So, last night was the biggest awards show of the night . . . The Oscars. Did you watch the show? I did, and I have to say that I loved Anne Hathaway and James Franco as hosts. They did a great job with lots of laughs.
I have to confess that my very favorite part of the Oscars is watching the red carpet before the show to see what all the women are wearing. I thought Natalie Portman looked stunning in her purple gown and pregnant belly and Halle Berry WOWED in a white sparkling Marchesa gown. Michelle Williams was another big winner for me in her gorgeous white Chanel gown. In fact, the color white seemed to be the color of the night when it came to a lot of the gowns on the red carpet.
I have to admit that the only movies I saw in the best picture category was The Social Network and Toy Story 3, so I really couldn’t judge that category, or many of the other categories like best actor/actress,or best supporting actor/actress. I intend to watch them all when they come out in DVD. But overall, I really enjoyed the show!
So, what about you? Did you watch the Oscars? Or the pre-show on the red carpet? What did you like about the show or fashions? What didn’t you like? Let’s talk the Oscars!
PS: Don’t forget…tonight, Monday, February 28, at 8pm EST, all four of the Plotmonkeys will be chatting LIVE on Internet Radio, at Secrets of a Romance Writer’s Husband! Janelle Denison finds it hard to believe that it’s been nearly 25 years since she first started writing romance novels. At first, it was a way to pass idle time while her husband worked swing shift, but before long it became an obsession to get published. Luckily, she kept at it (it took her over 5 years to get that first book published!) and is now a Waldenbooks, Barnes & Noble, and USA Today Bestselling author! Now, after selling over 45 plus novels, she finds that her Plotmonkey pals help to keep her stories fresh and unique, and she can’t imagine writing a story without their input. Janelle lives in Oregon with her husband, Don, along with two teenage daughters that keep life interesting.

Sorry, didn’t watch. But these gowns are gorgeous!

I watched most of the show. Fell asleep about half way through, but woke up in time for the big 3 awards. I was pulling for Natalie Portman and Colin Firth to win, so I was very happy with the results. I’ve only see Toy Story 3 of the best picture noms, but was fine with The King’s Speech winning. I love Colin Firth, and have wanted to see this movie since I saw the first preview.
Loved Anne Hathaway as host, but thought James Franco seemed to be a bit off most of the night. Thought most of the fashion was amazing, with just a few misses.
Comment
I heard thru the tweetvine he was toasted. And I tend to believe it since I had another source that said the same thing. And a good one.
Comment
Yeah, I agree James was a bit blah. But I loved Anne! She’s very intertaining.
Comment
I loved Anne, and really think James was smoking something between appearances.

I watched some of it. Love Natalie Portman, thought her gown was great, but hated her earrings. Halle Berry is always gorgeous…how can she not be?!?! I thought Cate Blanchett’s gown was a little bizarre, but not in an ugly way.
Comment
Yeah, she could have worn better earrings, and her hair hanging to one side didn’t do it for me, either. But the gown was gorgeous, and she had that pregnant, happy glow about her.
Comment
It was actually the best gown she wore all ‘awards season”. I guess she saved the best for last (I agree about the hair thing, hate the sideswept hair).

I like the red carpet show better than the awards show. I don’t watch movies or TV much so I hadn’t even heard of a lot of the movies or the people that were nominated. I do enjoy seeing the beautiful (and not so beautiful) dresses on the red carpet though. Who was the young girl that was nominated for something? They showed a movie clip of her & another woman & 2 men & looked like she had been beaten up. That looked like it might be a good movie.

I thought they were pretty good overall. I loved Kirk Douglas. I think he stole the show in the beginning and it snowballed from there. Loved seeing Anne in a tux and Franco in a dress- and the Charlie Sheen comment was priceless!!
The moment that stuck with me too, was the NYU student who won for best short and thanking his mom for doing craft services. After spending almost two weeks doing the same thing in LA with The Spawn on her movie shoot, I can tell you it’s not easy but was it appreciated! I don’t think most of them had eaten a good meal since they had been home last- and it wasn’t subs and pizza which is what they usually get!
Trying to get back into my routine after two weeks away ain’t easy!!

Loved Michelle Williams’ dress (Chanel) and Amy Adams’ dress….weird because those were the first two I saw and l just fell in love with them. I liked Jennifer Hudson’s dress, but not a fan of orange. Just don’t like orange. I thought Cate Blanchett’s dress should be hanging on a wall as art, not a dress.
Comment
Jennifer Hudson looked amazing — so skinny! And yeah, Cate’s dress looked too “alien” for me. Not impressed with that one!

I didn’t watch the Oscars. Sorry. Natalie Portman’s gown is gorgeous and also Michelle Williams. Halle Berry’s would have been gorgeous if it didn’t have that froth on the bottom which looks odd like some strange mist is crawling up her body.

Kate Blanchette’s dress was like…Origami Gone Wrong(tm). I like Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress and loved Sandra Bullock in red! (Not as much as her dress last year, but she looked fab!)
Anne Hathaway had to carry the show. Franco looked and acted like he’d been smokin’ *stuff*.
The highlights for me was Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. They rocked. And the “musical” montage.
All in all, I was disappointed in the production. As I don’t see any of the movies until they hit video, I’ll reserve my opinion on the awards, though True Grit is a sentimental favorite but Colin Firth was amazing so kudos to him.

Actually, I thought it was one of the dullest Oscars I’ve seen in years…
Hathaway was too darned perky and Franco just looked totally stoned.
I did, however, love a lot of the gowns–Halle and Natalie being my two faves, too. Cate Blanchett looked like she was wearing the upholstery off an old chair.
I was thrilled that Colin Firth and The King’s Speech won. We just went to see it on Friday and absolutely adored that movie. Just fantastic. I had seen 5 of the 10 nominees, and it definitely had my vote among those.

I was here earlier, wrote my comments but couldn’t get them posted! Let’s see if it works now!
Natalie Portman looked lovely as did Hallie Berry. Hallie is such a gorgeous lady, Sandra Bullock looked great as did many others.
Out of the 15 categories on the ballot I got 10 correct which is funny as I have not seen any of the movies!
I will probably see The King’s Speech when it is on DVD, maybe some of the others.
Sorry Leslie, I didn’t think the show was dull!!! But not fantastice either! One part I was disappointed in was the first hour or so of On The Red Carpet. It seemed like more time was spent showing where all their cameras were set up, speaking with the commentators maybe they should have waited a bit to start! I tune in to that part to watch the celebs, the gowns, etc. I’ve been reading comments on some of the gowns, several were called “frumpy”! sorry to say I don’t get high fasion! How can a gown that cost several thousand dollars be called frumpy! Maybe it just wasn’t a good choice for the person wearing it. Anyway, I loved Jennifer Hudson’s dress in orange. One of my favorite colors, I wear it a lot!
As for the Oscars themselves I thought there were not a lot of surprises in the winners. Our paper publishes a ballot every year that you can fill out to enter a contest. I don’t enter the contest but I filled out the ballot for my own amusement!
Okay, I’m going to try to post this now!!

Glad you enjoyed it Donna…to me, the most entertaining part was following the Twitter streams about how bloody awful it was…lolol!
I forgot to mention one of my favorite dresses of the night–Reese Witherspoon! Adored her entire look.

I loved her dress, but it said, “Julia Roberts’ oscar dress”, but I adored her hair :)

For some reason this posted as a reply to someone else. Must be bugs in the system today.

No I didn’t watch the Oscars at all; I did however see some of the dresses on the news and the few I saw were spectacular! Halle Berry, Oh boy beautiful!
Comment
I only saw a few minutes of the Oscars. I did tune in the day after to check out the dresses. There were some amazing dresses this year. I look forward to the Fashion Police breaking it all down!

Okay, I have to admit that for the first time in years I watched the whole thing, from early Red Carpet through to the after Oscar reports and Oprah’s wrap up today.
There were some great dresses, many of them worn by Anne Hathaway. Did you know that the red Valentino she wore on the red carpet was not “allowed” on stage? No red on the presenters. I wonder why.
I especially enjoyed two of the acceptance speeches -
1)Writing (Original Screenplay) – The King’s Speech by David Seidler. Oldest winner in this category – “My Father always said I was a late bloomer.”
2) Best Supporting Actor – Christian Bale, who got totally choked up when he thanked his wife and daughter. Good to see him clean and sober and humbled.
Franco may have been stoned or maybe just tired. He is taking university classes on the East coast and after leaving the Governor’s Ball party took a red eye back and was in class this morning. Anne had really nice things to say about him.

I dive straight into the fashion. The other I will learn without much effort.

Didn’t watch any of it…but do like seeing the dresses online today. Some are very pretty.

A P.S. to my comment yesterday! I loved Kirk Douglas, as I have seen him in person many, many years ago he is always special to me! I have the dubious distinction of saying “I tripped Kirk Douglas!”. A story for another time!
