It’s Almost Time…
Leslie Icon

for COLD SIGHT!!!

My next Leslie Parrish book will be showing up in stores at the end of this month, and I am SO excited!

First, because I love this book. But also because I love this series–and I REALLY want to write more of them! I honestly wasn’t sure about the whole “paranormal” thing when I decided to write this book, but I can tell you I am really glad I gave  it a shot and made it my own. There are no vampires or werewolves, no time travelers or creatures from another world. Just a few otherwise normal people who have some really unusual abilities.

Take Aidan McConnell, the hero of COLD SIGHT. He’s a psychic…but his gift is a somewhat unreliable one. It’s not like asking a mental question and getting clear-cut answers…he gets hit with all kinds of sensory input and has to figure out what it means. For instance, when a girl who once waited on him at a local restaurant goes missing, he is suddenly bombarded with the reek of rotting gingerbread…because the girl’s kidnapper is reading her a twisted, deviant version of Hansel & Gretel.

Let me say right up front–while it’s sexy and romantic and has some deeply emotional elements, this book is not all light and roses. Of course, if you read the Black CATs books, I know you’re already aware of that. However, even romantic-thriller fans have been surprised by some of the places COLD SIGHT goes…including a Plotmonkeys regular. (I DO understand Stacey — and still love you!) I think it’s more romantic and sexy than any of the Black CATs books, but it’s also sad. A little heartbreaking, in fact. I cried when I wrote it, and I don’t doubt it’ll bring tears to those who read it…but hopefully that’s okay. The best fiction, in my opinion, is that which evokes a strong emotional reaction in the reader. And I think I accomplished that in this book…I hope so, anyway!

I have just put together a book trailer for COLD SIGHT, which I’m posting below. I think it turned out pretty well. (I told Bruce that if this writing thing doesn’t pan out, I might have to just start a company making trailers for other writers!) Anyway, I hope you’ll check it out. I hope you’ll pre-order the book, and I REALLY hope you’ll read  it!

In the meantime, to help me get the word out about this book, I am looking for book bloggers/reviewers who might be interested in checking it out. I will have my author copies within the next week or so and am willing to send out FIVE copies to five different reviewer/bloggers. There’s only one condition: I ask that you review it during the first two weeks of its release. IE: Somewhere between June 29-July 13! That’s it. Like it or hate it, shred it or rave about it, that’s not my call. I only ask that you talk about it. Okay? Just leave a comment below, mentioning where you review and/or blog, and I’ll pick five random winners tomorrow.

Oh…and one more thing. I’m very excited to announce that NAL-Signet has chosen COLD SIGHT to be the featured paranormal title for July on Penguin’s paranormal romance website. I wrote a brand-new, EXCLUSIVE prequel to this story, which will appear on that site, and only there, in July. I’ll be posting a link a little closer in. It was a pretty interesting project–getting to go back to before this book ever began and work with characters who hadn’t yet been molded into the people they became in COLD SIGHT. A great writer’s exercise, that’s for sure!

Anyway, here’s the trailer…hope you enjoy!

Leslie

LeslieLeslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

{{{{hugs}}}} Leslie! I love you too LOL. Yes readers, this is an extremely, extremely emotional book, so be prepared for that. I haven’t finished it yet, but what I have read I’ve (mostly) LOVED. It’s very intense and dark, and without giving anything away, I’m at a place where I was left completely heartbroken. I know I need to keep reading, so I will, because I know Leslie is an amazing writer and will make it work. Writers get us to feel, even if we don’t always agree with the direction they’ve taken. It just might take me a few days to be ready for that.

That being said, I highly recommend Cold Sight. It is amazing.

Thanks Stacy..I so “get” having to be in the right place to read a book. I don’t know if anybody else remembers her, but my favorite “grand dame” romance writer was Laurie McBain, who was big back when Kathleen Woodiwiss was in her heyday.

McBain had this amazing ability to rip my heart out with every book. The love stories and romances were wonderful, but invariably, some character I utterly ADORED would die. I cursed her through my tears…but absolutely could not miss one of her books.

PS: Sorry I misspelled your name. I guess I was channelling Stacey Rhodes (from Fade to Black…lol!)

:cheer: Leslie, I really liked and enjoyed yoru book tralier. :cheer: I agree with your comment about wanting your reader to experience the emotions of the story. Otherwise, IMO, reading would be dull. I like the sudden chills, terror, and mystery mixed in with romance and desire. It is the main reason I read and write paranormal. It has it all.

I can’t wait until your book, Cold Sight, is available. Count on me ordering mine. What are the chances of doing a book club reading for Cold Sight? Just a thought:-)

Cold Sight is awesome! Dark and twisty at times, and very emotional at other times(Stacy I promise you will love how it all plays out). Yes I had to read something light after it, and I even cried quite a bit during certain parts of the book, but so worth it in the end. I love your new series Leslie. You know I’m still hoping for more Black CAT books, but have to say this new series has me totally hooked.

Leslie, loved the trailer (well, most of it!!). If you remember, I had reservations about your Black Cats series but was thoroughly hooked on them. You are so talented that I can’t wait to read Cold Sight. Great cover, Aiden looks like one of the “dark & dangerous” types that I seem drawn to!! :?

I’ll be looking for this one to hit the bookshelves. :cheer:

Thanks Donna–I do remember that! Honestly, Cold Sight is probably more upsetting than the Black CATs books, but it’s not as violent. Not as many on-the-page deaths, it’s a big more psychological, I’d say.

Hey Les, I am looking forward to reading this one. You know how I feel about books that grab you on the emotional level. That’s part of the reason why I LOVE your books. You make me laugh, cry, get really ticked off, and fall in love. I do love the trailer, and Vonnie, a sista…love it.

The Black CATS books were great. You really should read them. I read the first one and then was standing and waiting for my mailman for the others, very impatiently. LOL I also watched the trailer and read Leslie and Stacey’s reviews and can absolutely not wait for this book. I was a little skeptical at first because paranormal are not my favorite, but I am willing to give this one a try. I can’t wait. I am also a Goodreads reviewer and an Amazon.com reviewer. I will help get the word out, starting with putting it on my Too Read for June 2010 list.
