Any of you who belong to Romance Writers of America might be aware that the elections for the new national Board of Directors are officially underway. Ballots were sent out September 1, and have to be back by September 30.
But, did you know I’m running for a seat on that board?!?
It’s true. Since leaving Florida 4 years ago, I haven’t found a “home chapter” that I really adore the way I did FL-STAR–the chapter I helped co-found in 1997. And to be honest, I really miss interacting with authors and having a lot of hands-on involvement with a professional writer’s group. I served in a number of offices in STAR, including president, newsletter editor, PAN liaison, conference chair…so it’s really been hard for me to sit on the sidelines and have no real professional outlet. I have a lot of online interaction, but I really wanted to get involved again, at a higher level, and I figured running for a seat on the board would be a great way to do that.
Anyway, if you’re a member, I would sincerely appreciate you considering giving me your vote for Region 1 Director. The RWA website has a whole q&a section where candidates talk about their goals, experience, etc. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s definitely worth checking out: http://www.rwanational.org/cs/2010_elections
And while you’re there, look for another familiar name from the jungle! Our own Penny “Silver” James is also running. Wouldn’t it be cool to have two jungle regulars on the board?

Leslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

Good Luck on the voting. I’m sure RWA needs people like you & Silver.
Ohhhh, Another Wild Wedding Night! Not until June!! You have no contract, oh no. :*&#!: What about the “Cold” books or are they done? I hope that will change real soon and you can tell us about something new in the works.

Actually, Another Wild Wedding Night comes out in October! The June book is the one I’m finishing up writing now.
No word on whether there will be any more Parrish books…keeping my fingers crossed!

Greeting Plotmonkeys and Jungle Crawlers!
I’m so sorry I’ve been absent but to tell you the truth I was not in a good mind set and felt I needed to climb out of it before swinging again through the Jungle. I didn’t want to be the proverbial wet blanket and I didn’t feel I had anything to contribute during that time anyway.
But as the old song says, “I can see clearly now, the rain is gone…”
Congratulations Leslie and Silver on jumping into the frying pan and running for a national board position. I received my notice in the mail yesterday but haven’t had a chance to really look at it. But I will! And I will vote!
Congratulations again to Alannah for being a finalist in the Kensington contest! How cool is that! Woo Hoo!
Hope everyone is doing well,

Cher! Great to see you back! I swear, we were *just* talking about you 2 days ago, wondering where you’d been! Really glad to see you again and glad the mental cobwebs have been swept away. Believe me, I have those times myself and it’s always nice to come out the other side and make yourself see the light rather than nothing but the depressing and the dark!

Thanks, Leslie.
It’s great to be back and it’s nice to know you guys missed me. I missed you guys too believe me!
I was in a real slump but I clawed my way out and I’m back in “fighting” shape.
Great to be back in the Jungle

Not happy about you being contractless. I have my fingers crossed that these pub houses realize the gem they are missing in you Parrish books.
Peace and love,
