Hacking And Stuff

Posted by at Feb 19, 2013 6:00 am

Sorry … this was posted on time but for some glitchy reason, it didn’t go up!

I got a notice the other day that somebody in Saudi Arabia had signed in to my Pinterest account.

Although I’ve had the account for months, I rarely use it. Mostly was just for my daughter’s wedding stuff. So it had been quite a while since I was on there. When I got that warning notice, I went to the site and saw that I had “liked” and “repinned” a bunch of stuff I would NEVER “like” or “repin.”

So obviously somebody other than the dude in Saudi Arabia had gotten into my account.

Dang, I felt so violated! Not to mention annoyed–which is why I just canceled the whole account.

I have been hearing a lot about hacking on all kinds of accounts, including email. Which is why I went with that “double-authorization” thing on Gmail, which is SUCH a pain in the butt! You have to reply to a text when you try to sign on from another device. I have 3 computers in my house alone, and 4 email accounts that I check every day. And I travel. And I use my sisters’ networks when I’m at their houses. It got to be SUCH a pain! I’m half thinking I’d rather be hacked than deal with that crap.

Facebook was recently hacked. As was Twitter. My bank got hit a week or so ago. It seems like every day I’m hearing about the latest cyber attack and I have to wonder…what the heck is WRONG with these people? If you’re that freaking smart and you can do all this stuff, why not put your abilities to good use and get a real job?!?

Am I the only one, or have any of you dealt with any of this nonsense lately?

I get concerned everytime I hear about a bank, business or anyone getting hacked. Two or three people that are friends have had their email accounts hacked which led to me getting some strange emails. Of course I opened them because they looked the same as always. :drama: I don’t understand the hacking but that smarts could do something better in life. Of course I don’t understand these creeps that are snatching smart phones right out of peoples hands. I could go on & on. It seems something needs to be developed to give those of us online better protections against the creeps. I do know from seeing some of this crap on the news that we need to be less enamored of our technology when we are out & about. Good advice is do not walk down the street texting, checking email or walk around with ear buds in listening to music. It really leaves you open & vulnerable to the theives. :(

    Great subject. Thanks Leslie.

I’ve had my debit card compromised twice but I have a great bank who has caught the problem both times so I haven’t lost any money. But I totally agree with you, Leslie, that the crooks spend a lot of time coming up with ways to scam people. Just think if all that energy could be put to good use.

This is why i don’t understand people who do online banking. Seems like it could be a potential problem especially if you use a debit card and don’t check your history often. Same with a credit card. I have not had any issues lately thankfully.

My twitter account was hacked last year. They were posting mean things about me IN SPANISH! Fortunately, a local business (I live in a small town) messaged me and I found out about it (I hardly ever use the twitter account, anyway). Twitter DID NOTHING! They didn’t do anything and were very passive. :fryingpan: :fryingpan: :fryingpan: (that’s about how I felt about twitter).

One of my stores accounts was ‘hacked’ or someone went ‘phishing’, although, I suspect it was it was my youngest son trying to get into my account, so I can’t blame the store. My dude got a little ‘chatting’ with, though.

:hissyfit: My Yahoo account was hacked and they sent out emails to all my contacts with info on penis enlargements. NICE… NOT! Now I recieve emails using MY email as a return address with offers for viagra and all sorts of things. UGH. I would love to just cancel the account but I have a lot of things and accounts tied to it and it would involve a lot of work to change everything. BUT I did change my password and I change it every few weeks just to keep the creeps at bay. :dart:

Leslie – I kept getting foreign strangers making friend requests & then I got a notice from FB that someone was trying to get into my FB account from the same area you are talking about. Also, someone hacked my Yahoo email & sent messages with phony attachments to everyone in my address book. I kept the accounts & changed my passwords. Haven’t had any problems since, but we shall see!

Unfortunately my facebook account was hacked on Monday and sent emails to lots of my contacts – BOOOOOOOOO!!!
As a retired EIS analyst (engineering systems), hacking of any kinds just infuriates me. I totally agree that if the persons doing this are so smart to do the hacking, then they should be applying themselves in other productive ways. However, I don’t think these people are so smart – in fact they are really stupid to do such as this. I could go on and on, but won’t cause it just gets my blood pressure up and ruins my day.
    Have a great day!!

Found it kind of interesting that the very day I’d posted this blog, there was all kinds of news about the Chinese military being behind some of the major hacking attacks on U.S. businesses. VERY scary stuff!

No you are not alone. I had a $150 charge to my Discover card from Facebook. WTH…..I have never used that card on FB, so I disputed it with Discover but they sent me a letter saying that after investigating it, they found it valid. I have had my Pintrest account hacked & my Twitter account twice. Almost getting frustrated with it all & cannot figue out how to keep this from happening.

It is getting to be a real pain. My yahoo has been hacked several times and I had
an email which I thought was legit from my cousin that I opened so now I have to just wait to see what happens.

I am in process of cancelling paypal which I havent used in years and when I went to go in I found a charge for a bill sent for a penny on the 19th for something/someone I did not make. And you can’t cancell if there is something active – so I had to contact them – did via email, no response yet, so will call them

I don’t bank online but the bank is online, so there you go about that being safe.

Wasnt happy to hear about fb – and also how the poster mentioned about the charge made to her acct thru fb. Not a good world. Yes, let these people do good instead of evil.
