Honestly, I’m reading my daughter’s summer reading books with her. (It’s fun to discuss them, though I’m pretty sure no one but my daughter has ever called Buck in Call of the Wild a “Mary Sue”). Next up is Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Not exactly looking forward to it.
What are YOU reading???

Summer reading lists always contain fun books, and dreadful books. Good luck with the list. Oh and why is Buck, a Mary Sue?
I have just started reading a newly published paranormal romance author. Her name is Melissa R. Smith, and the book is Color of Night.
Happy Saturday Everyone!
Enjoy your weekend!!!
A Mary Sue is a character (I guess in this case, he’d be a Gary Stu) who is a placeholder for the author…who possesses some of his traits, but is utter perfection and without real flaws. Buck is like a placeholder for Jack London, who went to the Yukon and had adventures…he’s the perfect beast. Brave, clever, strong, bigger than everyone else, etc. Also, London literally goes on and on and on for paragraphs upon paragraphs about how perfect Buck is, how magnificent and majestic. I might not have noticed this if not for reading with my child, who is very aware of this phenomena because it’s often discussed in the world of gaming. And also, since Twilight. :-)
Thank you. I have learned something new today!
