I named my son after U2's Joshua Tree album. How was I to know everyone else would name their kid Joshua, too?

If he'd been a girl, I wanted to name him Aislynn Blythe, which my mother hated because in my family we have the (very Catholic) tradition of naming the girls Mary. So I named my cat Aislynn.

Since I couldn't access this website yesterday - probably something on my end - I wanted to make a comment.

My daughter hates her name! Her Dad and I had tried for 4 years without any luck getting pregnant. We knew there was a chance I couldn't have kids but we wanted to try anyway. We could always come up with girl names and wanted to be ready just in case. We watched the Last Boy Scout with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans in it. Bruce's daughter in the movie is named Darian. We fell in love with the name. We liked it because it was different but not off the wall outragious like some. Never in our wildest dreams did we think she would end up with the character's attitude as well. LOL

Now boy names were a totally different subject. We had the hardest time with that. We finally had settled on one right before we had Darian Rae. Since we didn't use it my brother-in-law took it so there was a Devon Michael. Then we I got pregnant and we found out it was going to be a boy we were hung up again. Luckily for him, we settled on Garrett Scott before he was born.

Come to think of it, my brother-in-law took the girl name we had picked out incase Garrett was a girl. So we have a Haylee as well in the family. LOL

I want you to know you are not alone. My daughter hates her name as well and shortened it because of that fact. She did tell use she was going to do it. As for my son I thought long and hard about names and decided on two from the Bible. So cheer up :cheer: It's the season of giving and celebration. And have a Merry Christmas.

I haven't got pets or children yet and don't know what I would call any children I do have.
I don't recall ever hating my name, although I do recall disliking how it was spelled (and sometimes still do). My full first name is Lyndell (pronounced like Lyndal), but since so many people mispronounce it even now, I tend to go by Lyn. I swear that we all hate something about our lives at some point during our lifes, even if we make peace with the name later.

Reading that you thought you should have been a Julia, Julie - I'm surprised that you didn't opt to go with Julia when you started writing.

We love pets and are dog people but we are spur of the moment pet owners. Every time we've gotten a new pet it wasn't planed.

We bought an Airedale and had no name picked out for her. She was named by my mom during a "puppy moment" in the house. To stop the puppy from doing something she wasn't supposed to my mom said "stop that you little missy" and Missy stuck. That became her name.

Our current dog got her name because of her coloring. She is the color of brandy and that's what her name is.
