So our first week of traditional school is under our belts…and I have one thing to say: HOW THE HELL DO YOU PEOPLE GET UP THIS EARLY?
It’s been 14 years since I had a job outside of my home. My first year of teaching, I worked at a school where teachers had to be in the building at 7:30am and I lived an hour away. I’m pretty sure I was never late. So I imagine that meant I was getting up at 5:30am. Easy to do when you’re 22 years old and fresh out of college and the obligatory morning classes. (I also worked full time my last year of graduate school, so I was in my office, on campus, by 8am on those days, too…and I lived thirty minutes away.)
Now, it’s KILLING me. Going to bed at 10pm? Waking up at 5:45am (cutting it as close as I can)…it’s hell on my system. I am not a morning person. Coffee does NOTHING to perk me up.
(You’ll also recall that I went off caffeine for over eight years…well, I’m back on and it does ZIP to wake me up.)
The good news is, I’m writing a lot. The bad news is, I’m not sure if any of it makes sense. :-)
I’m trying to stay cheerful, but help me out here…what’s the secret?!?
