Jodie…I know the feeling. I purchase books for the college library where I work. Usually the “textbook/scholarly stuff” gets boring so then it’s…two books for the library…one for me, one book for the library, two for me. I mean if I’m on the website anyway… Unfortunately my budget is so much smaller than the library one.

I bought Night Whispers last week here in Canada. Copies were running low (I checked the local store’s inventory before I went - 8 copies, and when I arrived there 2 hours later there were only 3 left!) I own the original copy as well. I collect all of your books and refuse to pass them on to my “book share buddies” in fear that I won’t get them back.
Actually, it was your short story on eHarlequin.com that got me reading romance. In a nutshell, here’s what happened: I had a dream and it stuck with me. I finally decided to write it down. Then I expanded on it and eventually it became “my novel.” My husband encouraged me to take it seriously and consider working toward something I could get published. I explored Harlequin’s website to see about submissions, writing guidelines, etc. (having read very few Harlequin’s at that time) I knew my manuscript was no where near ready for publishing, so I checked out guidelines and couldn’t figure out which line to redirect my rewrites toward. I took Harlequin’s advice. I decided to read some romances from each of the categories to get a feel for where my novel might fit. I started by reading some online stories. When I read Ruthie’s story you had me laughing so hard and loving every minute of it. I went to work (college library) the next day and ordered every one of your books in on interlibrary loan from the National Library. I LOVE your books! Then, I started to read the blurbs at the back of the books and wanted to read other romance novels as well. I’ve been hooked on romance books ever since and ALWAYS purchase all of your books (new and older ones when I find them.) Thank you Leslie for introducing me to this wonderful genre!
As for my own work in progress, well, I took a romance writing course and did very well. It was taught by a man whom I believe had a real grasp on the genre. I learned a lot. I have also completed a week long “Writer in Residence” session with author Rosemary Aubert (former editor at Harlequin) Now I’m just trying to find time for all the new ideas I have to reshape my novel. How about all the other writers here? How do you find time to write, interact with family and work full-time jobs? Any advice? I’ve been working at this since 2003 and I just never seem to have the time to get back to it.

Leslie - I love your books! I love all of the Plot Monkey’s books. In fact, Carly it’s your books that inspired me to write my own romance novels - you were the first romance author I read and now I’m hooked on all the Plot Monkeys. Dont get jealous, i have Chipotle across the street from my apt. I go at least once a week. Love their rice! But of course i need to start exercising because i think i have gained weight since they opened in the fall of last year.
