Multi-published, best-selling author, Shiloh Walker, is our guest blogger this week for our ONE THING series…where authors share their hard-earned knowledge in response to this question: What is the ONE THING you know now that you wish you’d known then?
The one thing I wish I knew before I was published is how much non-writing work is involved in being a writer. Oh, man, was I clueless. I mean, I was prepared for edits. That’s part of it. But the other stuff? The promo, the biz aspects, it’s mind-boggling…
You can always come home. Second chances come a little harder.
Chase and Zoe were the high school golden couple. Football captain, cheerleader, prom royalty. After graduation, though, Chase couldn’t resist the urge to experience life outside their small town. He didn’t exactly expect Zoe to wait twelve years for him, but now that he’s back, he finds some small part of him hoping she did.
It’s no big surprise she’s married. The kick in the face is she married his best friend.
Zoe was devastated when Chase left, but she’s filed those bittersweet memories under “Moved On”. She loves her life, and loves her husband. She has all she needs. And Chase keeps an honorable distance.
One cold, wet, miserable day, tragedy turns Zoe’s world upside down. Chase never expected her to simply fall into his arms, but a man can dream. Except his dream doesn’t include the fact that this time, she’s the one hitting the road…and he’s the one left behind.
Warning… This story contains heartbreak, heartache and one last chance for two lovers to find each other.
Shiloh is giving away a digital copy of a backlist book to a lucky reader…just comment for your chance to win!

By all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

I’m sure that is a very overwhelming aspect of the biz. Just watching Kate Middleton yesterday coming out on that balcony and her “Oh, Wow!” at how many people were now watching her makes me think that’s probably how you felt when it came to all the extra promo/fan events. The book above sounds wonderful and so emotional. I’ll add it to my tbb list.

Hey Shiloh, welcome to the jungle…(oooh, that song just popped into my head…LOL!!!) It’s great to see you here. I hope you are enjoying your time swinging with us.
I’m in a great position as a beginner because I’m learning so much from those who have paved the way for me. I’ve learned so much from my pubbed author friends, that could fill a book. As a reader, I never realized how much more went into writing a book, than simply writing. Thank you for stopping by to share your wisdom. See you around the blogosphere.
Have a great day everyone!
BTW: don’t enter me into the contest. I just wanted to share the love for Shiloh and my beloved
Peace and love,
Paula R.

Being a writer is like any other entrepreneurial endeavor, I guess. Even the best mousetrap still would need marketing.

I wouldn’t change a thing; you learn as you go, sometimes the learning is painful but well worth it at the end.

hi Shiloh:)
wow, a lot of authors on “one thing” refer to how unexpected and hard work it is to do all the work that comes along with being an author! I hope the good outweighs the tough spots though
Comment
Shiloh, I know I’m a bit late but I just had to tell you how wonderful I think you are. I have been a fan for sometime now and your books are always a sure thing for me. Keep on writing and I’ll keep on reading!

Great insight, thanks for sharing. What would you have done differently if you knew this before becoming a published author? If you could do anything:)
BTW, I love this banana icon… too funny
