What is “it?”
Well, let me give you a couple of hints, and then you can guess.
1. If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know I’ve had a problem with this for years.
2. I’ve had surgery and physical therapy for it in the past.
3. Two days ago, I couldn’t even turn my head.
Got it?
Yep. Hurt my back again, something fierce.
Remember how several years ago I had to have emergency surgery on two herniated discs at the base of my spine? And how I’ve been really careful with my lower back–so careful, I started working in a recliner, or even flat on my back? Well, the problem with working that way is it puts a whooooole lot of pressure on the upper back, and the base of the neck. So I’ve now got a bulging disc up there that I have to take care of. And last week, between writing insanity, trying to finish an overdue book as well as rehearsals for the tiny little part in the local musical, my back decided to get even with me for some past slights by locking up completely. (And, well, maybe a little anniversary celebrating helped, too.
)
Went to the dr Friday & got on steroids as well as a bunch of other meds, and I have to go back to physical therapy starting next week. In the meantime, though, I’m just happy I can turn my head again.
So. Yeah. That’s what’s up with me.
Aside from that…still plugging along, trying to stay upbeat despite that and any number of other things that want to drag me down. Career not the least of them.
Speaking of career–I haven’t forgotten about promising to do a book club discussion on Cold Sight. I had really hoped to have a blog radio hour, where you guys could call in and we could talk “live” on the Internet, but Bruce just hasn’t had a chance to set it all up for me. Next time, I hope, but in the meantime let’s plan on talking about the book next Tuesday. I’m interested in discussing a few things and hope you will be, too.
Also speaking of Cold Sight, and something else I hadn’t forgotten–my little “promo” contest I’d mentioned here 3 weeks ago. Thing is, despite how wonderful many of you have been with writing reviews or plugging the book, not one single person entered the contest by emailing me the link! I even gave it an extra week, but nada. I took that to mean you just liked the book well enough to plug it for no other reason than that you’re all absofrigginglutely wonderful. And I love you. Seriously. So, many, MANY thanks for your support. Even if it doesn’t help sell a single copy, it means so very much to know people are reading and enjoying the book…even if there are only 20 or so of you reading it.
Those of you leaving today for RWA, I hope you have a fantastic time. It’s strange, the first year in MANY years that none of the four of us Plotmonkeys will be there. Well, Julie will–briefly, for the NRCA ceremony on Thursday night. (Hope we win, Julie! Let me know, okay?!) Be safe and be sure to come share all the gossip and details when you all get home.

Leslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

Sorry about your back Leslie. I cannot imagine having to deal with constant pain and discomfort like that. You are a real trooper.
Well I pimp books when I love them (even when they break my heart) because I want others to enjoy them too. Though Cold Sight was hard for me, I still recommend it to readers out there. And I hope those Parrish rom suspense keep coming. They are fantastic!
Hugs!!!

sorry about your back. hope it gets better real soon.
I did email you a link I put on my FB page recommending Cold Sight… I didn’t save the email, so not sure what happened there, but one of my friends said she bought it!

Les- I hope you feel better soon! Constant pain can be so depressing after awhile. Maybe a new recliner with heat and massage built in???
The book is on my ereader. Now I just have to find the time to
.

Sorry about your back I know how painful that can be. You might want to try NUCCA which is a form of chiropractic but a little different, I can not believe the difference it made for me I very rarely have back or neck pain now – here is a site if you want to look into it nuccachiropractic.wordpress.com.
Cold Sight was such a good book, I stood at the table at RomCon telling everyone about it and making them buy a copy. I have not gotten that wrapped up in a book in a long time and can’t wait for the next.

I hope you feel better, Leslie :)

I’m excited about the National Reader’s Choice Awards and I’m so glad that I will be driving over for the event! And WHEN you win, Leslie, I’ll made sure your award gets to you!
Hugs on your back…funny how a job that keeps us chained to a chair can be so hard on our bodies. Funny…not in a funny way. Just weird and frustrating.

Sorry to hear about your back, Leslie. I hope you recover soon and are well enough to enjoy all the activities you love-not to mention be able to write without back pain.
I like how Stacy put it…I pimped your book too, because it is just that good. A few friends came over last night for coffee and we started discussing what we were currently reading. You can bet your last dollar, your book was passed around and they loved it. The cover is an excellent persuasion too…hehe
! I did tell them however, that they had to get their own copy!!!
I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope you win the National Reader’s Choice Award!!! Here’s to you…
(be safe on your trip Julie)

Huge hugs on the back!!!
Back pain is the worst (imo) because it permeates every part of your life. It’s just a constant irritation. Hopefully the physical therapy will help and you’ll be feeling better soon!!

I just finished reading Cold Sight on Sunday. Wow! I’m so impressed with your talent.
There are people reluctant to read it because of the some of subject matter but they are missing out on an excellent, well written book. April 2011 for Cold Touch seems so far away. It gives us something to look forward to reading!
By the way, when I bought Cold Sight at Border’s there were only two out on an end display and none on the shelf under the K’s. I hope that means they had sold other copies. If anyone likes romantic suspense don’t miss out on this one.
Take care of yourself.

I hope you feel better very soon. I go to my massage therapist every other week so that my lower back and my neck stay okay. I don’t know what I’d do without her.

I haven’t got Cold Sight, but it is on my annoyingly long to buy list, but I shall eventually get there.

Just a note to say I hope you are feeling better soon, Leslie. I’ve been there years ago.

Leslie, I’m so very sorry to hear about your back. That happened to my husband about six years ago, had him down for days even with the strong pain meds the doctor prescribed. I pray you’ll feel better very soon!!!!

Leslie, sorry about your back-I sure know what back pain is. I had an OTJ injury back in 1979. Had 2 unsuccessful back surgeries and left with constant pain & numbness in both feet from it. I also had to get a pain pump put in to get off pain pills.
I have Cold Sight but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I know I’ll love it.
Feel better.

So sorry to hear this. Feel better soon.

HELP HELP HELP = re WWW contest!!!
Thanks for the heads up about the 2 contests. I entered Shiloh’s but cannot enter the WWW one. Everytime a post is setup this way, I never can enter – I follow along and type my comment, choose my mode and submit and nothing happens. Can anyone tell me how exactly to enter – what am I doing wrong? I do have a google account and have never had a problem entering other comments on other sites with a diff. setup. Thanks so much; would hate to miss a chance on winning this great prize!

Sorry to bother everyone again; I had to use Internet Explorer to enter for some reason mazilla was not compatible.

SS to hear about your back, I feel your pain, had lower vertabrae (SP?) fused when I was 20 due to a car accident, had months of pain and rehab (Heat ultrasound theraphy worked wonderfully for a while) then I had to have surgery on it about 8 years ago I think it was….and have had cortisone injections in my back a couple times…works short term but not much help in the long run….some days when it acts up I can’t even have anyone touch me, even to get up…I swear and cry…lol…anyway…even if it takes an hour to get up don’t touch me because it only makes it worse. what I’ve found that works good outside of the muscle relaxers, anti inflams and pain pills….is soaking in a hot bath or floating in the pool…for some reason it works wonders….and sometimes I can go 6-9 months before it starts hurting again….but I do have to have it cracked daily in order to get by most days…once it cracks, even if I have to have someone walk on it, it’s like…TY GOD!…lol
anyway…I’ll be thinking of you and hoping you get better
Hugs
