Buddy Update
I suppose I should ask if anyone really wants to see pictures of my poor :doggie: but I’m just going to assume that you do.
Humor me because I have no time for anything these days except raising teenage girls and taking care of a sick dog. Buddy had two fatty tumors removed, one on each side of him - BENIGN - thank goodness.

But he’s miserable.
Can dogs cry? I think he’s that unhappy with his situation - obviously he is wearing a cone so he can’t rip out his stitches and he bumps into things. He can’t drink with the cone on so I have to take it off a few times a day. He can’t eat with it on, so ditto. In the beginning he couldn’t pee or … - you know - with the cone on because it interfered with his sniffing on the ground. He’d sniff the grass, the cone would get caught and he’d get frustrated and couldn’t pee. Thank goodness we’re passed that point. Another week to go.

However there is GOOD NEWS for Buddy’s caregiver (namely me)
I’M OUTTA HERE TOMORROW ON MY PLOTMONKEY TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!! That leaves kids and hubby to take care of Buddy. I have one thing to say to that. POOR DOGGIE!

YEAH ME!

So where do you think we’re going?
Here’s a hint … When a former president visited this city, he made a comment about some local coffee…which ended up becoming a major national jingle. ![]()

Anyone?

If it is Nashville, have a blast!! I love that town, actually the whole danged state.

Poor Buddy!:doggie: I know how mine hate it when I go away and leave them to the mercy of DH and daughter. Bring him back a nice chew toy!!

If you are coming to Nashville, make sure to bring lots of clothes for cold weather. We finally have winter in Middle Tennessee(just came in yesterday) and it looks like it might stay around for some time(if y’all hade been here last week, it was 70 during the day and not much cooler at night). Glad Buddy is doing better. We have the same problem(fatty tumors) with my dad’s lab and it worries me all the time. Have fun on the plotmonkey trip!!!

Poor little Buddy:doggie:. He does look like he is miserable.
I hope he gets feeling like himself real soon.
I haven’t a clue about the coffee jingle. :wallbash:
But if you destination is Nashville have fun.

Sorry about Buddy. This last year saw Alison and I say goodbye to our dog after losing a three year battle with dog cancer. Point is, Smith didn’t do well at all with the “Cone of Denial” so we took it off, and merely dressed him in T-shirts and shorts so he couldn’t get to his surgery stitches. The surgery worked, but other tumors popped up elsewhere. It gave us more time to be with him, but also got us real experienced with “dressing” him as he eventually had a few more surgeries.
Comment by Walt — January 16, 2007 @ 9:49 am
Oh Walt, that is precious. :doggie: Carly I can see your teens dressing
Have a wonderful time in Nashville.
Can’t go wrong there.
Sounds like a great place.
At the very least a good place to hoot and holler.
I just love those country fiddlers
and the banjos too
You’ll have to let us know if there are any country inspirations in Nashville! Have fun!
Buddy while your gone.

Glad to hear that Buddy is better.
Location: If it is the obvious (at least for us NWesterners) for Seattle (hello, coffee capital of the universe, lol!), it can’t be Seattle because it is supposed to be SOOOOO cold. It can’t be 45 degrees (if it is, I am having a PARTY!).

Poor Buddy.
I got the coffee reference, but not the city. So, wherever it is…have tons of fun and be safe.

Trivia answer for the day!
The ‘good to the last drop’ slogan for Maxwell House brand coffee, was actually coined by US President Theodore Roosevelt, in 1907 !
As part of his visit to ‘The Hermitage’, home of President Andrew Jackson, Roosevelt was touring Nashville, Tennessee, where a country fair was on. Roosevelt also visited it :
Maxwell House Coffee’s founder Joel Cheek had set up a Coffee booth at this fair. When Roosevelt walked by the Maxwell House booth, Joel Cheek thrust a cup of his coffee at the President — who promptly drained it in one gulp.
Setting down the empty cup, Roosevelt turned to the people around him and declared that this coffee was ‘good to the last drop’ — thus giving Maxwell House Coffee this 99-year-old advertising slogan, that helps sell it to this day.

Wow Jeannie I’m impressed

Hope you gal’s have a blast in Nashville
Carly, don’t worry too much about Buddy:doggie: I’ve learned from experience that dogs, like children are resilient, I’m sure he’ll back back to his playful self by the time you get home.
Comment by Tina Martinesi — January 16, 2007 @ 11:51 am
We just got our school closed (Thank GOD!). There’s only 1+ inches, plus ice stuck underneath. All of the other districts closed (duh).

Have a great time in Nashville…sounds like a blast!
Buddy will survive….despite his new caregivers. I am sure he will have them trained to his way of doing things before you return. Dogs do rule…right.
Comment by Shari C — January 16, 2007 @ 12:19 pm
Have a wonderful time in Nashville.:cocktail:
Buddy will train them no time!
Comment by Susan — January 16, 2007 @ 12:59 pm
Being on the west coast my first thought was Seattle! However, I see a real good reason to believe it is Nashville. Where ever you go have lots of fun & bring us stories so we know what was happening!!
Comment by Donna M — January 16, 2007 @ 1:17 pm
P.S. Glad to hear that buddy is healing okay. He will be fine while you are gone. Try not to worry Buddy’s “mom”! :love2:
Comment by Donna M — January 16, 2007 @ 1:18 pm
So glad that Buddy is doing better, and I am sure he will have the rest of the family trained in no time……..
Have a great time at the retreat………….

Julie…I am enjoying “Private Lessons”….what a nice way to warm up my freezing nights!
Comment by katie — January 16, 2007 @ 2:17 pm
Ohhh I am SO jealous! Have fun in Tennessee! It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, even prettier than North Carolina.

Comment by Jen — January 16, 2007 @ 3:19 pm
Jen- I agree with you!! We spent our honeymoon there. I fell in love with Chatanooga!!
You gotta go to the Opryland Hotel (unless you are staying there of course!) I spent a day just wandering around it.

Nashville TENN
Glad that :doggie: is feeling better
Comment by Cherylann — January 16, 2007 @ 7:51 pm
Poor Buddy! But at least his long term news is good! Carly, I don’t know where his stiches are, but we had a similar problem with our dog a while ago, and she wouldn’t accept the cone at all, just sat on her bed and shook, so we took it off and bought her a sweater that covered all the spots she wasn’t supposed to get it (a fleece of some kind works well, too, more closely knit). I don’t know if that’s a possible alternative for you, but thought I’d throw it out there.
Have fun at the retreat.

A really good reason it’s not Seattle is that Julie is a Florida gal you know the thin blood and all. She’ll probably be cold in Nashville.
Bring the coat Julie 46 is brrrr—-cold.
Sweater
Comment by jeannie — January 16, 2007 @ 8:14 pm
Jeannie…it is snowing, again, here in the Pacific NW. Us NWerners complain when the weather gets below about 50 degrees or above 80. LOL!
I think, though, you are right….The plotmonkeys will have to say ‘hi’ to Keith, Nicole and all of the country singers for us!
Comment by katie — January 16, 2007 @ 8:25 pm
Buddy’s a cutie. I’m so glad to hear that his tumors were benign. Here’s to a speedy recovery.
Have fun on your Plotmonkey trip. Wherever you’re headed, I hope it’s warm. It’s cold here in San Francisco (at least what I consider cold).
Comment by Diana — January 16, 2007 @ 9:56 pm
Nashville is awsome. The Opryland Hotel is so beautiful. I was there in April
