Halloween Candy!

Posted by at Oct 29, 2012 6:00 am

You can’t walk into a store without seeing HORDES of Halloween candy.  All your favorite candy in fun “bite-sized” portions.  So, I gotta ask . . . what is your favorite kind of candy that you buy for trick-or-treaters?  Do you buy candy that you like, so you can eat any left-overs, or do you give out candy that you personally don’t care for, so you won’t be tempted to binge on your favorites?

I’m guilty of buying the kind of chocolate that my family likes, just in case there’s anything left.  This year I bought Reese’s and Snickers. How about you?

I don’t buy any. I am usually taking my boys trick or treating ( I am down to only one these days) but we live in the country and have never gotten trick or treaters. One year i bought some candy and my husband was home and he didn’t get any so that was that. lol We go to the town where i work to trick or treat because i know most everyone. ( I work for the USPS and deliver mail) I also grew up and went to school there. Makes it easier.

I do like anything chocolate with nuts or sweettarts and spree. Favorite though is bottlecaps. YUM!

I usually buy a bag of bite sized with things I like and then bring them to work after. I am actually very good about not eating the leftovers- I limit myself to 3 per day max. And tend to stick with it!

I just buy the “Costco” candy pack (2 of them because my husband likes to give out two candies per kid and we still have lots left over).

We’re thinking of all of our East Coast friends today. Hugs to you.

We buy chocolate that the family likes. All the kids on the block know I hand out chocolate not the fruity based stuff so we have a lot of kids come by. I bought my candy at Sam’s Club in a big mixed bag of 120 pieces each. Two bags that is . One bag has Reeses, Almond Joy, Whoppers, Hershey’s Chocolate and Kit Kat Bars. The other has Snickers, Three Musketeers, Milky Way and Twix. Yeah that’s 240 pieces total. We will be busy. :bananaangel: Bring on the Trick or Treaters. :devilbanana:

I tend to buy what we like to eat but since I’m on a perpetual diet and Lawyer Guy is pre-diabetic, the neighbor kids have figured out to hit here late because I empty handfuls into their bags. If the stuff isn’t in the house, we don’t eat it. The kids, like us, love the Reece’s peanut butter cups, Hershey bites, and Snickers.

The apartment complex I live in does not get any Trick or Treaters. Some of the streets in this small town get huge amounts because the kids know everyone on those streets give out candy. One couple I know have a big bash on Halloween, they get around 1,000 Trick or Treaters!! I was mind boggled that there were that many. It is not safe to drive on their street especially after dark because there are people everywhere!!! They live in an old Victorian, they are both artists with no kids but they do decorate. They have a fan in an upstairs room that they hang a ghost from, then turn on the fan so the ghost moves!! It is wonderful! Very clever.

When I did get Trick or Treaters I bought candy I liked because I knew there would be leftovers. If there was to much leftover I took some to work. Yes, I have a sweet tooth especially for chocolate.

The local churches here have big parties so I donate to them. Where I live, not many trick or treaters. I think most parents take their children to the organized parties.
I try not to purchase anything with chocolate n it. That way I am not tempted to eat the candy.

I usually buy family favorites so everyone usually get to have a treat before the kids arrive. So everyone gets a treat. :hallpir:

I usually buy the fun size candy bars that we like to eat. I also buy a bag of the cheaper candy that I give to the big kids (teenagers) that don’t really dress up. It they haven’t at least made a half way decent effort, they are going to get a dum dum or a smartie or whatever I have bought. Street clothes and a mask won’t get chocolate at my door.

I totally buy my favorite SNICKERS. I loved :inlove: it as a kid when I got candy bars and not tootsie rolls or raisins :loser: . I give my kids at the door (and me, lol) a TREAT :cloud9:

I haven’t had any trick or treaters in over 9 years. I usually buy a couple of bags of candy just in case, but not the big bags. I got one bag of vanilla tootsie rolls and one of mini Hersey bars.

We live at the top of a very steep hill. In the last 5 years we’ve had 3 kids so we don’t buy more than 1 bag of candy and that’s Reece’s

I always get my favorite candy, lol. There will always be heath bars and almond joys.

I buy what my family likes but we seldom have any left over. Our neighborhood is well lit and friendly so people drop off van-loads of kids and pick them up one street over.
I usually try to hold back a couple of favorites. The hard part is hiding the bags so my husband doesn’t open them and start noshing. :mickey:

Moving to this neighborhood 3 years ago I buy what I like because I have leftovers. In my old neighborhood it was the opposite. I bought lots of candy that I didn’t like and gave it most away. LOTS of kids. Who knows what’s going to happen this year.

Hubby always buys the full size candy bars from Sam’s. I think we have Hershey’s and Kit Kats and the Reese’s mix also. I love it all unfortunately. I would just by super bubble if I could, and then not be tempted by all the chocolate.

We’re living out in the boonies this year, so I’m not sure we’ll attract any trick-or-treaters. That being said, I always like to be prepared. And honestly, why buy candy if it’s not something I like?? I’ll be shopping for Reece’s and something without peanut butter for my son!

I feel I have to give back since I was a champion trick or treater back in the day. So I usually have candy, the good stuff, chocolate. Usually Twix or Kit Kats since I like them and I get an average of 2 trick or treaters every 3 years.

It’s so disappointing and I live in a huge apartment complex with children.

This year I have one book of McDonald’s gift certificates and a box of Oreos 6 pks. So I have enough for about 12, 1 certificate and 1 6 pk. each…just in case.
