So you all know by now that I’ve been Jazzercising for…oh, geez…two years? A year and a half, at least. Anyway, one of the things that I love about this form of exercise, beyond the weight loss (still holding at 30 pounds) and the dancing–it’s the music.
Now that I homeschool, I don’t drive around a lot, which means I don’t listen to the radio as much as I used to. And when I do, I tend (as people my age often do, LOL!) listen to oldies stations. I actually listen to a mix of oldies and new releases, but all are on the softer side. I like to relax and sing while I drive.
But Jazzercise introduces me to music and artists I probably wouldn’t hear otherwise–the Veronicas and Lady Gaga being my favorites, but also the Ting-Tings, the Black-Eyed Peas, Weezer and Sean Paul.
But guess what? This post isn’t actually about new artists. My daughter was telling me yesterday about an artist (whose name escapes me at the moment) who released a cover of the Rolling Stone’s song, “Painted Black.” I couldn’t imagine what it would sound like, so I listened. I’m not a huge Stones fan, to be honest, and I thought the dance mix remake was pretty catchy.
Usually, I hate when old songs are redone. In Jazzercise, we work out to Michael Buble’s version of “Heartache Tonight” which was originally recorded by the Eagles. The Eagles are one of my top ten favorite bands of all time, but the Buble version has grown on me. I don’t love it (mostly because the routine is hell on the inner thighs and lower abs, my two problem areas!) but it’s not bad.
There are some songs I never want to hear remade. Songs that are so near and dear to me–songs I turn up loud when they come on and sometimes (usually) sing at the top of my lungs.
The one that I really love–the one I hope no one ever remakes because no one has this artist’s signature raspy voice–is Bryan Adam’s “I Do It for You” (which most people know as the theme from the movie, Prince of Thieves.) I love, love, LOVE that song. It’s the epitome of romance.
I also love just about every ballad recorded by Aerosmith (“Crying,” “Crazy,” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” come to mind), “Beth” by KISS and “Don’t Let it End” by Styx (oh, come on, who am I kidding…I love any and all of their songs and play all of them REALLY loud when they come on the radio.)
Love songs are different from all the others…they have to grab you at the heart. The melodies and lyrics have to be just right…but the singer makes a huge difference, too. (Which is probably why I prefer love songs sung by men because I can get lost in a fantasy that he’s singing to me.)
So share with me…what is the one song that pops into your mind when someone asks, “What’s your favorite LOVE song?”

By all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

So many choices! There’s “Love the Way You Love Me” by John Michael Montgomery, “Once in a Lifetime Love” by Keith Urban, “Shameless” by Garth Brooks, “Heaven” by Bryan Adams, “Home” by Michael Buble, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” by Elvis….. I can’t pick just one!
Comment
The Elvis song is just classic…that voice. Those eyes. ::sigh::

The Dance by Garth Brooks.
Didn’t even have to think about it. There are many, many others that I love but that is the big one.
I love my music, but not the new stuff for the most part, unless it falls into the rock category. I’m not into the dance music and hip-hop/rap stuff. My radio tends to be on Country, Classic Rock or over on Hair Nation on Sirus radio. I love my hair bands!! (KISS Aug 17, SPAC!! Woot!!) Although I do love to listen to Buble- his voice is like a nice single malt being slowly poured over ice. It can send shivers down my spine. I love Sinatra, Martin, Sammy and the rest of the Rat Pack too.
Meat Loaf, Poison, Journey, Def Lepprd, Styx, REO and on and on and on…
I may have to grow older, but I don’t have to grow up!!!
And I’m not a big Stones fan either.
Comment
ev, we have very similar taste in rock bands! Meatloaf has a ballad I love, too. For the life of me, I can’t think of it now, though!
Comment
I will assume it’s not Paradise. Most likely Two out of Three Ain’t Bad, which is one of my faves. When I got my new jeep one of the first things I did was download all of his albums into the computer system. I love Meat but damn his lead guitarist, Paul Crook, is hot. I love to go to the shows and just stand in front of him. there is something about a really awesome guitar player that I love.

I don’t really have a favorite love song, but there is one song that I absolutely, positively wish was not re-done. Do you remember a few years back Madonna covered American Pie by Don McClean? That is such a classic song and she totally ruined it (IMO).
Comment
I don’t think I ever heard this…but I’m glad I didn’t. I love Madonna, but she’s better off with her own songs.
One of my favorite songs of hers was “Live to Tell.” I think it was the love scene from that awful movie she made, “Shanghai Surprise.” But I love that song.
Comment
Julie, we used to do a Jazzercise routine to the Madonna version of American Pie! I didn’t like it either.

Ugh! I hope that one doesn’t make a comeback! I love the routine for “Miles Away.” It’s one of my favorite weight routines.

Yeah it sucked.

Off topic Julie- Essence of Midnight- is that a new one?? It just popped up on my Sony site for the romance with a pub date of the 25th.
Comment
Off-topic is fine! Essence of Midnight is not new…it was published in 2005. My story in that collected, “Surrender,” was nominated for a RITA. I love that story.
It’s connected to the short story I wrote for LIP SERVICE and my Blaze, UNDENIABLE.

Ah-ha. I wish they wouldn’t do that without making it known (ie- easy to find in the description).

Too many love songs to list. LOL.
Comment
Oh, come on…pick one.

“Your song’ by Elton (Hub used to sing it to me when we were dating).
Our “song’ was “All I ask of you” from “Phantom of the Opera”

Too many to list.
Have a great day,

When you asked us what our favorite love song is, immediately this popped into my head, Three Times a Lady by Lionel Richie. Oh and how can I forget my wedding song, I Only Have Eyes For You by Art Garfunkel. There are others but can’t remember all the titles.
Comment
Those are both great! I love Lionel Richie!
Comment
The first one that comes to mind is “Three Times A Lady” by the Commodors. Slow dancing with the man who would later become my husband.
Also love “The Dance” by Garth.

Billy Joel had a lesser-known song on his “An Innocent Man” lp, which was out when Bruce and I were first getting together. The song “This Night” became *our* song, fitting so well with how we met, how we got involved. Every time I hear it, it takes me back there. I hope the girls will remember and make sure it gets played at our 50th anniversary party.
Comment
Awesome song.

Here’s a flashback. “We May Never Pass This Way Again” by Seals & Croft. I don’t know why that popped into my head.
Comment
Too many love songs, I can’t name just one! I go back to the 40′s & 50′s with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby for starters!!! I can still hear (in my mind) Hoagy Carmicheal singing Stardust, sigh! Love that song. Currently I am such a big Micheal Buble fan. I have several of his CD’s that I play a lot! One song I can’t seem to get enough of is his version of Moondance which I didn’t think I would like but I absolutely love it! Also love Dream and his song I’m Your Man, I love those lyrics.

My favorite is “In My Life” by the Beatles, followed closely by Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Off to visit you at the other site now…

The Sting/Cheryl Crowe Song – Always on Your Side – if that is considered a love song???
There are so many great ones out there. I love Pink, Lady Gaga, Andre Bocelli, too many to name.
Comment
Chose one? That’s hard for me. “Three Times a Lady” is pretty memorable. “”S Wonderful” by Gene Kelly is hard to beat, as is “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” (Fred Astaire).

I have to go back 27 yr for this one. Mama he’s Crazy by the Judds. This was a hit when I started dating my husband and he asked me to marry him. It took him 17 months of asking me every day to marry him before I said yes (I had been thru two very bad divorces). Come this Dec 16th we will be married 25 very happy years. That is why I think of this song as a love song.
Comment
My favorite is Cadillac Red by The Judds. This song is also great while riding in a convertible. Brings back memories.

U2, “All I Want is You.” Then there’s Bruce Springsteen’s “Secret Garden.” Those are both EXCELLENT. I also love Elvis’s “Fools Rush In” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” (I think it’s by the Platters).
Comment
No One by Alicia Keys is my latest fave, but I also love Say Hey by Michael Franti & Spearhead, Sade’s By Your Side
, Open Arms by Journey, and of course as a Texas girl I gotta put a country song, and ever since I was a kid I’ve imagined my wedding song being Randy Travis’ Forever and Ever, Amen

Hi Julie,
“You Are The Love Of My Life” by Carly Simon immediately pops into my head. Have a great day!
Comment
So many good love songs out there, a couple favorites of mine are ‘Unchained Melody’ and ‘My Heart Will Go On’…

favorite love song as in romantic between boy and girl, boy/boy, girl/girl or just a love song that makes you think of how much you love someone whether it be a child, parent, spouse or relative????
Going on that premise the song I always think of as my love song favorite is “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler, it’s the song that tears me up and reminds me how much I love and appreciate my Dad.Who is actually my stepfather but I’ve never looked at him that way. When I got married he gave me away not my biological father, and when we did the father daughter dance that is the song I danced to with him. Because, well…he’s always been there for me no matter what. He’s never cared that we didn’t share blood he honestly loved us as much as the ones that did share his blood and if truth be told….more than his biological kids. They never bother with him while we are always there for him when he needs us and vice versa. So…that’s my love song. Hopefully it fits your catagorey.

My favorite is probably a tie between Billy Joel’s “She’s Always A Woman To Me” and Bryan Adams’ song from Robin Hood. Both songs that I would love to have someone tell me they think of me when they hear them. I also like a lot of older-style songs like The Way You Look Tonight. BTW, I also prefer love songs by men for the same reason as you.

Hands down for me? Faithfully, by Journey.
