Refreshing…

Posted by at Jan 9, 2013 6:00 am

Okay, it was 83 degrees here yesterday.

I’m not complaining, mind you. You all know by now that I’m allergic to temperatures below 59 and whenever it gets into the 30s or 40s here (which thankfully does not happen often!), I start shopping for winter homes in Key West. But today, I decided I was getting tired of my regular drink.

Non-alcoholic drink, of course. I’m drinking as I work and unlike many famous writers, when I am drunk, I don’t make much sense.

Usually, I drink Crystal Light, either iced tea (decaf) or pink lemonade. I’m bored with them. I don’t really like any other flavors. I will drink plain old water, but that’s boring, too. I think I need to grow some mint. I am trying to stay away from sodas. I can’t drink club soda or sparkling water because it makes me sick. (I’m not sure what’s in it, but one Perrier or San Pelligrino and I’m out for the afternoon.)

I know that it’s hard for some of you in the frozen north to think about refreshing drinks at this time of year, but what is your beverage of choice when it’s steamy out? (Honestly, it’s not steamy at all…it’s gorgeous. Oh, wait, I’m trying to get you to help me…) It’s AWFUL! HORRIBLE! I’M MELTING!!!

Seriously, though…any ideas?

I love the grape, strawberry, and peach mango favors from Crystal Light. I know they come in the to go packets. I also love the Crystal Light Appletinis and Margaritas. No alcohol in either and very yummy.

I slice up oranges, put them in a pitcher, fill it with water and put it in the fridge. It’s really tasty!

I like Arnold Palmer’s. It is half ice tea and half lemonade. I have found those individual powder sticks that you can make one glass at a time. Love them!

I do what MJ does, but with lemons.

I also use Mio (like Crystal Light, but it’s a squeezey thing). Yummy. Plus, some have vitamins.

I also use fun cups, like I have several Starbuck’s ones that mix it up and make it fun.

Hey Julie, try a witches’s brew. this is equal parts of orange juice, grapefruit juice
and cranberry juice, or any juices that you prefer. You also should give some nectars a try . Like mango, papaya, pineapple and my fave guava juice . Yummy!! :cocktail: :devilbanana: :bananaangel:

Since I have given up soda and any kind of artificial sweetener (have I mentioned I lost 10lbs and all my constant cravings for sweets??), I tend to do Iced Tea with lemon. Or Iced Coffee. Year round. And if you have a Keurig, the iced teas and hot cider are both yummy.

Jukes, you make me smile :) I usually just drink water when it’s steamy out. Boring, I don’t like the after taste of most flavoured water. Lemonade works too and sweet tea.

Oh…picked up my free copy of Dirty Little Lies from http://www.freeebookpartay.com today too.

    Peace andlove,

I make my own ice tea… I drink a lot of ‘hot” tea and what I don’t drink from my pot of tea goes into a jug in the fridge and then I put ice, lemon and a sweetner in it and voila’ a nice refreshing drink..

Rain or shine, hot or cold, you will always find me with a glass of Iced Tea.

Well I hate to say it but iced tea is my drink of choice also. I use a gallon pitcher and 14 lipton iced tea bags. Put in the frig at night and ad sweetener of your choice in the morning. It is delicious!

Over night I let peeled and sliced cucumbers and lemon slices seep in water. Drain and drink chilled over ice. Very refreshing. For a change if you like green tea, use it instead of water.

I don’t have any suggestions, I’m gathering ideas myself! :D I’m on a detox diet for the next 20 days, and I’m not allowed to drink anything but water. It gets really, really, REALLY old after a while. Last time I did it, I dropped raspberries into my glass a few times, and squeezed lemon in, but that only takes you so far. After I finish the diet, I’m NOT going back to sodas, so there are a lot of great ideas here.

As for the temperature… when I arrived at my dad’s last Thursday it was 58 and raining (He’s in Leesburg). I was so mad. I could’ve stayed home for that! But the rest of the visit was much nicer. And I thought about you a lot while I was there. I drove past Tampa 4 times on Saturday and Sunday. I waved at you as I passed. :D

Here in Texas a tall glass of iced tea … caffinated … and your choice of sugar ot not. Many don’t consider it tea unless it’s sweet tea. but, my teeth can’t take it. so it’s unsweet or lightly sweetened steeped brewed tea or sun tea for me. Most also add lemon (or just cut up slices and eat it with your drink). Unfortunately, no citrus crosses my door. Severe allergy :( Might also try lightly sweetening with brown sugar or honey, added while tea is still warm.

Sorry to say, I am totally hooked on Coke. Don’t like anything with artificial sweeteners. I do like Simply Lemonade with rasberry. It does have sugar, though, but maybe with lots of ice it wouldn’t be too fattening!

Hi Julie! You poor baby. :freezeman: I’m an hour north of Chicago, though we’re actually having a heat wave. LOL! It’s supposed to be in the 50′s over the next few days. :onfire:

I drink Iced Tea all year round. I fill a saucepan with water and green and black tea bags. Then, once it boils, I turn it off and let it steep. I add 2 scoops of Lemonade mix (sugar or artificial) and stir. Then add it to a gallon picture with ice and fill with water. It’s refreshing and good for you! They say those tea bags pack a punch to free radicals. :boxer:

I’m thinking the mint is an excellent idea, as well. I’ve put mint in water, lemons, limes and oranges. Even cucumbers – which I didn’t care for – but even grapefruit works to make water a little less boring. I also drink flavored carbonated water. It comes in lime, cranberry, grapefruit, lemon… etc. You might want to try that if plain carbonated water makes you sick. Even adding a splash of fruit juice to water is really good! I’m always trying new ways to add some spice to water.

Good luck and I hope you find the perfect combo!
