So…my latest hero has been tortured to near death and has had four weeks holed up in a villa in Spain while he recovers. He hasn’t had time for a haircut, but less a shave. I’m not usually a fan of facial hair on a guy, but in this case…it’s inevitable.
Yea, he’s feeling good enough to shave, but as he’s loving the scraggly look (it will make a good disguise), I can’t justify having him whip out his Bic right now. (That sounds so dirty!)
I’ve never written a hero with facial hair before. Okay, Frankie (from my Dirty books) wears a VERY thin mustache in Dirty Little Lies. But otherwise, my men are clean-shaven. So I had to dig deep to get some inspiration.
I settled on Robert Downey, Jr. (Rwarh.)
What about you? Like your guys scruffy or clean-shaven? And if scruffy…who is your ultimate bearded man?

Usually clean-shaven, maybe a bit of scruff. And Henry Cavill as Superman.

clean shaven. got to be scruff free.
Clean shaven….no hair!
Clean shaven, yet my husband insists on a beard. did you know that there is an actual trimmer that gives men that scruffy, I didn’t shave look?
If I’m kissing, clean shaven. If I’m looking, scruffy is good. There’s something about a five o’clock shadow that just makes these old hormones squee a little. Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest) knows how to work a shadow beard. Hugh Jackman (*swoon*), Patrick Dempsey, Gerard Butler….Yeah, I could go on, but I’ll stop now. I have to get some work done and I won’t if I keep looking at images. :winking:
Hubby has a mustache, always has. I wouldn’t have him any other way but in books I like a, for the most part, cleanly shaven man. Oh he can have a five oclock shadow thats okay and fine though. I can’t think of an actor right off hand that comes to mind at the moment.
I like both…don’t mind starting scruffy, then clean shaven to show change, growth in character, especially since undercover. I hope that made sense.
Peace and love,

My ex had a beard for much of our marriage, I liked it!!! But he still shaved every day & kept his beard trimmed. I see hunky pictures of men that look good scruffy but I am getting a bit tired of that trend. I really prefer clean shaven most of the time.
There are some guys that can pull off the scruffy look, and that’s ok. It’s the ones who can’t that need to shave.
I prefer clean shaven, but I do like the scruffy look on Joe Manganiello–Alcide from True Blood.
Not really fond of the scruff thing, but sometimes it works…especially in books and thier covers…
I think it depends on the man. Some men just look unkept with scruff, while others just look hotter! If a man has a weak chin, puffy cheeks or thin lips, for example, scruff can make him look sexy. If a man has a perfectly gorgeous face, scruff can hide how beautiful he is, or it can make him look even sexier! :fainting:
A few examples of men; (just my opinion) :boxer:
Who look hot with either: Matt Bomer, Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Ryan Reynolds :onfire:
Clean-shaven is better: Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt :hothot:
Scruff is better: Robert Downey, Jr., Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom :onfire1:
Whew! I need to go cool down now. :snowguy:
Scruffy! That day old scruff that some guys cab do really well. I’m thinking Bradley Cooper. And saw Zero Dark Thirty with Jason Clarke sporting a full beard. Hmmmmm, loved it. My guy is clean shaven so obviously I like both, but for a hero, I’ll take scruffy any day! Just not dirty!
Adrian Paul as the Highlander at his scruffy best!
Sawyer.
Clean in real life; scruffy in books and movies.
