FANTASIES AND FREEBIES

Fantasies and Freebies

Most of us have one, even if we’ve never admitted it out loud to anyone. A “fantasy freebie” is that one person you’d have one hot steamy night with given the chance. A “fantasy freebie” is a free pass to go for it, and your significant other would completely understand, because he or she has a “fantasy freebie”, too. Okay, maybe not in real life, but that’s why it’s called a “fantasy” freebie. It’s a fantasy, something you imagine in your mind, but would never do in real life, especially if you *are* with a significant other! It’s harmless fun, because no one gets hurt.

A fantasy freebie can be a celebrity. A secret person you lust for . . . friend, neighbor, co-worker, etc. Most of the time, a fantasy freebie is that one person who is elusive to you, for whatever reason. Hence, the fantasy.

My fantasy freebie changes from time to time. Brad Pitt once was one of my fantasy freebies, but after the entire Jennifer/Jolie incident, along with the fact that he’s lost a whole lot of his polish and looks more like a hippie these days, he dropped off my list. Tom Cruise used to be a top contender, until he made a fool of himself jumping up and down on Oprah’s couch. That dose of reality killed the fantasy for me, LOL.

My current fantasy freebie is someone I just noticed this past year. I started watching the TV series, INVASION, and one look at Eddie Cibrian (who plays Russell) and those dimples of his and I was hooked - - on him and the show. He has a sexy smile, and those dark, smoldering eyes are enough to make me swoon. I love the fact that he plays a good guy on INVASION, that he’s a protector and really cares about his family and his community. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he has a great body. He’s nice eye candy and a perfect inspiration for some of my romance heroes.

Now, if for some reason Eddie Cibrian is busy when the opportunity arises, I do have a standby fantasy freebie. Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer on the TV series LOST, is so fine. I don’t usually go for blondes, but there’s something about Sawyer’s long, unruly blonde hair, the five o’clock shadow on his jaw, and that cocky smile of his that gets me going. Toss in that gravelly, sexy voice of his, and I’m a goner. He’s a bad, bad boy, definitely rough around the edges, and he oozes sexual energy. As a fantasy, I wouldn’t mind being stranded on an island with him!

Now, don’t feel bad for my husband, thinking that I’m lusting after these men behind his back. He has a fantasy freebie of his own. Given the chance, Jennifer Love-Hewitt would be the one he’d choose. I think it’s all that long, thick brown hair of hers (mine is short-short), her engaging smile, and the fact that she has all the right curves in all the right places. She’s a good girl with a bad girl’s body, and what guy can resist that combination?

So, who is your fantasy freebie?

  1. Having had enough time to think about this one, I have more than one. Jon Bon Jovi (since I was about 12); Clive Owen, Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman would all be on that list. I love masculine, rugged men and I think they all fit that description in some way.

My current (crazy) fantasy freebie is actually someone I know in real life, and he’s a fantasy cuz he’s my friend and he’s married. It’s a line that will never, ever be crossed, and he has absolutely no idea, but he’s #1 on my list. He’s smart, funny (wicked sense of humor), has a great personality and a sexy smile, and he rides a motorcycle. Sounds like someone out of a romance novel. I think it’s because it’s someone I actually know that I feel a little guilty about it, but again, nothing will ever happen, yet it’s fun to fantasize LOL.

  2. Oh, my hubby and I definitely have this deal. In fact, I used ours as a concept for my September book–heroines have an Adultery Free Zone List of their top 5 “no questions asked” fantasy guy.

Hugh Jackman has been # 1 on my list for a long time…having actually met and touched the man, I have to say, he is a hottie. But I also have a little crush on Sawyer from Lost. My husband knows this which is why he emailed me a bunch of pictures from the latest Men’s Health magazine…lol!

And he definitely has his own list. If he ever gets stuck in an elevator with Halle Barry, Selma Hayek or Charlize Theron, I’m in big trouble.

  4. I’ve had a thing for Tom Selleck for years. And Sam Elliott’s (from Mask and Roadhouse and a whole host of other movies over the years) voice can send shivers up my spine.

  5. Carly is at a conference retreat, so I’m posting her answer for her:

Well, apparently Janelle is bound and determined to make me CHOOSE my freebie even though I TOLD her I told my husband there are just too many gorgeous men out there to count. He, on the other hand, had no problem. Jennifer Lopez. My response to that? MEN. They love breasts and booty. OK so who’s mine? I’m torn between the athlete - Mike Piazza, ex-NY Met and the hottie Michael Vartan who caused me to become Vartan Ho #2379 (http://www.carlyphillips.com/ fun_stuff.html). If it were MY blog, I’d have a blast putting up photos! See you on Sunday when I return.

  6. My fantasy guy is Sawyer from Lost. I go for that bad boy look he’s got.

I don’t think I wanna know who (or is it whom?) my husband fantasies about.

BTW Janelle, I called my favorite bookstore and they put a copy of your book (A Little Bit Naughty) on hold for me. Can’t wait to read it!

  8. I’d have to say Kiefer Sutherland. How can you not fantasize about a guy who can save the country in 24 hours!

Janelle, last week you were talking about your weakness for Starbucks and I had to laugh because you would never make it living were I do. The nearest Starbucks is about 20 miles away and opened just last year! :o

  9. Hmmmm, so many men, so little time…..

You know, there was this guy in high school that was so freakin’ hot. Us girls would hang out in the hall waiting for him to walk by his locker, and he put a show on for us, struttin’ down the hall. His name was Erik. When he graduated, we found out his middle name was Wolfgang. If that doesn’t sound like some sort of romance hero, I don’t know what does. But if he still looks as good as he did oh so long ago and he came a knockin’ on my door, I think I’d have to let him in.

I asked my hubby and he was like “I don’t know.” Personally, I think it would be Terry Hatcher of Ashley Judd. Probably Ashley. He thinks she’s hot.

And I’m in agreement with whoever said Sam Elliot’s voice is sexy. He used to narrate that “Beef. It’s what’s for dinner,” commercial and everytime I heard that I was like, “nice.” A beef commercial turned me on! How sad is that?????

  10. Yes, Sam Elliot does have a very sexy voice, deep with a Texas or Southern Drawl. Liked him very much years ago. He still looks pretty good.
He was in a movie many years ago where I believe he played an attorney defending Perry King. Can’t remember the name of it.

  11. My fantasy freebie would have to be Tom Sellack as I don’t desire a man that could easily be my son!! On the other hand!! Oh yea, then there is Jerry Rice with the yummy athletic body!!!!! 8) Wow!
    Enough already!
I see that there are only a few comments–afraid to confess your fantasy people??!! Come on fess up!

    Great post, Janelle!

  15. Hmmmmm, well I guess I would say Victor Webster without a doubt. His most recent guest appearance has been on Charmed as Cupid. He also played Nicholas Alamain on Days of Our Lives.

Besides him the only other person I can think of would be Chad Kroeger from Nickelback….his voice makes me melt!

My husbands change like the wind. LOL!! I can’t keep up anymore with his. :p

    Comment by Kelly — April 27, 2006 @ 5:25 pm

  16. Hey, Walt! You didn’t post who YOUR freebie would be!

    Comment by Janelle — April 27, 2006 @ 5:32 pm

  17. I’ve been thinking about this all day and it’s really impossible for me to pick! I pay too much attention to the celebrity media, so the fantasy isn’t really fantasy. I know too much about them. For instance, I think Matthew McConahay (or however you spell it) is utterly adorable, charming and sexy, but he’s a little…um…strange in real life, so he’s out.

I prefer to make my fantasy freebie a CHARACTER. Like Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility. Or Colin Firth in…oh, anything. Antonio Banderas in Interview With a Vampire. Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne.

I think this probably breaks the rules, though, huh?

  18. I would have to say definately Hugh Jackman.

  20. Let’s see, I have several. I like George Clooney, but Pat won’t share him lol. Therefore, I’ll say Colin Farrell, Paul Walker, and Sean Connery. Although, I mostly just want to listen to Sean Connery talk. Say my name Sean, say my name! Oh, sorry about that. I got a little carried away there. I don’t feel too bad, hubby has more than one too.

  24. (y) Zara - you are funny and so right, I won’t share George!

You ladies seem pretty much to be sharing my sentiments. I took like Vartan - he was in a cute movie with a tall blonde where the theme song was At Last - dont remember the name. It was on Lifetime I think several times. Both h/h were engaged to to others when they met.

I liked Tom Sellect years back; how quickly I forget and am so fickle. So Clooney is my current favorite. Sorry, Zara.

Can’t wait to see what the prize will be for this weekend.

Has anyone read Suzanne Gray’s 2004 release - Wild for You? Very Good. Hot. But she leaves you hanging with the Heroe’s 2 sisters and I dont see any other books by her. Hope she has plans to fill us in on their fate with another book. I looked on amazon and abe and didnt see any other books.
I emailed her; maybe she will respond and fill me in on a hopefully followup book.

  26. I totally agree with you about Brad Pitt. (n)
I would say…Sean Bean, Gary Oldman, Johnny Depp (but I’d make him wear his pirate costume), Wes Studi, and any Scotsman or other Native American I got along with. :p

  27. mmmm Melissa, forgot about Johnny Depp. But not the pirate, I’d want the gypsy from Chocolat!

  28. LOL, Walt!

BTW, I take back what I said. I think I found my guy…Tom Everett Scott. He was in “That Thing You Do!” which you all know is in my top ten. Well, he’s now going to be on a new show called Saved. Firefighter. Oh. My. God. He’s now hunky and buff.

I’m in love…fantastatically speaking, of course!

  29. I’d have to say either New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, or James Denton aka Mike the plumber on Desperate Housewives. Yum, yum!!
