buddy will do when I can actually reach him and his bone? Hmm …
All in all, I think I have a very good life here. I hope my new family feels the same way.
The only problem is I seem to have a slight problem holding my bodily functions and even though I’m from a breeder, I sometimes … ummm … go in the crate. Mom made the crate smaller. I find a corner anyway.
Mom wants to know if you have any suggestions? (My birthday is March 11 so I’m really a baby. Maybe she’s expecting too much of me? Still, I hold it most of the night. Why do I have a problem during the day?)

I have no suggestions, Bailey, girl. I was five months when I went to live with my family was…what’s the horrendous term?…ah, yes…”house broken” in about a week. I’ve never done anything in my crate I’d then have to sleep with. Perhaps you need to come have etiquette lessons with me? I’m quite spoiled, you know, but as a Princess to the original Princess and the Queen herself, I learn from the best.
But all that love and attention! I’m sure you’ll catch on.
:doggie: Lady…aptly named.

I offer my sympathies - I have no pets that can give Bailey advice. She sure is a cutie though. I like that she’s opinionated LOL.

Sorry, no advise on that either. We’ve never had a dog that would go in the crate. I thought that was a sure fire method.
Julie, your Lady makes me think of my sister-in-laws dog. We had a golden retriever named Bailey (he looked like Baileys Irish Cream), now we have a dog named Scotch and my SIL’s dog is Miller after the beer - maybe we have a problem.
Sorry…on a tangent..anyway, our golden was all boy, rowdy, and even when brushed, his hair was curly and wild, out of control looking. My SIL’s golden has straight, perfect beautiful hair. She sits like a princess, she looks down her nose at you. Isn’t it funny how dogs of the same breed are so completely different?

I actually want to apologize for those of you who are sick of hearing about my :doggie: and
I was blank when it came to a blog today and my 11 year old reminded me at 10 last night by asking what I wrote about! Ack! I hadn’t written my blog at all! So thank you for putting up with two dog blogs in a row from me!

Congrats on your new baby
I went through this a couple of years ago and here’s what worked for me. Every time Bailey eats, drinks, or plays, take her outside to pee afterwards. The moment she wakes up, take her out to pee. Every half hour, take her out to pee. As soon as she does her business, bring her back in. It won’t take long until her puppy bladder gets stronger.

I never realized how mean Lady looks in that picture. She’s really a sweetheart! Wants everyone to love and adore her…like any Princess, really. Now the dog before her? He was mean. God, I miss him.
Carly, you’re a new momma. I think everyone understands the doggie posts!
Comment by Julie Leto — May 15, 2007 @ 8:06 am
We love the doggie posts. And Julie, she doesn’t look mean. She looks like a princess demanding attention from her subjects.

Carly – I love it when Buddy and now Bailey blog. Besides, this is how we really get to know them.
Bailey – your mommy may all ready be doing this but just in case, ask her to take treats outside with you. As soon as you go potty she should give you a treat right there and then. Not when you come back inside because then you’ll think you were rewarded for coming in.
As far as your crate goes, you will stop it may take you a bit longer since you are still so young. If you mommy has a “diaper” in your crate ask her to take it out. You know that if it’s in there you’ll potty on it and hold it. You’ll get this down in no time.
Buddy must love you bunches all ready since he is playing brother/sister tricks on you so soon. I know having you face in the water wasn’t fun but you’ll get him back.

Hi Bailey-
he’s a lab/hound mix and boy can he hold it!!)
Here’s what my mommy and daddy did for me. They did the same thing Alex did, but increased the times bit by bit. they also, when I was a puppy, took the water dish away after 8 or so at night. Then when I went out for my last walk, I went and didn’t have to go again. I didn’t spend much time in a cage and now I use puppy pads if they aren’t home and I have to go. My bladder is a lot smaller than my big brother Charlie’s :doggie
When they leave us home alone, I get the livingroom (there is a gate blocking it off from the rest of the house). I don’t go unless I have to. Sometimes Charlie comes out and stays with me, but he usually sleeps in the diningroom on the couch there.
I sleep with mommy and daddy at night. Charlie used to but now he stays downstairs and sleeps with mommy’s two-legged daughter. And both cats.
haha. I get the whole bed. Do you know how much room a daschund can actually take up on a bed??
Right now I am hanging off the arm of the couch covered in pillows. This is the life. It’s raining outside, so I won’t be going anywhere until it stops. I don’t like to get wet.
And I like to hear your stories about Bailey and Buddy. It reminds me of Charlie and me. We like to play together and he plays at my level so he doesn’t hurt me. I steal his bones too, but he leaves my toys alone. I prefer dirty socks. I steal them when someone takes them off and leaves them on the floor or inside their shoes. I don’t know why he doesn’t want to play with my toys.
Have fun with Buddy!!
Love
Isis (aka fuzz butt, or snausage)

When we took my Yorkie Macbeth home he was just 7 weeks old, and he also used to have “accidents” in his crate. I was baffeld because everyone told me he wouldn’t go where he sleeps. So I called the Vet for advice and he asked a very simple question, did the breeder/petshop keep paper in his crate? :lightbulb: Yes I replied, all the crates were lined with ripped up paper. He said it’s a common practice which in his opinion is just stupid
because now the puppy thinks its ok to “do business” in his crate.
Honestly it took only a week or two of paper on the kitchen floor for him to realize thats where he needed to go, and then we moved the paper outside, he caught on pretty quick… which just made life better for everyone, Now he rules our home and our hearts:love2:

I love the Buddy/Bailey blogs. I agree with Vicki about the “diaper”/piddle pads not being in the crate. I had a friend who had too big a crate and went to a much smaller one and that helped. I don’t have a dog right now, but when I had one, we took it out about every 30-35 minutes to go to the bathroom(seems a bit like potty training a child as we are going thru this with my youngest niece right now). Love that Buddy is taking his older sib role to heart…look out when Bailey gets a little older, little sisters are tough and think long and hard about how to get someone back.
Julie-Lady looks like a sweet dog who rules her kingdom well.

i posted a whole letter to Bailey. What the heck happened to it???
Comment by ev — May 15, 2007 @ 9:08 am
I just released it from the Spam folder, ev. No idea why it ended up there…it should show up now!
Comment by Julie Leto — May 15, 2007 @ 9:14 am
Hmmm spam folder, I guess that’s what happened to me on Saturday. I posted from my computer at work but it never showed up so I posted a second time, then I just gave up, figuring it was lost somewhere in cyber space
Comment by Tina Martinesi — May 15, 2007 @ 9:23 am
Yup now it’s there. LOL Maybe because I posted from my other sn, which is actually the email that i have listed. Go figure. But thanks for looking!!
Julie- I didn’t know you had a doxie too. Aren’t they a hoot? I never had one before, and the only one I had had contact with was miserable. but DH wanted another one (they have had a bunch) so we adopted Isis from the Rescue group. She cracks me up. someday I may be able to post a pic (or Carly who has one can do it for me) I am not tech savy enough to do it.

Carly,
I love your dog blogs.
They make me smile.
We had to put our yorkie 13 1/2 down this week:cry:
I am trying to talk my hubby into a another dog.
So far it’s not happening.
He says we are too old.
Julie,
Your dox is very cute. I had one when I was very young. Great dogs.
Bailey,
If I was the big lug (Go Buddy) and you stole my bone I probably would
enjoy seeing your face in the water bowl too.
I think it sounds like you are adjusting really well.
After all it hasn’t been that long yet.
Scheduling meals allows for timed Potty trips.
All those rewards could be making it really hard
not to have accidents in the crate.:doggie:
Nice to hear from you, say “Hi!” to Buddy for me.

I have two Carin Terriers and we trained them to use a litter box, but instead of litter we use old newspapers. This way no one was to get up at night to let them out, there are no accidents during the day or when we’re not home.
I love your :doggie:
blogs!

Oh Jeannie I am so sorry :cry:to hear about your dog. Tell your husband a puppy will keep you young. I can’t picture my life without my baby
.
Oh God I sound a little crazy hear

Enjoy the Buddy/Bailey blogs…brings a smile to my face and reminds me of my wonderful girl, Bayle. She was a Bedlington Terrier and my pal. I really miss her, but she gave me many years of joy and happiness.

Jeanne - I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I had an Irish Setter for 14 yrs when she passed away. I said I would never have another dog because the loss was so painful. But about six months later I found a puppy in a trash bag and she was in such sad shape. The vet didn’t think she’d make it but 5 years later she’s here to prove him wrong. I can’t imagine life without her! I hope your husband reconsiders because you’re never to old to give love and to get love.:doggie::love2:

Love the blog today. Good Luck Bailey, glad you are adjusting so well.:love2:

Oh, Jeanie, I’m so sorry to hear that! Must be so tough…I am dreading the day something happens to our little diva!
And Carly, I LOVE your dog blogs! Bailey sounds like a prima dona…my favorite kinda gal!
But honestly, telling Buddy to get some balls, when you were probably the one who took them somewhere to have them cut off, is pretty cruel…lol!
Comment by Leslie — May 15, 2007 @ 1:19 pm
Jeannie, I’m sorry to hear about your dog. Maybe you need to wait a while before trying to talk husband into another dog.
I don’t mind! Bailey sounds like such a cutie & Buddy, we know, is a sweetheart. :love2:
However, he didn’t know that hardly more than a twig was as expensive as it was!!!
Carly, the blogs about Bailey & Buddy are cute.
Jodie, we once had a dog named Budweiser! He was a mixed breed & he ate my pricey little maple tree which did not make me happy!!!

Carly,
I just moved into a new office, and was hunting through some draws at home in search of a key ring to put my new keys on, when I came across a Carly Phillips “I live for happy endings” key ring that I got a while ago…anyway as I was putting the keys on the ring I realized, if I’m not mistaken, the adorable dog on the key ring is Buddy:doggie:.
I’ve had the magnet on the refrigerator staring at me all along and never once realized it was him
so now I see his cute little face everyday as I unlock the door to the office.

Thanks for all the help! No she doesn’t have papers in her crate! I’ve started using treats after she pees and poops, so that should help. Same with the every half hour advice. Working with that one too!
Jeannie, BIG Hugs on putting down our doggie. I’m so sorry!
Tina, that is too funny. Yes it’s Buddy!
Comment by Carly — May 15, 2007 @ 3:45 pm
Thanks everyone we sure are missing our baby.
I don’t think she ever knew she was a dog and she was so smart.
The blogs about all your animals are making me smile though.
Hugs to all
