Saturday Chit-Chat (December 9)
What is your one favorite holiday show or TV special?
JD: That’s easy — Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer. God, I still love that show!
Oh, and Frosty the Snowman, too! A movie that I really enjoy watching around Christmas time is The Santa Clause with Tim Allen. What a fun holiday movie! I love that it’s now a “trilogy”, and plan to buy all three of The Santa Clause movies so I can watch them with my grandchildren some day — way, way, WAY into the future, LOL!
CP: Also easy - Frosty the Snowman - because the girl’s name is Karen (my real name!) and because the magician has the rabbit who I just adore. For those of you who don’t know, I collect stuffed rabbits, LOL.
LK: Oh, that’s SOOOO hard. Probably my favorite “TV special” that I get so nostalgic about is the Peanuts Christmas. Just love that moment when Linus stands on the quiet stage and tells the real meaning of Christmas. As far as movies, though, it’s a real toss-up. Muppet Christmas Carol is one of my faves, as are Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, White Christmas, It’s A Wonderful Life, and The Christmas Story.
JEL: I love them all! I love, love, love Santa Claus is Coming to Town and the sequel, A Year Without Santa Claus, if for no other reason than the Heat and Snow Misers! (I hear NBC is airing a live-action remake of this next week…I’m VERY wary.) We have Rudolph, Frosty, Little Drummer Boy (not at all PC, which is why its never shown anymore) and one other on video. Two years ago, Walgreens pharmacies were selling the characters from Rudolph as plush toys and I drove all over town until I had a complete set. Love it! As for movies, I love how they always show Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as a Christmas movie! But for pure Christmas, I’d go with Miracle on 34th Street and White Christmas–again, just for the song, Sisters. Especially when Bing and Danny sing it. Classic! I’m also a huge Peanuts fan…just reading Leslie’s answer gave me chills. I love my CD with the music!

I’m with Julie! I love The Year Without a Santa Claus! I’ve watched all the Christmas specials that come on during the 25 Days of Christmas on Fox Family channel every year, but that one is still my favorite (love all of them though). And yes, it’s because of the Snow Miser! *I’m Mister White Christmas, I’m Mister Snow.* Not entirely sure what my favorite Christmas movie is. I like Tim Allen in the Santa Claus (the original is the best!), The Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and I try to watch It’s a Wonderful Life every year. You name it, I probably like it!

My all time favorite is still The Little Drummer Boy. Heaven forbid that we actually allow a Christmas show on tv that is actually what Christmas is about. I love all the shows, and still believe in Santa too, but they aren’t really what it’s all about and that bugs me somewhat. I agree with Julie- it’s just not PC to show it. Then they wonder why people got upset with stores saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Little by little the actual reason for the season is pushed aside and hidden away. I wonder what would happen if somebody were to try and make Hannaukka and Kwanzaa both PC?? Might extend the shopping season, which I am sure someone could use as a marketing tool.

I totally agree with Linus’ speech. Sometimes, I actually fast forward to that spot (I am SOOOO pathetic). I love (and I have never been able to find) “John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together”. I loved the muppets as a kid and when I hear the cd, I am reminded of that show.
Janelle, I just finished your novella in “Secret Santa”. Loved it…whew!

My favorite Christmas movie, hard to choose but I love White Christmas. They just don’t make movies like that anymore!! Guess that gives my age away! I haven’t seen Miracle on 34th Street in a long while, guess I should watch it again as I like it! I live in Sonoma county not far from where Charles Schultz lived when he was alive. There was a time when we commuted at the same time & I saw him on the freeway every morning. He was much loved in this area, from what I’ve heard a very nice man. I love all the Peanuts holiday specials.
Carly I collected bunnies for awhile, my collections includes stuffed ones, little figurines, pillows with bunnies on them, etc. When my oldest grandson was younger he used to come over & count all of them. Little did he know there were ones packed away for certain holidays!! I have Christmas bunnie angels that are so cute. Must get them out!
Julie, I am reading your story in I’ll Be Home for Christmas, thanks again for the books. :love2:
Have a great weekend everyone.

A Charlie Brown Christmas has always been my fav!!! I love Snoopy and always have(I had a stuffed Snoopy that I slept with until it fell apart when I was really little). I also love that Linus reads the Christmas story on stage(fyi-the tv execs almost wouldn’t originally air the show just for that one scene). However, my family jokingly says we have “the Griswald Christmas” every year. Our get together is next weekend and the highlight is “the yule log”…which in this case is bbq bologna sticks that my dad(aka Clark Griswald) makes every year. Not only do we have one…he has to grill enough for all the family to take some home. So I guess Christmas Vacation is special to me too.
