Carly’s Giveaway!

Posted by at Jul 27, 2012 6:00 am

As I’m typing this, we’re having a HUGE STORM and the dogs are NOT happy. They’re in their Thundershirts (do they work? they can’t hurt!). Bailey can use anything to ease her stress. Brady likes anything Bailey does. So here’s a pic to make you laugh. As long as I’m in the house, I’m fine. I hate being out in the rain!

For a chance to win a $25 Amazon GC, answer this: Do you like rain/thunder/lightning? Or do you hate it? And while we’re at it, did you see the movie TED? Love it or hate it? I thought it was the funniest thing I’ve seen. Ever.

With rain/thunder/lightning I don’t mind it really. It’s only the really big bangs and being outside when it’s lightning that I have a problem with it. Now my dog Cleo(she’s a boxer), if she just hears a little bit of thunder she’s trying to get in someone’s lap or hid under a desk!

I haven’t seen Ted but I want to. My sister said the same thing that it’s really funny!

Thunderstorms din’t affect me unless I’m driving. HATE driving in rain at all. I live in Houston…. We have Thinderstorms all the time. Couldn’t live here if I was afraid of them.

    Haven’t seen Ted…. I think I’d like it better If I saw without my kids (20, 18, & 15).

    Renee Pajda says:

Your dogs are so cute! My big, crazy German Shepherd is named Bailey too! Storms don’t bother me at all and luckily they don’t bother my dog. It’s really weird but my son has a moderate to severe hearing loss and when he’s sleeping without his hearing aides and a storm rolls in he gets very upset! I haven’t seen the movie Ted but I think it looks funny. Have a great weekend!

Thunderstorms don’t bother me unless it’s the really close booms.
    Haven’t seen Ted.

Bailey and Brady look so cute! Thunderstorms don’t bother me too much. Not a big fan of them in the middle of the night, but can usually sleep unless thunder gets too loud.

I haven’t seen Ted yet. It looks really funny tho. Maybe should have seen instead of Magic Mike…lol

    Jen J says:

Thunder/Lightning/Rainstorms don’t bother me…as long as I don’t have to go out in them!! They drive my dog a bit nuts though! He’s not afraid of them, he just sort of whines because he wants you to know that something is going on (I’m not sure he quite knows what’s going on either). And with all this crazy weather in Massachusetts lately there’s a been a few nights filled with those whines!

    Melody May says:

I’m not big fan of thunderstorms and lighting, but I miss them. I know there must be something wrong with me. The last time I saw a really thunder & lighting storm was when I lived in the south and that has about 5 years ago. We’ve had storms in Montana, but nothing like anything when we lived in Louisiana. However, I have to prepare myself to a different kinda storm in the winter, which I would prefer a rain storm.

I’m dying to see TED. I so want to see it. Come on who wouldn’t love to see a crass stuff bear.

I love thunderstorms! I just those don’t like tornadoes. I love the steady rain filling my creeks and washing the backs of my horses. I love to open my windows and listen to it raining. I haven’t seen Ted yet or heard of it. My nose is usually in a book while hubby controls the remote.

    Eileen R says:

The thunderstorm was rolling in late last night when i was going to bed. It was in the distance so it didn’t bother me too much. I usually don’t mind thunderstorms until they are right on top of me. I was just nervous about losing power. The last time we lost it for 3 days. and it was HOT!!
Love your picture. Your dogs are so cute.

    Savauri says:

I LOVE thunderstorms! There is something so real and honest about them. I let my kids watch the lightening show and we ooh and awe at it. It’s cheap & fun entertainment for us.
Ahhhh TED! He’s my hero… I want Mark Whalberg as a thunderbuddy too!! :madlyinlove:

    Sue Carames says:

I honestly love the Thunder/Lightning/Rainstorms. The Lightning can be frightful at times, but only if I’m outside in the midst of it. Two weeks ago I was driving in a convoy with my Dad in his pickup, my sister and her hubby in a rental truck and Mom and me in her car through Birmingham, AL. While driving through these big HILLS (aka Mountains) we came into the worst storm I have ever driven through. It seemed like the lightning was going to hit the car. And it was the evening to boot, so dark already. Finally we found a fantastic hotel to hole up in, (and time to read Serendipity again), but to get into that hotel, we had to run through the rain with two pugs and a persian cat. What a mess! Moving the folks from FL to Kansas was an exciting trip. But the next morning came a brilliant sunshine with flowers blooming everywhere because of such rain. How can you not like what brings out the flowers? :flowers4you:

Hi Carly and everyone! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. :)

For storms… I like it when it rains really hard, but not the thunder and lightning. Especially since my sister’s dog (now the family dog) is with us and she is absolutely *terrified* by storms, poor dear. She’s so miserable during them.

For Ted, I haven’t seen it. I expect I’ll catch it when it’s eventually on some basic cable network. I hardly ever go see movies.

  13. 13
    Kathi F. says:

Thuderstorms during the day don’t usually bother me, but forget them at night. Many years ago, a friends bed was hit by lightening during the night. Very scary.

As for Ted, no I have not seen it.

  14. 14
    Sharlene Wegner says:

I don’t really like thunderstorms, especially lightning. I’m always afraid it will hit the house. Didn’t see Ted, but I know someone who did & also thought it was hysterical! I will probably wait till the video. My guess, based on the commercial, is that my husband will like it & I will last about 10 min, but you never know!

  15. 15
    DebraG says:

I do not mind the thunder storms. They can be amazing. I have not as yet seen Ted but I could use a laugh. Think I will go see it.

  16. 16
    Patoct says:

Hate thunder and lightning but like a good enuf rain to water the flowers and grass.

Did not see Ted, but hear it is a riot. A different type role for Mark W.

  17. 17
    Brenda Rumsey says:

I live in Oklahoma so YES, I love the rain/lightening/thunder storms. When there is a storm, you either run to the storm shelter or stand on your front porch and watch it. LOL. I take a lot of pictures.
Didn’t see the movie but sounds like something I would like.

  18. 18
    Martha mckenna says:

I love a good thunderstorm. Could do without the thunder and lightning sometimes, but love a nice rain. We ride bikes in the rain at the beach and it was wonderful fun. Have not seen TED, but will take your word for it. Happy Friday!

  19. 19
    Nicole M. says:

Hi Carly. Stay safe during the storm. I have never minded thunder and lightning, and I actually like the rain because it sort of wipes the slate clean. I moved to SC last year to care for my grandfather, and I am not sure why, but the thunderclaps down here can shake the building. My two Italian Greyhounds don’t like storms, and Ozzy has his own thundershirt he wears during storms and fireworks. It helps Ozzy when he wears it, and I sing him to sleep. As for Ted, I am sorry but I haven’t seen it. I don’t get out much. I wish everyone a Happy Friday!!!

    donna ann says:

haven’t seen the movie but do enjoy a good storm as long as I’m not trying to drive in it ;) wishing all a great wknd

  21. 21
    anna says:

Oh yeah I love a good thunderstorm. We’ve had some nice ones recently. Thankfully none of my herd pays them any mind. The house will be rattling lightnings hitting so close and they snooze right on through it.

  22. 22
    Melissa says:

I like rain, and storms are fine as long as there’s no chance of tornadoes! Haven’t seen Ted yet, but it looks really funny.

  23. 23

I don’t mind storms as long as I’m inside. (I usually sleep very well when it rains.) Haven’t seen Ted, so I can’t comment. Have a great weekend everyone.

Ted? Never seen it, will look into it. Thunderstorms- I like them and all that they bring, as long as I am in the house :-) Give me a candle/flashlight and a book.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Connie Fischer says:

A thunderstorm can be both exciting and frightening. Watching the skies and it forms is an amazing show of clouds and the winds picking up can be actually refreshing especially if it’s been a hot day. You can also smell the ozone as the storm approaches. Thunder and lightening can be exciting if it’s off in the distance, but as it gets really close, it’s frightening as one worries about something being struck or losing electricity and all the loss and inconveniences that that can bring. Rain is always a blessing or a curse. Farmers need rain but in measured doses. Same goes for our lawns, trees and flowers. Rain can ruin outdoor plans too. So, depending upon one’s particular plans or water needs, a thunderstorm can make for smiles :D or frowns :(

i LOVE thunder and lightning. Used to adore listening to the storms but i don’t get them where i live now.

  31. 31

I’m not particularly afraid of rain/thunder/lightning, but I definitly don’t wish to see another ball lightning (or any other kind of lightning) at a very close range ever again.

  32. 32
    Gigi says:

I like a rain shower but where I live a thunderstorm can be dangerous.
My dog used to hide in a big closet when there was a loud thunder storm with lightening.
She lost here hearing about 2 and a half years ago when she had surgery and now she only gets upset when there is a really bad storm.

  33. 33
    Monica Squibb says:

I love watching the light show when the storms roll in. Haven’t seen Ted yed but heard it was good.

  34. 34
    TRACIE says:

Funky weather doesn’t bother me as long as I’m home, cozy and warm. Hugely because I am a native Californian and anything other than 80 degree weather is a shock to the system.
I haven’t seen Ted yet. My son did and loved it so I am waiting for it to come out on DVD.
Wishing everyone a weekend with a happy ending!

  36. 36
    Anne says:

I like bad weather when I’m inside and dry. Two of my three cats have been living in the closet this week because of all the storms. Cat number three just yawns.

Havne’t seen Ted, but seems like a renter to me because I’m not sure I’ll like it despite the generally good reviews…not enough to spend $7+.

  37. 37
    Philomena D says:

Well thunderstorms don’t really bother me unless it is right over the house.

Haven’t seen Ted and no plans to see it.

    Dogs were cute!

  38. 38
    Tracy gilpin says:

I like gentle rain, not torrential downpours because they are usually associated with damage. A lightning show across the sky (we call them heat storms) is also beautiful (agan, as long as no damage). The weather lately has been weird all across the US – we’ve suffered a lot of damage due to hurricane like storms months earlier than we are used to. The picture of your dogs is cute. My old GSD, Taz, didn’t like thunder but I think that was due to his epilepsy. My current GSD, Valkyrie, doesn’t seem affected by it either way. I know things like the thunder shirts work on children, so they should work on animals too!
As for Ted – am looking forward to it when it comes on cable….what little I’ve seen of it seems like it will be a funny movie!

Love storms. I only have one dog who really has a problem but it’s two of the cats that don’t like the storms. Try putting a thundershirt on them!!

Haven’t seen Ted yet. Still need to catch up on some summer movies.

  42. 42
    Paige says:

If I have to be out and about I’m not a fan. If I can stay at home in PJs and read or watch a scary movie than it’s all good. As for Ted haven’t yet I really don’t get a chance to go to the movies a lot.

  43. 43
    Patsy L Roberts says:

:hide: I don’t care for the thunder and lightening. My dogs are scared of it and if it atarts at night we will end up with three 80 pound dogs in our bed.
I haven’t seen Ted as of yet so I can’t really say if I like it or not. I will wait till it comes out on Netflix.

  53. 53
    Linda Henderson says:

I’d love to see a big rain here today, unfortunately it’s not in the cards. I don’t mind mild storms but since the tornado I’m very uneasy when that kind of weather rolls around. I haven’t seen Ted yet, but it looks like a fun movie. I’m kind of behind the times on watching movies. I just finally saw all of Horrible Bosses. My daughters kept telling me how funny it was so I watched it a couple of days ago. Have a wonderful Friday everyone. :snowfight: Just because I’m dreaming of cold weather.

  54. 54
    cheryl c. says:

I don’t like thunder and lightning, but I at least understand what is happening. It’s really rough on poor doggies who don’t know what is going on.

I haven’t seen TED, but I want to. I have heard that it is funny, but very crude in some parts.

Good luck with the RITA award!

I love loud and bright thunder and lightening storms, but I live in NH where they ususally are not dangerous and tornados are a very rare thing. However last nights storms really annoyed me as my husband’s flight home from Baltimore was delayed 6 hoursand the poor man didn’t arrive home until 3am.

  64. 64

I love storms. I seem to get the best sleep ever when it is storming out. Our Tasha hated thunder, fire works, any loud noises. She was 70 pounds of trembling dalmation mix. I would have loved to have something like the thundershirts if it would have helped.

I haven’t had the chance to see Ted yet but I have heard it is hilarious.

    Have a great weekend!!!!

    Donna M says:

A good old thunder storm in fun to watch when you are inside, dry & comfy. I like hearing the crack & rumble from the thunder & seeing the lightning. The damage that is often caused I dislike a lot. I don’t even mind rain! After all it is only water, won’t hurt you. Is it fun to get soaking wet, no! The air smells so fresh after a good rain, that I love.

Haven’t seen Ted, not sure I will. Maybe on DVD.

The dogs are so cute in their Thundershirts. Never heard of them before. :D

Have to say that I love the rain/thunder/lightening. I know i am odd. It seems to keep missing us here is SW MA though. My grass crunches when you walk on it and the only areas where it is green is around our vegtable garden and around the arbovite bushes that we just put in.

We may have lost the fruit trees that we planted.

  73. 73
    catslady says:

I made it home from being in the hospital for a week with pneumonia just before the storms hit. I like thunderstorms but what we had last night was awful! 60mph wind, torrential rain and tornadoes hitting only a few miles away is more than I like.

I missed the Plotmonkeys past couple of weeks. I still have a few weeks of recuperation to go and limited time on the computer. I will be stopping in every chance I get!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! :flowers4you:

    Kretch says:

I never used to mind a little thunder and lightning, or even rain, but that was in California. Now I live in Florida and it’s a whole other thing. The lightning is pretty frightening and it happens a lot – and it strikes the ground frequently. The rain isn’t too bad, even though it pours down, it’s usually over quickly, so I don’t mind it too much. I haven’t seen TED yet, but I heard it was good. :D

  78. 78
    Lisa B says:

Is Ted the movie with the bear? Then no. lol Thundershirts are those the ones that are supposed to keep dogs calm for walking etc. Love to hear if they worked. We got some wicked storms here the other night. Hate when they go through at night and you can’t see anything.

I love to hear the rain, especially on the roof of my sunroom. I live in Florida, the lightning capital of the United States, so we get booms and bolts whether we like them or not. I’m very respectful of lightning and have been stuck on a river in a canoe where bolts were hitting all around us. So, no, I could do without lightning, thank you. My Maltese starts getting nervous when he hears rain because he figures there is more to come and he is terrified of thunder and lightning.

    I haven’t seen “Ted.”

  82. 82
    Diana D says:

Rain…thunder…lightening? Been so long since I’ve seen or heard any of these that I’m not sure how I feel about them. Pretty sure I’d be so happy to see the rain that I wouldn’t care if thunder and lightening came with. :rainman:

  83. 83
    Pamiam says:

I love thunderstorms especially in the summer. :rainman: That may be because where I live in So Cal we don’t get very many in winter or summer. I love opening up the whole house during a summer storm and smelling the rain. My cats disagree with the thunder but they just stay close.
I haven’t seen Ted but my boss said it was hilarious. :rotfl1:

I absolutely love the rain!!! Lightening and thunderstorms are awesom too but I don’t get to enjoy them often at all since I live in southern california. I really wish it would rain more here though!
I haven’t seen Ted yet but I wanna see it really, really bad! I adore Mila Kunis and I love anything Seth McFarlane does… almost… not the Cleveland show so much though…

    Marie says:

I thought Ted was so funny!!! Couldn’t stop laughing. They say laughter is good medicine… well I ought to be feeling great right now! (but I’m not, see below….)

I love rain :rainman: , thunder is okay except when it is very close and rattles the house.
Lightning is beautiful to watch at times, but when the snake lightning starts really close to me, I do not like it at all and become very anxious. :hide:
Lightning has hit our home on several different occasions. NOT a good thing to go through!
If I’m on the road and get caught in lightning, I pull over somewhere until the worse is gone. Then after I calm down, I drive on……

I am  today. This week I have had sniffles and the last 3 days I’ve had a bad sore throat, lots of coughing, aches and pains, but no fever yet.

Hate the thunder, love the soothing sound of rain. My 8 month old puppy barks at the thunder. It would be funny if it wasn’t so annoying! Don’t want to see Ted as it seems to be a rip-off of a comic strip called “Imagine That” that my daughter enjoys. Younger daughter’s wedding pictures are in!!! Can’t wait to see them!!!

  92. 92
    Sue P says:

Love a soft, gentle rain. Thunder and lightening not so bad if it’s not a huge storm where we are hiding in the basement. And these are easier to cope with during daylight hours! Sorry, haven’t seen Ted. Looks a litlle perverted to me though.

  93. 93
    Donna says:

I don’[t mind the rain I just hate all the noise…lol Mt dogs aren’t crazy for it especially Rocky who is 10 months old and a Great Pyrenese (big doggie)

I don’t like thunderstorms, although the excitement of their arrival announced by TV weather people is exciting. I do love to listen to it rain, especially if it is a light rain and I can sit on my porch and not get wet. I have not seen Ted and likely won’t until it comes out on DVD. Sounds like it will be worth the rental.

    Glittergirl says:

As a child I was frightened :hide: by Thunder & Lightning…My Mother, bless her heart, took me by the hand :hugging: and made me stand on the hill behind our house and watch the “display of God’s Awesomeness”. She pointed out the beauty of it all and how the thunder came after the lightning and to count the seconds  to see how far away it was. My Mother is awesome and I am lovingly  caring for her today :applause:

    Kelly says:

I love the sound of rain & thunder, but the actuality… In the past I might’ve said I liked it, but we’ve had some WICKED thunderstorms the past couple of years and I live in the lightning capital of the Northern Hemisphere (Tampa) and sometimes its downright scary. :hide: Like last Saturday night — even the animals were scared and they aren’t usually. And last Sunday when I want out on a boat with friends for the first time and we got caught in the middle of a storm that came out of nowhere and was more like squall. Harrowing doesn’t begin to describe that event. This was me: :praying:

I just love the coats for your dogs!! Somehow, I think my cat Oscar would be quite indignant if I tried to put one of those on him!! LOL
I’ve always equated thunderstorms with summer afternoons. After a blistering hot Australian summer’s day, I used to love the afternoon storming bringing its cool relief. Have never liked the noise and threat of damage though.
As a mum, I have to brave it out for the kids to lessen their fear. We often discuss the how and why of the storms, and within their fear now there is also wonder at the miracle of God’s creation! So, yes, we still tremble, even me, but we also marvel. :cheer:

  125. 125
    Iris says:

I don’t mind the rain as long as I’m inside and dry. Love the thunder and lightening as long as they are not close. The dogs don’t like it and the newest edition to the brood, an American Bulldog who is 4 mos old decided to sing along with the thunder night before last when the storms blew through here. It made for an enjoyable storm, and a late, late night.

Still not a fan of storms and central Kentucky is getting read for a doozer! I can hear it coming in now….

Rain in moderation is okay but that’s about it. Years ago, too much rain caused mudslides in my neighborhood which damaged a house, apart from the downed trees and such. I’m not bothered by thunder and lightning specifically; sudden, loud noises of any kind can startle me.

Hope the pups get through okay.

  166. 166

I’ve always hated thunderstorms since I was a small child. In my early years, if a thundershower would come after my parents put me to bed they would find me with my head under all the covers and my feet on my pillow. As I got older, I stopped that bad habit – which worried my parents because they were afraid that I would suffocate. :fainting: As far as the movie “Ted” goes, I’ve never seen it and probably won’t unless it comes on to TV.
