The Oscars Recap
Janelle Icon

So, how many of you watched The Oscar’s last night?  I watched the red carpet preview, then the Oscar show, and enjoyed both.  I always enjoy seeing what the women are wearing, and if you missed that part, I did a commentary on my Facebook Fan Page that you can CHECK OUT HERE  and add your own comments.  It was a lot of fun!

Some of the highlights of the show, for me, were who won — like Meryl Streep.  So happy to see her win after YEARS of being nominated.  I know this is her third Oscar, but it’s so well deserved.  She’s such an amazing actress.  A lot of the awards went to The Artist, which I haven’t seen, so I can’t judge on that.  Has anyone else seen The Artist?  Is it worth watching (Just because it won a few Oscars doesn’t mean it’s worth watching, LOL.).  It’s a silent, black & white movie, and that just doesn’t appeal to me.

I heard about the Sacha Baron Cohen debacle with Ryan Seacrest, but didn’t see it happen on the channel I was watching, so of course I found it on YouTube.  If you’d like to see it for yourself, you can do so here:  RYAN SECRET & SACHA BARON COHEN.

For me, the best dressed actress was Milla Jovovich.  Absolutely beautiful from head to toes!

And the worst dressed for me, was Rooney Mara.  The dress she wore was so unflattering in design, and even the color of her.  I wasn’t a fan at all.  What were those flaps over her breasts???

So, what were some of the Oscar highlights for you?

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

I still have yet to see most of the nominated movies. Yesterday, I saw “The Artist”. I wouldn’t recommend it to the ‘casual movie goer”. It is French (think quiet, not just because it’s silent, but there’s not much plot), silent, very arty. I think the reason it won was because it was ‘different’. None of the other movies stood out to the academy. I really enjoyed it, despite a few slow spots, but I can’t imagine it having a world wide interest.

I have yet to watch the arrivals (I recorded on my dvr the actors/actresses arrivals). So, I can’t yet comment on that. All I know is J Lo looked trampy, but what’s new. The arrival shows love her. Me, I am a “Classic, shouldn’t see anything that I should not see” type of gal.

If you want to see a great movie, see “My Life With Marilyn”. I am not a Marilyn Monroe fan. I loved it. Again, it’s a little slice of life movie. No big storyline. However, the acting is amazing. I remember thinking I was watching a documentary. Seriously, Kenneth Branaugh and Michelle Williams (in addition to the movie not be nominated at least for Best Picture) were robbed. I still think about it and it’s been over a month since I saw it. Loved it.

I had reservations about The Artist and probably wont’ go and see it. Not my thing. I love Michelle Williams so will probably catch My Life With Marilyn when it comes out on DVD.

So far, I love Penelope Cruz’s dress (the blue kind of netty dress). Very pretty.

I didn’t watch the pre-show or the Oscars–just not into it this year since I hadn’t seen much of anything that was nominated. But I did see your dress recap Janelle. I think Glenn Close looked absolutely amazing!

I haven’t checked out your Facebook comments but I will later. The only movies I have seen were The Descendants & The Help both of which is enjoyed a great deal. I thought Octavia Spencer look great but Melissa McCarthy not so much. The Artist is not a movie I would probably choose to see but after all the awards it does make me curious. Some of the others I will probably watch after they are out on DVD.

I did not care a lot for the coverage by OTRC, but the second coverage of Red Carpet arrivals I did enjoy. Billy Crystal did a good job in my humble opinion. When Octavia Spencer won she was so emotional it brought tears to my eyes. I’m really happy for her. I was disappointed that George Clooney did not win over the French actor. :doh1: In fact I was rather disappointed that a French film won! Aren’t the Oscar’s for American movies? :? I thought maybe it should be in the Foreign Film catagory.

Thanks Janelle, for letting us recap. I love the Oscars have been watching more years than I care to think about! In fact, I miss my Mom because when I was much younger we watched together & after I was no longer living at home we usually talked about the Oscars the next day. I love movies despite the fact that I usually watch on DVD these days. :applause: 8)

I catch ‘em all on DVDs, too, Donna! Too expensive to go to the movies on a regular basis!

I just saw a recap (and your fb page). Seriously, I loved Octavia…her dress and her speech. How refreshing when someone who is the ‘odds on favorite’ to win an award, genuinely is taken aback when they win. Her dress was amazing (not being stick thin, I can appreciate that). Still love Penelope’s dress, though. I like the comparasin to Grace Kelly…that’s probably why I gravitated to it.

Someone needs to give Rooney a piece of chicken. And a cookie. Or two. I was over with Tori/Lori Carrington and Eve Mardis dishing on the show. We are not nice people. I was disappointed that The Artist won as much as it did, esp because I think George should have won, along with the movie.

There were a few outstanding dresses, but many of them were just god-awful. What the heck were they thinking? And the hair? Hellooo…this is not the time for the ‘fake, windswept look”. I want glamor damn it! Olivia was gorgeous!! Gwen looked amazing! I want that dress. Too bad I will never be able to wear it. Angie’s dress was killer! Sasha is an idiot!!!

thank who-ever for Billy Crystal! He should just be the host.

for me it was Chris Rock that saved it! before that I was really bored with the whole thing and not happy that it was turning out as disappointing as last year’s Oscars :impatient:
