Wedding fun!

No, I’m not going to talk about my daughter’s wedding (4 1/2 weeks away–ack!) But this past weekend, Bruce, the girls and I attended my nephew’s wedding, which was just so adorable, I have to share.

It was a country-western barn wedding. They’re both farm kids, both love animals and working outside, so when a friend of theirs offered his big, super-cool barn (which houses classic cars instead of animals) they jumped at it. The bride wore a gorgeous gown…with white cowboy boots! All the bridesmaids wore cute dresses and boots, and the groom & his groomsmen wore dress jeans and plaid shirts. The ceremony–officiated by my own dear husband, isn’t he cute!–was held on the water. While it had been a rainy day, for the most part, just before the ceremony, the sun came out and drenched the couple in sunbeams. Just glorious.

I actually sang at the wedding and wasn’t too shabby. The reception was inside the barn, with lots of fabulous barbeque from Famous Dave’s. Tons of dancing, (drinking) and fun ensued.

So, tell me, have you ever been to a nontraditional wedding like this? What’d you think?

I loved it!

Was at my first “country-themed” wedding a few weeks ago. My son was a groomsman who was supposed to wear black jeans and a cowboy shirt. The mother of the groom bought all the groomsmen (her three sons and my son, the adopted one, LOL) their country-style shirts in various colours. My son bought brand new black jeans (difficult to find because he’s 6’4″ and all leg) and then my daughter read on Facebook the night before the rehearsal (an hour away) that one of the groomsmen’s wives had just gone out and bought her husband new black dress pants. Thankfully, my son took his black dress pants with him just in case, and sure enough, he “hadn’t gotten the memo” about the change in pants plans. So … at the wedding, they all are in their above-noted clothes, the groom and best man are wearing cowboy hats (to cover their balding heads is my guess), and the bride is lovely in the traditional white dress (but no cowboy boots). So what else is country themed? The meal: catered barbecued hamburgers, hot dogs, and corn on the cob (gasp), as well as cakes/squares brought in by the family. I will admit right now I did NOT try the corn on the cob, as I knew it would get caught in at least eight crevices in my teeth (not a good look for a wedding, I’m told, especially when I didn’t bring dental floss or a toothbrush with me). Other than the corn, I enjoyed every other aspect of that wedding: relaxing, informal (no speeches, no receiving line), the dance started right after supper around 6 pm (so we closed the place at 10:35 pm after loading up all the trucks with presents, leftovers, decorations, etc.), the DJ played a variety of music, and of course the people were the best. Couldn’t ask for more….

Hi Leslie! Love the picture. The bride looks beautiful! My wedding was not western theme but it was different. We put my whole wedding together in one month and on a budget of less than $3000. Our ceremony was done at a small chapel on Camp Pendleton by the beach. Our reception was done in a community center also on base. The food was Cuban food all made by my family mambers. Heck we did it all, the flowers, the decorations, everything but the cake. That was before I started making cakes.

Good Luck with all of the last minute stuff for your daughters wedding! :D

What a fun wedding! At The Only’s wedding, which was formal and held at the Oklahoma History Center (the state museum), the whole wedding party wore western boots–Well…all but the groom’s mother who showed up wearing….a leopard-print dress. Yeah…the less said the better. :zipit:

I’ve been to a rodeo wedding–wedding party on horseback in the arena during a break in the rodeo. I went to an “Old South” wedding on a plantation and the wedding party and some of the guests dressed up antebellum style. The other one of note was a medieval themed wedding. Most of the invitees were SCA enthusiasts, it was held in a “castle” and the food and entertainment (and dancing) fit the time period, mostly. People really didn’t want to eat period food. :rotfl1: Though the mead was excellent!

While The Only’s was in a unique location, it was fairly traditional and I’m glad! Good luck with the upcoming nuptials in your family! It’s going to be a beautiful wedding.

My brother and sister-in-law did a tropical theme wedding in their back yard. They asked everyone to wear shorts and tropical shirts and had flip flops and sunglasses for all of the guests. It was relaxed and a lot of fun.

My brother and his fiancee came down to southwest Florida where we live and I had made preparations for their wedding on the beach of Sanibel Island. The beautiful bride wore a traditional white wedding dress and the groom wore a tux top and shorts. The attendees wore dark green tops with beige shorts. Everyone was barefoot. They were married at the edge of the water under the beautiful sunshine. I hosted the reception at my home by the pool with a sumptuous dinner. It was a delightful and beautiful wedding.

Yes, I have been been to some weddings that were not the usual, traditional type of event. My own wasn’t completely traditional as I wore a sapphire blue satin sheath with a jacket made by my aunt. We had cake & punch at the church then some of the guests were invited to my Mom & Dad’s for a casual but very fun party!! The son of one of my friends had some what of a country theme, both the bride & groom wore cowboy boots, I think maybe the groom’s mother did also & she made the bride’s wedding dress. The reception was outside on a big lawn in the tiny town where the bride & her family lived. The ceremony itself was held in a very small church that her mom & dad were married in. The only bad part of the day was it was 115 degrees out!!! OMG! You cannot imagine what that was like with everyone all dressed up. Back then we were still wearing panty hose, slips, etc. I was miserable. Thank heavens I took a change of clothes & did change late into the evening.
I’ve rattled on enough! Fun subject. Thanks. The picture is wonderful. Sounds like a really good event.

We went to a themed wedding about 2 years ago. The bride works for the Director of The Reno Air Races, so she held her wedding in an airplane hanger. The hanger held lots of airplanes for the 30s and 40s. The pilot the officiated the wedding had his plane behind him and he renamed his plane “Sweet Valerie” in honor of the bride. The Bride wore a dress from the 40′s era all of the men in attendence wore Tommy Bahama shirts. The wedding party after the ceremony, danced back down the aisle with music from the 40s. Our party favors where cookies in the shape of an airplane and the wedding cake had a hand made crystal airplane as a wedding topper. One of my favorite pictures from that day was taken by my husband. He took a picture of me next to one of the first commercial airliners and I could get close enough that it looks like I am getting ready to board. It was a wonderful day and I have that super picture to remind me of the fun that we had that day.

When Oldest Daughter got married, the guys all wore knickers and golf hats. Our poor grandsons were mortified.

I wore white lace up cowboy boots and lace cowboy hat when hubby and I got married. But we really didn’t do a theme. I just liked them with my dress and it’s so me!

Can’t wait to see the pics from your daughters wedding.

My son got married 1 1/2 weeks ago. Although it wasn’t what you would call a “theme” wedding it wasn’t quite traditional. Well now that I think of it, I guess it did have a theme. They were married in the mountains of Big
Bear in the back of a bed and breakfast. The girls wore boots (not cowboy) with their dresses. The cake layers were placed on cut pieces of log with chocolate sticks around them so they looked woodsy. The weather the week before had been cloudy and rainy but was perfect for their day. :cloud9:
There were a few glitches but it all turned out just fine

My husband and I were married standing in front of my grandparents fireplace, and my grandparents were married in front of grandma’s grandparents fireplace 50 years before us, it was a great wedding with our closest family and friends. We have been married for 35 yrs so far.

I went to a beautiful wedding once, held in the couple’s backyard, where sprinkled throughout the ceremony they had people who were close to them come up and tell various stories which illustrated different parts of their relationship. It was so personal and perfect!
