The Madness of Julie’s Jungle…
Julie Icon

The mix-up in the title of this blog post is entirely purposeful. My week has been crazy, crazy and I apologize for not responding to the posts on Wednesday…I was reading them all, but couldn’t sit down long enough to reply. So sorry!!

Did anyone else read this story about Baskin Robbins retiring 5 of their 31 flavors? None of those flavors are anything I would ever try, but I’m one who absolutely hates when you get accustomed to a certain flavor of something and then it is discontinued.

So…to enter this week’s contest…name one thing you’d be devastated to find out was discontinued. Food item! (Why is that on my mind so much this week?)

Since July is the best month for frozen treats, I’m going to pick Breyer’s Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I haven’t had it in over two years, but I’d still be mad if they discontinued it. Same goes for Haagen Daz mango sorbet…something that has been increasingly hard to find of late. Hmmm….

This week’s madness prize is a $20 gift card to one commenter’s online book retailer of choice! (Amazon, Borders, B&N, etc.)

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!!

A note from Leslie:
I’ve got not one but two guest interviews up today at different blogs. Please stop by and say hello, you might win a book!

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

I can’t believe they are retiring French Vanilla!! :boohoo:

As I sit here eating an English Muffin topped with Nutella and fresh blueberries, I have to admit if they took away my morning chocolate/hazelnut fix, I would be devastated. I wonder how long it would keep, cause I would be stocking up on as many jars as I could find.

    And not sharing either. :D

If you have a Costco membership, Nutella is sold in huge jars. You get 2 huge jars for just a little more than the regular jars cost.

I’m crazy about black licorice. Years ago, when I was a kid, there was an ice cream shop on the way to our cottage, and they had licorice ice cream! I swear, the best part of going to the cottage was stopping for that cone. And our little mutt loved getting her kid scoop of vanilla. The shop is out of business and I’ve never seen licorice ice cream for sale anywhere else. :(

So if black licorice disappeared, well…it just better not :D

An ice cream company made my favorite flavor, chocolate marshmallow, a limited time flavor that just showed up once a year & that was soooo not enough. When I mentioned it to someone in the store they looked at me like I was crazy & said they still have Rocky Road, it’s the same thing, but I hate tree nuts of any kind in my ice cream and Rocky Road doesn’t have those thick, yummy marshmallow chunks running through it. So I sympathize with anyone who loses their favorite flavor. :gimmehug:

I make (made?) this fabulous cheese dip, thank to a recipe that started with my hometown League of Women. It involves cream cheese and jars of various Kraft cheeses. I’m telling you, it is AMAZING dip. Once I moved here, it’s been far and away the most in-demand food item I’ve taken anywhere and I don’t know how many times I gave out the recipe. Unfortunately, Kraft discontinued Roka Blue cheese, a necessary ingredient. Hundreds, if not thousands of people are devastated :) My mom has a work around involving making her own, but it’s just not quite the same. I so need Kraft to bring back the Roka Blue!

My first thought was brand of bra – every time I find one that fits it gets discontinued and I loathe bra shopping. As to food, I use to buy this butter/garlic blend that came in a jar and was so easy to make garlic bread. Now I have to make it the old fashioned way which is really probably better for me but more work lol.

I’ve experienced something similar before. I buy produce at the farmer’s market and it breaks my heart when a vendor quits, especially after I’ve gotten to love their products. There was a man who had the world’s best (not just best at the market) pears. We’re talking organic, melt-in-your-mouth, better-than-candy, juicy sweet pears. Then he got a divorce and I have not heard of the fate of the orchard nor have I ever seen him or the pears again. :crying:

There’s a vendor who has the best kiwis, corn, and berries (when in season). If he were to quit, I may have to drive 100+ miles just to visit his farm for the produce.

As for manufactured products, if Celestial Seasonings ever stop their Mandarin Orange Spice tea, my entire family would be in mourning forever! (they’ve already gotten rid of Vanilla Hazelnut)

    Happy Friday, Everyone!

Well, as everyone here knows I live abroad in Mexico. Because of this I have to depend on the major chain stores-Walmart or Sams in this case-to import in any and all food products. For the last three years we have been buying the Jimmy Dean breakfast sausages once a week. When this weeks shopping time came around we found out that they will no longer be importing our favorite breakfast food. They will be replacing it with a lower quality and yuckie no-good German sausage. Not that German food is bad-we just like Jimmy dean! :taz:

Totally easy question. First of all, I hate, hate, hate it when Disney puts their movies in the ‘vault’, then ‘revamp’ them to make us buy it again. Also, I have still not gotten over when Clinique discontinued the Super Peony lipstick (with sunscreen) over 15 -20 years ago. Seriously, it was my lipstick all through college and worked so well for me. Oh, and they discontinued my favorite eye shadow duo and lid primer. GRRR. LOL.

My favorite is, and has been for ages, baseball nut! So they best leave that alone. I am surprised by French vanilla. I would think that would be a popular one.

French Vanilla? Really? BR has been doing this for age. I wonder what prompted the news story. Licorice used to be available only during the month of October. As a kid, I loved that flavor. Ah, black ice cream.

Hm, well sadly my like favorite ice cream flavor[s] ever were discontinued… One Sweet Whirled- the Dave Matthews Ben & Jerry one… and then this amazing strawberry mascarpone from Jeni’s Ice Cream in Columbus, Ohio.
Otherwise… you know, I’m all into mango sherbet right now. I’d be crushed if that disappeared.

    Hello,
Baskin Robbins chocolate chip is my all time favorite ice cream , but they would probably never get rid of that standard. I remember being very unhappy when Boston market discontinued their stuffing. I haven’t been back since. Have a nice weekend.

Lays broke my heart when they quit making the B-B-QUE chips in the orange bag years ago and replaced it with the ones they have now. I would hate it if Weight Watchers quit making their Three Cheese Ziti dinner I love it.

I would hate it if chocolate chip cookie dough was retired. I’m surprised that french vanilla was one of the flavors chosen to be retired- I could understand the other flavors, but vanilla? Thanks for the great giveaway- I would love an Amazon gift card if I’m chosen as the winner :).

I’d have to say M&Ms – peanut – my comfort food. Other than that I’d have to say coffee – not a food I know, but more vital to me than food. I think if either disappeared tomorrow I’d have to be medicated.
