What Are You Reading?

Posted by at Jan 19, 2013 11:31 am

I have a confession to make…I’m not reading.

I haven’t picked up a book and read it start to finish in months. I’m in a slump and I do not blame the books. I’ve started a lot of great books! Then put them down for the night/afternoon/morning and just haven’t picked them up again. I know they are there, on my Kindle, waiting for me, but I just don’t seem to be finding the time to read.

It’s very depressing.

I did, however, re-read Romeo & Juliet with my daughter this week. It was glorious! Not only because it brought me back to teaching (which I loved desperately, at least…the teaching in class part!) but because Shakespeare was brilliant. His words were so beautiful and artfully put together…it’s a feast for my addled brain. :-)

Hopefully, though, the rest of you are reading like mad! Do tell! What art thou reading?

I have never not read – I can’t even imagine! I just picked up my first Nora Roberts!! I know lol. I’m loving it too. It’s Sanctuary. I just have to make sure I either pick up stand alones or can get all the books in her different series. There are so many of them lol.

I’ve been reading like a fool the last couple of months. I have also hit times when I just cannot find something that interests me. However, I’m just finishing Julia London’s “The Seduction of Lady X” and I LOVE it. I don’t want it to end. It’s a fabulous story and the kind of book you just don’t want to put down. Grab it and I’ll bet your reading slump will come to a screeching halt!

Some suggestions…Maybe switch to paperbacks instead of your kindle? I love the feel of a REAL book. Maybe you’ve gotten out of touch with your first love?

I’m getting caught up on my TBR pile, lol. I’m almost done with Kate Douglas’ DREAM CATCHERS Series and I love it. It’s so out of the box (sci-fi with space aliens) but pure Kate with the hot sex =).

If you’re into Highlanders…Karen Ranney’s THE LASS WORE BLACK is coming on the 29th and she never disappoints with a new twist for plot and healing. Sue-Ellen Welfonder’s SEDUCTION OF A HIGHLAND WARRIOR will finish up her trilogy of strong Scot lasses determined to end neighboring clan wars. AND if your looking for right now Jennifer Ashley’s THE SEDUCTION OF ELLIOT McBRIDE and her MacKENZIE FAMILY CHRISTMAS novella are awesome!

I go through the same thing occasionally. Usually don’t read for a few days. Then I go and read something I already love.

Hey Julie, I just finished reading Kate Pearce’s SIMPLY SCANDALOUS. This book was so damn good and it was a wonderful ending to the House of Pleasure series that she wrote. I highly recommend reading the whole series. I am now reading Janelle book SEDUCED because I just finished also TEMPTED. I love the sisterhood of those books. Not reading! :ohno: I really can’t imagine. :drama: I do have to confess since I’ve taken up photography as a hobby that I don’t read quite as much as I did. Some of that is also due to my eyes. I simply cannot sit & read for extended periods of time anymore. My eye doctor said what is going on with my eyes is part of being older. Oh joy!!! Another thing you had no idea would happen. I can still see fine but my eyes tire much easier now. :crying:

Recently I read In Close by Brenda Novak & just finished Ambushed by B. J. Daniels. Both older books but still enjoyable. Not sure what is next. I do have Perfect Fit by Carly on my TBR shelf.

Julie, maybe if you read an old favorite it would get you back in the reading mode. Glad you enjoyed Romeo & Juliet with your daughter. I just never grew fond of Shakespeare!

Everyone enjoy your weekend. :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag:

I am reading a Brenda Jackson “Westermoreland’ book.

I go through periods where I don’t read, too. I just try to find my groove back. I think it’s awesome that you are reading “R and J”. Why her teacher is only showing the “Buz Lurman” version, is crazy. The older version is SO much better (okay, now I must confess that I haven’t seen the new version of “R and J”.

You can go to YouTube and see how wacky it is!

I wouldnt’ have minded it after they read the play and experienced a traditional version…kind of like to show them a new take. But the only visual? It’s disturbing!

We watched Shakespeare in Love on Friday night…::sigh:: It was amazing.

I just finished J. Kenner’s “Release Me” and Stephanie Julian’s “Private Invitation.” Now I’m reading Lora Leigh’s “Secret Sin.” Wonderful books.

I’ve just gone through one of those periods when I could not find anything good to read. It’s a PIA.

    Good Luck!

I’m reading Janet Chapman’s latest ‘Courting Carolina’ – looking forward to the next books in her Spellbound Falls books coming out this year. But fyi – the story starts with her Highlander series & the Midnight Bay trilogy, then continues in the Spellbound Falls series.
All these books have really held may attention.

I have not been reading a lot in the last couple of months due to lots of family obligations. I am hoping that now that things are are returning back to normal, I can get back on track.
