Remembering…

God Bless America.

That expression might have become over-done in the past 11 years, but I don’t think the sentiment can be overexpressed. Truly. God bless this beautiful country in which we are all so fortunate to live. I know it’s not perfect–we have some big problems–but at the end of the day we can always put aside our differences and acknowledge that we have so very much to be thankful for.

I’m sure we will all pause a moment to reflect on the day. There’s never a year where I don’t think about where I was when I heard, how I felt when I saw that first plane hit and then watched the first building fall. It’s something that has defined our lives and I know none of us will ever forget it.

So I repeat.

God Bless America.

The defining moment of that day for me wasn’t when I got the call about the first plane, or even when I watched the first tower fall. It came when I heard the news of the Pentagon. I was driving around the bypass of my town with big, wide-open stretches of farmland on either side of the interstate. For the first time in my life, I understood what it was like for those who live in Isreal, and other countries where they never feel safe from attack. I was looking at the sky, I was looking around at the wide open area surrounding me, realizing I had no where to hide, if I needed to. And that’s when I truly understood what a beautiful, sheltered, lucky life I lived because I lived here.

    Yes, God bless America!!

I remember it, too, like that. I always watch the re-run of the “Today Show” because it shows how much we didn’t know. I had just started having kids and thinking, “what am I doing, what kind of world am I bringing kids into?”. It took me a long time to get over that. I really like that today is designated a day of service (and also rememberance). I try to help out someone today and everyday.

Let us never forgot. God bless all our fallen Americans and their families. Watch over our soldiers in harm’s way and bring them back home safely.

I was on my way to work that day and heard the news on the radio of the first plane hitting the tower, turned the radio on when I got to the office and heard about the 2nd tower, the Pentagon and the plane in Pa. I was all alone and called me husband who was also home that day – he had not had the t.v. on and didnt know what had happened.

Well said, Leslie. I’ll never forget the quiet by my office once all the planes were grounded. I work within a mile of the Nashville International Airport and we have planes fly over pretty much non-stop the entire time I’m at work. I still remember when the first plane flew over later that week. Every single person in our building walked outside to watch the plane fly over.

I was also at work. I work for the USPS and was loading mail in my car for delivery. I thought it was just a small private plane at first. Later i found out that i had a cousin on flight 11 that hit one of the towers. Just 24 years old. Her Name was Kelly Booms. She worked for Price Waterhouse and lived in Mass. I had never met her but from what i have learned she was a wonderful bright and giving person.

Now every 9/11 i remember her and imagine what she went through that day.

Remembering brings tears to my eyes. We should never forget. Like most people I remember exactly when I found out. I had turned on the TV while getting ready for work to check on the weather so I dressed depending on what the day would bring. After seeing what happened, watching the towers fall I wasn’t sure if I should even go to work. Were we under attack? Was more coming? I stayed at home until the last possible minute then went to work. All day long the TV in conference room was on & everyone went in for a minute or so whenever they could. Most of us had lunch in there to see what had happened, what was happening. It was a very solemn day. It is very hard to understand why others hate us so much.

I don’t think I will ever forget watching it unfold that morning on TV. It still makes my heart hurt. We will continue to fly our flag every year :flag:

Today is a day of reflection. RIP to all of those who lost their lives on that day. RIP to all of those who have lost their lives because of that day. My heart goes out to all the families who have lost their loved ones, while my family still bleeds for this world. Amazing how on this Tuesday there was not a cloud in the sky, just as it was eleven years ago. Never forget….
(On a side note, I was diagnosed with ITP on this day four years ago. Both of those dates have forever changed me.)

As the Mom of a first reponser on 9-11, who is now in Iraq as a Diplomatic Security Agent and the Mom of a Major who on his 4th deployment was wounded – I would like to say Thank You to all of you. Especially the author’s….it is you that have kept me laughing, breathing heavy etc while I was transported into another world by your characters. You kept me away from the news that I wanted to glue myself to and brought me into another world that was not as scary as this real world we live in today. So Again – Ladies – you truly rock.
