Carrie Lofty is one of the new, upcoming stars of historical romance and we’re thrilled to have her here for our ONE THING feature! Welcome, Carrie!
Carrie, what is your take on our most important question–What is the one thing you know now that you WISH you knew when you were an aspiring writer?
Rejection isn’t always a reflection on the quality of the work. Scheduling, personal tastes, budget constraints–they all work against the kismet that is “The Call.” My guidance counselor from high school used to embarrass us with his dorky sayings, but one stayed with me: “Luck is preparation meets opportunity.” It’s very true. So keep plugging away at craft, networking and submitting until your sweat helps concoct a little luck!
Carrie has a brand new book out with Carina Press…and to one person who comments, she’ll send a copy of her most recent book, A SCOUNDREL’S KISS, the medieval sequel to her debut book, WHAT A SCOUNDREL WANTS.
Tormented by guilt. Haunted by scandal. Freed by love.
Austria, 1804
Eight years ago, composer Arie De Voss claimed his late mentor’s final symphony as his own and became an icon. But fame has a price: fear of discovery now poisons his attempts to compose a redemptive masterpiece. Until a new muse appears, intoxicating and inspiring him…
Mathilda Heidel renounced her own musical gift to marry, seeking a quiet life to escape the shame surrounding her birth. Sudden widowhood finds her tempted by song once more. An unexpected introduction to her idol, Arie De Voss, renews Mathilda’s passion for the violin–and ignites a passion for the man himself.
But when lust and lies reach a crescendo, Arie will be forced to choose: love or truth?

By all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

Welcome to the Jungle, Carrie!
Great advice concerning rejections. It’s something we all need to remember especially when they hit the mail box and set it on fire.
Have a wonderful day,
Cher

@Cher: I know better than to set my inbox on fire. I wouldn’t be getting a new computer to replace it!
@kris: Thanks!
@Talina: I give credit to the cover. I totally lucked out with that gorgeous baby!
@Colleen: I hope you enjoy them!
@Kirsten: I love musicians and creative people. They’re like YA heroes and heroines in that things are just so much more dramatic!

I have not read any of Carrie’s books but this one does look and sound like what I enjoy reading. I love mystery, suspense, intrigue with a little romance for spice in my books. This sounds like just that kind of book. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

Hey Carrie,
Songs of seduction sounds amazing. Muscisians are passionate people and the story of these two seems like one I would enjoy reading. I love that cover.

Aw, I appreciate that! Thanks so much for the support :)

Welcome to the jungle, Carrie! Your high school counselor was a very wise man! I love his quote!
Comment
I don’t know if he was wise so much as knew which pithy quotes to fling at our apathy. Maybe that’s wisdom!
Comment
Sounds like a wonderful book.
I really like the guidance counselors saying “Luck is preparation meets opportunity.”
I am going to have to put it on my refrigerator.
Comment
You know it’s a good ‘un if it penetrated my thick teenage skull and stayed with me all these years!

Medievals have always been my favorite (I just wish I could learn to spell it!). Is it necessary to read the first before this book? It sounds wonderful. And I always say perserverance is also one of the most important things.
Comment
SONG OF SEDUCTION is actually set in Napoleonic times and is a stand-alone. It’s a little bit of a departure from the two medievals I wrote for Kensington. I hope you give it a try!

Quite a twist in the tale! Verrrry interrresting! A new author and book
go onto my TBR list!!!

I love that saying. I’m keeping it.
Love love love the cover!!!

I was blessed by the cover gods. I think I owe them a plucked chicken or something ;0
Comment
I like books with a music theme. A lot of years ago I used to read Mary Burchell and she had a lot of music themed books.
Comment
I don’t think I’ve read any of hers. I’ll have to look it up. Guys musicians, especially, are hot and should be romance heroes more often!
Comment
Hi, Carrie! I can’t wait to read your new book!
I’m going to remember your quote, “Luck is preparation meets opportunity”, and spring it on my younger cousins as soon as I can.
It’s good, solid advice and should be in a fortune cookie somewhere.
Comment
He must have got it from a fortune cookie! But you can tell your young relatives that it’s TRUE!
Comment
welcome to the madness…I’ll have to look that one up…love all kinds of romance books…good luck.

Thanks! I can only claim credit for the book, not the cover. In that I just got lucky again :)
