What kind of wrapper are you?

Janelle Icon

I would hope that most of you are done with your holiday shopping, or at least the bulk of it. Now comes the chore of wrapping all those gifts. I know people who are very creative when they wrap holiday gifts, and the present is so beautiful you almost hate to rip off the handmade bow and ribbons and meticulously folded and taped wrapping paper. Me, I’m a quick, get-it-done-as-quickly-as-possible wrapper. In fact, most of gifts are wrapped, taped, and topped with a pre-made bow within two minutes. Better yet, I LOVE gift bags — no wrapping required! I just don’t have the time, or the patience, to create this gorgeously wrapped gift, only to have the recipient rip it apart in thirty seconds flat.

So, what kind of gift wrapper are you? Slow and meticulous, or fast and efficient?

And now, a little holiday humor that will hopefully make you laugh. Here is the reason why MEN don’t design Christmas wrapping paper :

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Everyone! Only 4 more shopping days until Christmas!

  1. LOLOLOL!
Ask my kids. I’m a wrap fast, lumpy, bumpy wrapper but I get the job done!
I hope you all get lots of :present: this year. Who cares who they’re wrapped? It’s what’s inside that counts.

  2. I just get the job done. Gone are the days when I made sure it was perfect.

  3. I’m in the middle. I do it fast, but I’m very precise. I only choose wallpapers that are thick enough to get a sharp fold with. I love, love, love gift wrapping from Sally Foster just for this reason! But I’m not creative. I don’t do bows unless it’s to cover how I missed a fold or something. Who has time?

  4. Bows? What the heck are they?

I am a get it done and if it fits in a bag, even better, type of wrapper.

That said, I finsihed 2 days ago except for one or 2 things that just showed up.:present: :present: :present:

  5. Ooookkkaaay…well I would definitley be the exception here. I’m very precise about the folds and creases and making sure as little tape shows as possible. I make big, elaborate bows (but I’ve done it for so long that I can do it in a matter of minutes, it really isn’t that time consuming now) and I do have to admit that sometimes I’ll swipe them off the floor after they’ve been tossed aside and put them away for next year’s use if they’re in good shape.

However….everyone knows that they are to rip them off and cast them aside, just like they would any premade bow and get down to the business of opening the package. I can’t stand it when people slowly open each end and the slide the box out (not to mention names but someone, like, say my father-in-law!). Kids have the right idea (my opinion) - rip ‘em open so you can get to the inside and enjoy it.

I’ve been sick for a couple of weeks and so I’m very behind in getting any of this finished. I’m making scrapbooks for my kids and am not even close to finished - I’ll be suffering a different sort of deadline dementia! So, they might just not get any bows this year and lucky if their gifts even get wrapped!

Hope everyone else’s shopping/wrapping/baking/etc. is going well!

  6. I try really hard to be a great wrapper, but alas my gifts look like a 5 year old wrapped them. I do use gift bags if at all possible(just so much easier). I do try to always wrap any gifts I have for children(more fun to watch them rip into the gifts!)I finished wrapping last Friday, so just have to load all the gifts up to take to my Dad’s tomorrow. As for the “Men’s Wrapping Paper”, that is just too funny!!! My brother-in-law actually had just e-mailed the wrapping paper to me this morning, so I got two big laughs this morning.

  7. I’m an efficent wrapper because I have to be. I never have my shopping done until Christmas Eve. One year I started shopping in October and kept on shopping until Christmas Eve. I way over spent that year. I have barely even started shopping this year. I’m going out on Saturday and my plan is to get it all done in one day. Wish me luck!!

  8. I like to be precise, but I know that my little guys would just not care, anyway. I try to pick out a wrapping paper of something that they like (thus no tags). I love taking the time to do certain people, like my mom. She always does such a beautiful job with our presents, I like to spoil her with nicely wrapped ones!

  9. Oh would that paper sell. It hysterical.

I am just like you Janelle. Kudos to the gift bag & peel and stick bow makers. I have 2more to wrap and I’m done so that should take 5 minutes.

    Hugs for the laughs….

  10. I’m glad I”m not the only “slap-it-together” kind of wrapper, LOL!

Jodie — I hope you’re feeling better for Christmas! There’s nothing worse than being sick during the holidays. Big hugs!

Darcey — you know I think you’re crazy for venturing out Christmas Eve to go shopping. This weekend is going to be a ZOO everywhere! I say if you haven’t gotten your shopping done by now, GIFT CARDS are the way to go! (and they’re super easy to wrap!)

    Comment by Janelle — December 21, 2006 @ 11:19 am

  11. I’m definitely another slap-together wrapper! I did take time with my oldest sister’s gifts this year because she always takes SO much pride in her beautifully wrapped gifts with the handmade bows. So, I think I cut the paper straight on hers.

Otherwise, slap that stuff on there and stick it back in the hiding place before the kids come in the room.

  12. OK, I know I am for sure an exception - I do very elaborate gift wrapping at Christmas and all year long, really. This year I made Christmas stockings decorated with felt trees and jingle bells (pattern from Martha, of course). My daughters really love to receive my gifts, and I usually see past gift toppers in their Christmas trees year after year. I’m the only one in the family who is so compulsive, but hey, I love to do it.

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  13. That’s so awesome, Joy. I truly envy people who are creative that way and I love homemade gifts. Me, I couldn’t “craft” my way out of a paper bag, LOL!

  14. I go with gift bags now. Much easier than trying to wrap with two cats helping!

I can think of a few family members who would love that wrapping paper!

    Comment by Susan — December 21, 2006 @ 1:14 pm

  15. My gifts are pretty much wrapped quickly & easily! I do love to see beautifully wrapped gifts but I’m not to creative in that respect!! Gift bags are the best & I use alot of them. I only take extra time & care on some gifts the grandkids only want to rip them open & see what is inside & 2 grandkids are in another state so theirs get mailed! Whew, long sentence!
Darcy, good luck shopping. I can’t imagine why anyone does that but to each his own. Enjoy, I hope you can find what you want.
Janelle, the wrapping paper is funny! I’m sure it would sell!!

  16. Ok, I have to confess that I am a closet “Martha Stewart” when it comes to wrapping packages. And before anyone asks, yes, I do have a life, go to school, full-time job and a family. I find that that the slow and meticulous method is very therapeutic. Now all I have to do is finish my shopping.

    Comment by Ardie — December 21, 2006 @ 1:36 pm

  17. Oh my Ardie.
You are running out of time. You’ll be up all night Christmas Eve. While you’re wrapping I’ll be having visions of sugar plums, well maybe chocolate covered cherries, maybe M&Ms dancing in my head.
    Therapeutic”" not in my house
    Good Luck finishing…..

  19. Darcey, the best of luck to ya!!!! I have to go to Best Buy on Sunday to pick up a gift that I didn’t have any way to hide and I’ve been dreading it since I said, “I’ll come back on Sunday.”

Janelle, I forgot to comment on the wrapping paper earlier….

    Comment by Jodie — December 21, 2006 @ 4:04 pm

  20. Oh, Janelle, thanks for the hug. I am feeling better…now that they actually gave me 14 days of antibiotics instead of the 2 days they accidentally gave me the first time (and then insisted that 2 days was all I was supposed to have when I called back to question it). No wonder I wasn’t feeling better!

  21. I just get the job done!

  24. I am a quick wrapper, especially for Christmas presents which are only going to be ripped apart anyway, but since the Gift Bag I can do such a nice job………..LOL……..They were the best thing to come along……….
