Taking A Poll . . .
Janelle Icon

I’m taking a poll on my Facebook page, and if you all have a moment, if you’d click on the link and give me your input, I’d really appreciate it!  I’m asking readers what level of heat they prefer in their romance novels.  I’m contemplating writing a new series later this year, and I’m interested in seeing what readers prefer.  You can choose from SWEET (Kissing and handholding only), SENSUAL (Traditonal sex scens that focus on the intimacy between the couple), SCORCHER (Explicit sex scenes and language between hero and heroine), OFF THE CHARTS (Graphic and frequent sex scenes considered erotic and/or kinky).

GO HERE TO VOTE!

Once you’ve voted, come back here and let’s discuss what level of heat you prefer in your romance novels, and why.  Personally, I like SCORCHERS.  :hothot:

Janelle

JanelleJanelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

I do enjoy scorchers but I do need some emotion involved.

I kind of like it all and it totally depends on what the story is, so the level of heat has to fit the storyline.

Scorchers are my favorite, but I’m up for any level depending on my mood. Sometimes something sweet is all I want while other times I want an off the charts book. Luckily I have authors for every level. :D

Recently, I’ve preferred sensual because it seems so many of the hotter books are just focusing on the mechanics and not on the emotional component to sex as well. It’s as uninteresting as reading “insert tab m into slot f”. There’s more to a good book than explicit sex.

Can’t vote on Facebook, but I prefer SENSUAL. I like the emotional telling of the scene and not just the ‘they did it’ aspect of it.

Now, if you can write a SCORCHER that includes all the emotions…well that would be just fine too. :blushing:

I’m a combination! Scorcher is okay but I don’t care for the “kinky”. I like the couple to have a relationship and a story not just sex. That is more the sensual. Sweet usually doesn’t have a story that appeals to me. The few “erotic” books I’ve read mostly seem to be a reason for four letter words & sex but I like my books to have more than that. It is the story that keeps me coming back, the suspense, the wondering if there is going to be a HEA. :reading:

By the way, I like the picture of you on Facebook. Love your hair. I don’t really spend much time at Facebook. It is always changing & I don’t seem to catch up!! My two youngest grandkids are the ones that got me to join!! 8)

    Enjoy your day.

Sensual and Scorcher :hothot: are my favorites. Depending on my mood I can do an occasional sweet :inlove: and once in awhile I have been known to read an off the charts. :onfire:

Hey Janelle, I love both SCORCHERS AND OFF THE CHARTS. I have been lately reading both and the stories complement all the extra physical activity. If you remember your Wilde series is extremely, extremely :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: and I still love them because I got your point for telling a really good story attached to them so please write an EXTREMELY :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: :hothot: book and I will read it with more than bells on. So thank you in advance for these coming stories. Monica T. :devilbanana: :devilbanana: :devilbanana: :devilbanana:

Thanks, Monica — I still love my Wilde family, too. Although those books were super hot, it was all about character and emotion — not just the sex. Those are the kinds of books I love to read, and write! :flowers4you:

I just remembered it was Eric Wilde and Jillian Richardson and their story was so hot and good. Those stories light up my life.

Thanks for the votes, everyone! Looks like the “scorcher” seems to be the most popular! I love reading and writing scorchers, but I’m in agreement with you guys — there must be character development and emotion to the story!

Hey Janelle, I like this poll. I chose sensual, but like Liza I have my moments. I love the intimacy between couples when reading those scenes. I must say that I do have my limits. Too graphic is too much for me. :boohoo:

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

It really depends on the characters and the story. I’m not a huge fan of Sweet romance but I’ve read a few good books with it. I’m happy with Sensual or Scorchers because you get the sex scenes and the intimacy between the couple. When it comes to Off the Charts it really has to fit the characters. I’ve read some that were really great and others that were really horrible.

R :onfire1: scorcher (at least) with the emotional connection- not just about sex!

I like scorchers and even off the charts, but very few romances with less than that work for me because most don’t seem… realistic? I’m not sure that’s the word I’m looking for but most of the “sweet” romances just fall flat for me in terms of passionate love. HOWEVER, I do still read YA books and in those it works great. I love a good romantic YA where all the passion is a “will they or wont they” type thing and not graphic when there is sex involved. In that genre it works. But with books where characters are adults and then some? Not so much lol
