I am home safe and sound from my great but LONG trip to California. I had a fantastic time at the RWA conference. The best part was, of course, getting to spend so much time with Janelle. We laughed a lot and napped a lot and talked books and business and RWA. I was really happy with how the board meeting went and the changes coming to the organization. Great stuff!
Unfortunately, I did get sick. I swear, I was fine Saturday when I left home. That very night I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat. The next day it got a lot worse and by the day after that my ears were totally clogged, my throat awful, my sinuses killing me. I ended up having to take a cab to an urgent care center on Tuesday, got 2 shots and 2 RX’s, walked across a highway (with a sore butt from where they gave me the shots!) to a drug store to fill the Rx’s, then took a cab back.
All’s well? You’d think so, right?
Uh, no. The antibiotic worked in knocking back the sinus & double-ear infections. But by Thursday night, they began to make me horribly ill so I had to stop taking them. So while I felt pretty good Wednesday, I wasn’t in 100% good health any other day I was there! Ugh!
I am home now, thank goodness, and going to see my own doctor today. Probably have to get on a different antibiotic since I can feel the infection coming back. Next time, I travel with Airborne!!!
Now, back to fun stuff. Like Janelle, I grabbed a LOT of loot in the goody room, and came home with tons of bookmarks, character cards, magnets, etc., that I want to share. So if you want to win a box of books & swag, just answer a question for me: What do you REALLY love to read now? Not talking about authors…what’s the genre/hot trend that you are really enjoying right now??
I was convinced for years that I was strictly a historical romance kind of a girl. A few months ago I stuck my toe in the water with a contemporary romance and haven’t looked back since!!!
I’m sorry to hear that you got sick but I hope you still had a good time anyhow. Right now my favorite genre to read is paranormal romance but I read a little of everything.
Romantic suspense is my favorite, love the extra hold your.breath while falling in love. but as long as there is emotional *can’t do this without you* involved, I’m there.
Feel better! Like to read historical romances but like contemporaries too. Just like a good romance!
Hope you get better soon. I still read everything but paranormal is what I’m reading a lot of lately.
:flowers4you: Feel better soon!
Contemporary and Contemp suspense both rock.
This summer I don’t have one favorite genre. In the house I read historicals, outside I read suspense and contemps. Normally, I don’t have more than one book going at a time. Summers I do.
Recently finished:
Johanna Lindsay, Debbie Macomber, Jane Porter, Dana Marton, Johanna Wayne, Carly Phillips, Grace Burrowes, Fiona Harper and Catherine Mann. As you can see I’m all over the place
Next up: Vickie Dreiling-historical and Ann Voss Peterson-suspense and Toni Blake-contemporary
It’s contemporary romance for me with priorities to cowboys and sports stories.
No particular favorite genre this year. There are way too many hot books to just choose one.
I’m reading a mix of contemporary and historical right now. Trying to catch my favorite authors new books as they come out.
I used to be only Historical Romance but have really expanded my horizons…I have 2 vampire series that I have to stay on top of and I really do enjoy the steamy-erotica stories as well. I like contemporary as well. I guess I pretty much read a little bit of everything now.
I hope you are feeling better soon!!!!
Take care of yourself and no trips in your near future!!!
I love romantic suspense, always a first with me, but close second, paranormal romance.
Contemporary romance with humor.
:hugging: hugs to you! Hope you feel better!
I love to read any type of romance. I love happy endings.
Hope you feel better soon, Leslie. :hugging:
I read pretty much every genre of romance, but have been on a really big contemporary and romantic suspense kick lately. I’ve got a couple historicals set to be read soon, and I’m really excited about both since I love both authors so much.
Sorry to hear about you not feeling well. I hope you get better soon. Nothing worse than being sick when you are away from home.
I am enjoying more contemporary romance these days than any other genre. Close second would be historical romance.
Hope you feel better soon!! It’s contemporary romance right now!!
I really haven’t changed my overall reading habits over the years – it’s basically Contemporary and Regency (with a smiggen of Victorian added in). However, I have been reading more actual romantic suspense than before, and maybe in a year I read a little bit more Contemporary than Historical than I used to, but I’m basically the same as I was like 5 years ago.

Yikes I left a comment and then hit the wrong button and poof it disappeared. So lets try this again
Sorry to hear you were so ill at the conference and hope you are feeling a whole lot better now. As far as my favorite types of books to read….I LOVE romantic suspense/intrigue. Guess that stems from the first books I read on my own…Nancy Drew mysteries.
Yikes…just noticed there is another Ellen
so lets make me EllenToo
I love romantic comedy. It doesn’t matter what period the story is set in because I love it all!
Hope you feel better soon!
Contemporary is probably my favorite – but my TBR and keeper piles have historical, suspense and inspired in them also. Just LOVE romance reads!!
That really sucks that you got sick. Hope you feel better soon! My favorite stuff to read is contemperary romance. I love those books that can make you laugh and cry. Or the ones that keep you up well after your bedtime.
Historical and romantic suspense are my favorites. Hope that you have recovered.
I have been reading a lot of young adult romance books:) So sorry you are still sick. Hope you get better soon!!
Get well soon! Keep telling yourself it could be worse. That might help….
I still prefer contemporary romances (especially with sheikhs) and love to read non-fiction books, especially about time management tips.
Am currently reading both when opportunities present themselves.
I love all romance genres. :inlove: If I have read several suspence books, I will usually go to a contemporary next. After reading the Black Cats Novels (loved them), I needed something light and fun. Right now it’s a regency but with at least 5 new books out today, it looks like it’s going to be paranormal or comtemporary next.
Oh, and here’s to getting better.
I sympathize with the sinus infection. I hurt so bad with mine that it got me to finally quit smoking.
I can’t narrow it down to one… I think it depends on how I wake up, if that make sense. but I have been downloading a lot of Contemporary romance, Paranormal romance and Erotic romance.
Romance anthologies are intrigueing me now.
I really love to read paranormal and Urban Fantasy. I was always the reader who read Contemporaries and Historicals, but know they are my reads when I have no paranormals to read…Go figure…LOL
Thanks Leslie for the chance to win awesome goodies.

So I go through spells where I love to read the same genre. Right now, I have been blessed that several just-getting-published authors have found my blog and they are sending me their books for me to review. They range from children’s books to paranormal romance, so I am excited.
I’m so sorry you’ve been ill. Hope all is well with you soon.
What I’m really enjoying right now is easily reading multiple books. I’ll have something going on my kindle (historical or contemporary romance, usually) and something else (PNR/UF or romantic suspense or pure mystery) in regular book format. Whichever appeals to me at the moment gets read!
I love contemporaries! I just seem to be stuck in this phase right now. There are so many gret ones that have come out so far this summer!
HOT, STEAMY ROMANCES! They are my favorite. Always put me in a better mood. And…Leslie hope you feel better soon.
Leslie….I hope you feel better. Nothing worse than being sick while on vacation. My mom got sick at the end of our vacation and my dad had to drive her back to the NW from Vegas.
I love contemporaries. If it couldn’t happen in real life (in theory at least), I am probably puzzled.
I love contemporary romances (or mysteries) with humor. I love it when I can get both in one book.
Hope you feel better quick!!!!
Right now I bounce between romantic suspence and contemporary and the occasional thriller/mystery to keep it interesting
That is terrible that you have been ill. So sorry, hope you will feel well soon! :flowers4you:
I love the many genres in romance and go through moods as to which I enjoy at a certain time. Right now I have been switching back and forth between Paranormal & Romantic Suspense… who knows what is next!
Glad to hear you had a great time at the RWA conference. Sorry to hear you got sick and I hope you get better soon!
I’m bouncing between mystery thrillers, paranormal romance and romantic suspense books.
I’ve been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately.
OMG i’m sorry you got sick. It’s hrd enough to travel as is yet getting sick too. I went to Lori Foster’s get together in June and felt fine too but by the time i got there 6 hours later my back and leg hurt on the side i used for the gas pedal. Sigh my head was killing my the next day and only got worse. Drove home with that same headache. 6 hours. In spite of it i had a great time. I hope your on the mend now.
I don’t know that i have a specific genre i am into above any other. I like a mix. Romantic Suspense has been one of my favorite’s for a while but i enjoy contemporary and have read some really good ones lately. Throw in some historicals and paranormal and that’s a big part of what i like. I am reading a really great humorous paranormal by Lexi George right now.
Lisa B
Im really enjoying romantic suspense and paranormal romantic suspense right now.
Romantic Suspense hands down.. My all time fav suspense writer Karen Rose suggested an authors from RT2012 that I am reading now as a matter a fact.. I’m loving it.. Kendra Elliot..
I am enjoying contemporary romance at the present.
That’s horrible to get sick when away. I have to say historicals are my favorite genre then suspense, paranormal, and fantasy but I like variety and read almost everthing.
Get well soon!
I read a variety a genres, but usually go for mystery/thrillers, crime/detective and romance suspense.
I go back and forth between historical romance and chick lit. Chick lit wins out often because it keeps me laughing and is so true to life!
Right now I am really into the western romance also anything historical. I switch around a lot so I don’t get bored with a genre :yourock
I
ANY kind of Romance…cont, historical (especially highlanders, vikings & pirates  ), paranormal of all types, erotic (menage but not M/M or F/F)
Right now I’m reading Donna Fletcher’s paranormal highlanders and next I’ll start Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor. I HAVE TO HAVE MY HEA and float away with a romance
For me it’s romantic suspense. I can’t get enough and am always checking on Tuesdays to see what’s been released.
I am really, really loving Paranormal Romance right now! All the different worlds… it’s fantatic to sink into! :D
So terribly sorry you got sick, Leslie! :boohoo: I hope you get to feeling better real soon! :hugging:
I love reading romance novels. I just love happy ends there the absolutely the best.
I’m sorry you sick. Hope you feel better soon.
I have been reading romantic suspense because they are real page turners and seem to go with summer.
Leslie, I’m so sorry to hear that you were sick for most of RWA. It is bad enough to be sick at home but away from home is the worst. I hope you are better soon. Hugs to you. :grouphug:
Mostly what I like reading now is variety!
Good romantic suspense, a good spicy Blaze, some non-fiction, once in a rare while a historical romance, even some exotic/erotic romance as long as there is a real story & a relationship not just raunchy sex, contemporary romance. One thing that I think the industry does not produce much is romance involving people older than their 20′s & 30′s. These days people in their 40′s & 50′s are still going strong & have romance in their life. I’m always thrilled to find one!! Thanks for asking about our likes & dislikes.
Hello Leslie, I hope you are feeling better. I am really of late been reading A LOT of Erotica themed books. I freaking love this genre and quite literally cannot get enough. I love authors that push the sexual and sensual envelope and am extremely happy to say that I have authors who delivery the goods :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: ALL.THE. TIME.
BLESS MY LUSTY HEART! I am currently reading Samantha Kane’s Love In Exile. This book is just what I like and much much much much more. I have a serious thing about reading menages and believe it or not Laurell K. Hamilton got me started on this current train of lust. I have had to put her down because she was getting off track to me with her writing as of late and I have not read her latest and don’t plan to either. But she got me on the mindset of relationships like this could if all parties know the rules and really happen. Maya Banks, Lora Leigh,Samantha Kane especially and until recently for me Kate Pearce, are all my go to authors for this writing. To me even though I have not read it SOG will not deliver the sexual goods and story to hold my interest. Maya Banks recent story.. SWEET ADDICTION did indeed deliver the goods because for the first time EVER, this kind of story of BDSM was told from the woman’s point of view. Never really read why a woman would be involved in this kind of relationship and this book definitely explained an awful lot to the point were I personally understand this lifestyle a bit better than before and Maya’s book helped with that. This lifestyle is not for me but by gooby I will stop my life to read a good story about the subject matter. I hope this helps you in understanding why people read certain things other than your typical HEA, which if you read Maya’s book SWEET ADDICTION has one to boot.
Laters Monica t. P.S. I cannot forget Kate Pearce has a book ROPING THE WIND. It has a scene in it that will stay with me for awhile and mind you have not read it in a year, but damn :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: And let me never forget Loralei James. Need I say More. Her coming book to be released next week… :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot:
CAN.NOT.WAIT.
Thanks Monica for some great additional authors. I love Maya Banks Lorelei James and Lori Leigh. I’m going to check out Samatha Kane and Kate Pearce when I get home. I’m with you, I haven’t read SOG and honestly don’t plan too.
I am an avid reader and right now I am reading some thriller books. Brad Thor and Vince Flynn are my favorites. Next I think I will try some westerns and of course, I always have a romance one going at the same time.
I’m enjoying reading steampunk romance, it’s a lot of fun and the variations are great.
My current favorite is paranormal romance but I like variety.
I have been and still am a fan of the paranormal. I can never get enough of vamps and shifters.
So sorry you got sick. That really throws a damper on having fun.
YA, I have been reading all kinds of genres for years but I’ve recently discovered I enjoy young adult books. I also read tons of contemporary & paranormal.
I have spent the last few years in a historical and contemporary kick but recently I have embraced the paranormal world once again and have even branched off to a little sci fi which I have never been into before. A whole new world to explore.
I hope you feel better!!!!!!!!
I like to read contemporary romances. I’m slowly getting into romance/suspense and erotica (which was totally by accident. So I only stick to one author there.)
Sorry to hear you got sick. That is no fun. I like romantic suspense and contemporary romance.
I really love military romance.
I like to mix it up so I don’t always have a liking to read right now answer. However, I have a plan for the next two in the queu – on my Kindle I am going to read contemporary erotic and in paper I am going to read Regency romance or UF (I have to make that decision on the fly).
Hope you feel better. I like paranormals.
I have been on a historical kick lately.
tie between paranormals and romantic suspense!!
:yourock
I constantly change genre – but always with romance. Right now I’m reading a contemporary, but recently finished a Regency. Depends on where my mind is when it’s time to pick a new book – maybe I just saw something online, or watched a movie or tv show that makes my eye catch on a particular book.
I’ve been reading a lot of paranormal romances lately. It takes a lot of imagination to write about something that doesn’t exist (or does it?) :dart:
Hope you had a good time!

Sorry to see that you weren’t feeling well. I traveled on a plane when my head was all stuffed. I was miserable by the time I got to my destination. Feel better soon.

Wow, horrible that you were sick. I hope you feel better soon. I like all romance, historic, erotic, vampires, futuristic, suspense and etc. A good plot and good writing are the keys. Thanks for the swag, too bad it would cost too much in postage to send everyone that replies something. I think I could send a SASE for a couple book  marks.
I hope you start feeling better soon I am sorry your trip was so terrible at such a fun event. I love Romantic Suspense the most, but I like everything from spiritual romance to erotica. I just love to read and I feel lucky because I know people who don’t read and I think they are missing a lot. hope things go good at the Doc’s tomorrow.
Thanks for a great giveaway! Hope that you’re feeling better!
I’ve always leaned more toward PNR (as my overflowing TBR bookshelves can attest) but I’m still open to reading pretty much anything… I think the breakdown is more: PNR, HR, Romantic suspense, conemporary, misc.
I love contemporary romances, romantic suspenses, and erotic romances. I’m reading my first Urban Fantasy.
Now a days I enjoy reading modern/contemporary romances. I haven’t been into historical romances for a long time, probably since before kids. I have trouble with paranormal. Sorry Leslie. Maybe it’s because I”m “old” or have never been into fantasy. It is very difficult for me to follow. Hope you feel better soon. It did seem you & Janelle had a blast in California.
I like all kinds of romance.paranormal right now. :cooldance:
There is nothing worst then traveling while you are not feeling.
My favorite type of books are Romance or mystery with some historical facts thrown in.
:hugging: Get well soon.
My favorite has always been romantic suspense, but have found a lot of contemporary romances this summer that I have enjoyed so much. Basically I’m looking for a well written book, no matter what genre it is. I love getting lost in another time and place.
Hoping you are feeling better soon…
I love to read a good Contemporary Romance where there is lots of humour, sassy Heroines and Hunky Heroes that are Alpha, but with a mushy moments…
I love to read paranormal and romantic suspense.
Lately I’ve been into young adult books. Which is weird because they’ve never interested me before.
My genre of choice is Historical Romance! I go through stages of only reading HR that last for a while lol. My next choice will always be Romantic Suspense =)
Right now, I’m really into contemporary romance. I just went through a phase of historicals and burnt myself out on them (for the moment).
I’ve also had a few romantic suspense books calling me recently. I might have to switch it up when I finish the current book I’m reading.
Right now I like all romantic suspense, be it contemporary, paranormal or fantasy. Especially if it leans towards graphic sex.
Hope you’re feeling better. I don’t have a single preference lately. Whatever catches my eye and pulls me in is what I read. Thanks for the opportunity.

I seem to read more contemporary romance than any others, but I read a little of everything. Hope your feeling better.
Never had an ear infection, but my sister had so many when she was a child she did suffer some hearing loss. Recover soon!
Urban fantasy is my hot genre right now. Action and a touch of romance and mystery.
:threecheers :inlove: I am into something new for me COWBOYS boy the stores and discrptions are great and now started a series that I have been following which is a contempory which I have waited along time to be in print.

Sorry ot hear you were sick. Hope you are doing great now. I love reading suspense romance. Add in history and I am very happy.
Sorry to hear you were sick. I have been reading a mix of genres. I like paranormal, contemporary, urban fantasy, historicals and young adult.
Erotic romance…. :eyebrow: ok really anything that has romance in it I’m so game…I hope you get better really soon. :flowers4you:
I would have to say my all-time favorite genre right now is paranormal romance. I absolutely lo-v-e it! I just finished reading Lexi George, Demon Hunting in the Deep South. It was sensational! Lexi blows the rafters off the roof with her sexy demon hunters!
Awesome contest! Many wishes that the antibiotics kick in fast and knock out the virus. :boxer:
Hi, I’m reading memoirs and fantasy novels. Also catching up on a few sci-fi novels that I read years ago. I’ve fallen in love with large, sweeping stories – books with over a thousand pages that I can get lost in.
Hope you feel better soon.
Romance and YA are my two genres of choice.
Wow, GREAT responses, thanks so much everyone! I am really interested to see how very popular paranormal remains. I have been thinking seriously about just writing and self publishing my paranormal Y.A. series and this really gives me incentive.
I will post the winner on Sunday, with the weekly contest winner, okay?
Thanks again!
As always, contemp romance – no paranormal, vamp etc. Just what I like to call regular straight up contemp. LOL.
If I had to choose a favorite genre, it would be Historical Romance. However, I do like to change it up with Contemporary Romance.
I love it all but contemporary romance is my favorite right now, especially about women close to my age(OMG,I’m fifty!),it gives me hope even though it’s fiction ,that if you authors can think it up, it could happen even to me. Sorry you were sick,I know how that feels and it’s terrible. get better soon !
It really does depend on my mood. I go in spurts, right now it’s contemporary.
And feel better soon!!! Sorry your health had to put a damper on your fun!!
Romantic suspense, especially military. Any kind of series, especially brothers or families. :-)
Reading erotic romance of any kind has been my genre of choice lately.
Hope you’re feeling better!
In a mystery phase right now – just finished Anne Perry’s A Sunless Sea, next up is P. J. Tracy’s Off The Grid and then J.A. Jance’s Judgment Call.
I like reading Mysteries
Erotic comtmps I enjoy, romantic comedy is still great , whoo. Great swag thanks
 :yourock
Hi Leslie–I hope you recover from your illness VERY soon. It’s terrible when you get sick on vacation. I love reading romance, history, time travel romance, historicals (especially Regency), and MANY other genres.
I’m a romance junkie… contemporary and historical…paranormal… you name it.. if it’s got an HEA… I’m reading it…
Hope you’re healing!!
My current genre is contemporary and paranormal — it’s not normally what I read, but I’ve gotten really into it
Sorry you were sick!! I travel a lot for work, and I know how stressful it can be being sick away from home, and trying to get treated on the road. Hope you get to feeling better!!
