Anybody here interested in astrology?
Every month, on the 1st, Bruce sends me an email with our horoscopes for the upcoming month. Believe me, I am NOT a huge believer in this stuff, but he is amused by it, so I will typically read the horoscope (which he calls a “weather forecast” rather than an actual predictor of what might happen…I can dig that) and then promptly forget about it.
But I have become a real believer in one part of astrology. I am certain this doesn’t apply to everyone, but I have to say that in my family, the descriptions of character in the signs of the zodiac is so dead-on it might have been written about us!
Here’s a link to a page which has descriptions & keywords that describe the signs of the Zodiac.
Take me. I’m an Aquarius. Aquarians are usually big-picture people. Very creative and original but also impatient and mercurial. Uh…yeah, that’d be me. They are described as: Clever, humanitarian, inventive, original but also stubborn, unemotional, sarcastic and rebellious. Oh, yeah, SO me!
Then there’s Bruce—aka the “nice” parent, the thoughtful, loving, romantic, considerate one. He’s the dreamer (I’m the pragmatist) he’s also a little bad about the follow-through, refuses to make a decision, and is always more concerned about other people’s feelings (mine and my girls, primarily) than his own.
Guess what his sign is: Pisces. Here’s how Pisces is described: Compassionate, adaptable, accepting, devoted, imaginative but also oversensitive, indecisive, self-pitying and escapist. Hmm…wow, 2 for 2.
Then there’s oldest. She’s a Cancer. She’s the tree-hugging, let’s-go-to-India-and-work-with-refugees one who founded the Free Tibet group on her college campus and wants to get her graduate degree in “Peaceful Conflict Resolution.” (Not kidding—that’s the name of the program!) She’s also EXTREMELY sensitive and easily wounded and vulnerable…and more than a little moody. A sweet, tender young woman who is one of the loveliest souls I’ve ever met in my life. Here are the key-words for Cancer: Loyalty, Dependable, Caring, Adaptable, Responsive but also Moody, clingy, self-pitying and oversensitive. Yep, we’re still on track.
Middle, who just had the birthday Sunday, is my Taurus, and a more apt description (the bull) could not be found. She’ll give you the shirt off her back, but she’ll crack wise while doing it. She’s incredibly loyal, though blunt, unsentimental, down-to-earth, TENACIOUS, consistent and salt-of-the-earth, with a head as hard as a rock. She could not possibly be more unlike her older sister.
Here are the Taurus key words: Dependable, persistent, loyal, patient, generous, but also, laziness, stubborn, possessive, materialistic.
And my youngest. The one we dubbed Dexter at the age of 8 (Dexter, not after the serial killer, but after the mad scientist from the cartoon Dexter’s Laboratory.) She’s extremely scientific minded, decided in 4th grade that she wants to be a forensic pathologist. She’s unemotional, so smart it’s a little scary, rigid, a bit stand-offish, can be viewed as cold by those who don’t know her. I’m also describing my mother here…guess what sign they both are/were? Virgo.
Here are the Virgo keywords: Analytical, observant, helpful, reliable, precise, but also skeptical, fussy, inflexible and cold.
Interesting, no?
Now I realize that you can take any prediction or forecast and kind of “twist” it to make it fit, but I’m talking about personality here. And if I had to quickly just come up with 2-3 words to describe each and every one of us, they would hands-down be the key words on those lists. And, as you’ve probably noticed, we’re all really different!
What about you? What’s your sign—and do you think it reflects who you are? Feel free to visit the link and read a little more, then come back and share your thoughts!

Leslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

The only part of Aquarius that doesn’t fit me is the unemotional part. I’m half Sicilian. There are more emotions just beneath the surface than oil in the gulf. I have just had to learn to control them better than BP did. I don’t normally read a horoscope either. I used to get one on facebook daily but it seems to have disappeared.

I find astrology interesting, and fun, but I don’t really believe much about it. I think the description for Virgo could have been Libra – which is my sign. So I see many characteristics from all the signs could fit one person, so it’s fun, but not a perfect explanation. That being said, I do read my horoscope most days. It’s funny when they are all different *g*

I’m Sagittarius and agreed with almost everything written about that sign. The only thing I disagree with is the bit about being unemotional and temperament. If anything, I can be very temperamental.
My closest friend is also a Sagittarius and I found it amusing that I was able to identify him in most of the things written too – even though I wouldn’t normally notice those similarities.
While I do read my horoscope occasionally I usually just take it with a grain of salt.

I’m a Scorpio and some things are right but others aren’t me. I am controlling primarily at home, but have gotten away from it at work. The money thing doesn’t fit me as I’m bipolar and money managment has been my downfall. I am very flexible and versatile. I’ve learned to forgive and forget over the years. My Pisces husband is the grudge holder in our family.

I don’t believe in the daily horoscopes, but I do believe that most us fit the description of the sign under which we were born. I’ve never seen that description of a Virgo before, but I fit. Everything except the “cold” part. I’ve even read descriptions of Virgos where it talks about them having stomach problems because all of their emotions settle in their stomach. *waves hand*
The odd thing is that I think Virgos aren’t supposed to be compatible with Tauruses (I think I read that somewhere). But every single important person in my life, that I’m really, really close to – my husband, my mom, my step-mom, my bestfriend – are all Tauruses.
Guess I like the challenge!
Comment
You know, the words themselves don’t always have a literal meaning, in my opinion. For instance, the two Virgos in my life–my mom and my youngest–might be thought of as being “cold” by outsiders, people who aren’t in their inner circle. In truth, they were/are just a little reserved, self-protective. It’s not coldness, it’s a tiny bit of formality, I think.
Just my 02, anyway!

I am a Leo, but I don’t like to be the center of attention. I’d rather sit and make the cookies, rather than pass them out. Hub is a Leo, too, which is not a good combination. Now, HE loves to pass out the cookies.

I’m a Taurus through and through – read the description of a Taurus and you will know a lot about me. What I think is funny is that as I am getting to know my extended family lately I have discovered that there are a lot of us May birthdays, no wonder we are all so alike.

Leslie, I KNEW I liked Bruce!
And you, too. And now I’ll be singing “Age of Aquarius” all day!

Well, technically, I’m a Cancer, but I was born on a cusp, so I tend to take more of the Gemini traits. And that one does fit my personality much more perfectly.
Traditional Gemini traits: Adaptable and versatile (mmm…when I have to be!) Communicative and witty (I’d like to think so), Intellectual and eloquent (so I’ve been told), Youthful and lively (I try…) On the dark side…. Nervous and tense (Panic disorder, hello?), Superficial and inconsistent, (Nope…I’m neither of these, I don’t think) Cunning and inquisitive (definitely both.)
The dual nature of the Gemini is what is mostly me. I can be very different people in very different situations. It’s both a blessing and a curse…sometimes, I don’t know if I’m coming or going!
I don’t believe astrology can predict the outcome of your life, but I do think it applies to personalities. And it’s fun!

This is all further complicated by your rising sign. The sign rising on the horizon at the time and place of your birth. That’s what generally determines your outward personality, the one that people (esp. the ones who don’t know you well) see. I’m a Capricorn rising – responsible, serious, etc. We don’t know what Leslie is because no one in her family can remember what time she was born. Also, depending on when your birthday falls during the month you could have a little of the sign before or after yours. Plus the moon and all the other planets…it gets complicated. It is really interesting to have a full chart done.
The general daily forecasts are pretty useless. I do look at the monthly forecast and treat is as a “big picture” kind of thing. That’s why I call it a weather forecast. It let’s me know if I should bring an umbrella.
As for whether it’s true or not…Mercury was in retrograde all last month. It rules communication, contracts, computers, electronics, etc. On the same day daughter #1 and #2 reported to me that their computers were dead. I stopped receiving emails on my phone for absolutely no reason and it didn’t work all month. Started working, again for no reason, the day Mercury started moving forward again. Coincidence?????
Andrea, be patient with those easily and deeply wounded Pisces. It takes them a while to get to that forgive and forget place
.
Ev, it must’ve been the same Facebook app that I had. Mine disappeared too.
Comment
I had totally forgotten about the computers/cell phone thing. That was a little freaky!
PS: Bruce and I probably shouldn’t be so incredibly happy, given some of our traits, but we’ve managed to make it work, right honey?
Comment
We have indeed my love

Oh, and to show the opposite…my daughter is a Capricorn. She doesn’t fit that personality AT ALL. She’s much more like an Aquarius! I’d say she was born early, but she was actually a week late!

What a fun post, Leslie! You know, the sun sign is just a very small part of it and sometimes that’s the reason for “this just doesn’t fit me.” Recently I discovered this site http://www.alabe.com/freechart/ and there, if you know the when and where (exact time and city) a person was born, you will get a full chart. This includes the “rising sign” (which is the *real* you, not the you the world sees) and the “moon sign” (which is your emotional side). I recently did a test for all four of my family and WOWZER, it was freakishly accuarate! It used to cost a fortune and take weeks to get a full chart like this, but they do it for free in seconds.
I adore astrologyzone.com (I think you turned me on to it, or Bruce did) but even they recommend that you read for both your sun and rising signs.
Can I just say that I love Bruce? Because I do.

Wish I knew my birth time so I could do that, Rocki! As it is, I am going to plug in everyone else’s.
And yes, you may say that you love my husbayd, because we both love you, too.

Les, that was very enlightneing. Really scary true!!

I’m a Taurus as is my husband and it’s not true that only opposites attract. Though I must say my husband is very patient with me since I tend to be very
stubborn and have a temper, (it must be love). We do share loyality and are dependable and share several intrests which make life less bumpy along the way…

Okay, I’m a Capricorn and I read the description. I was born January 14th. I’m sorry but most of the description doesn’t apply to me at all. It says I’m deep and mysterious and full of intrigue??
Ridiculous. I wear my heart on my sleeve. My emotions are all over my face. It also says I’m unimaginative? Total and complete clap trap!! I’m a writer, I have great ideas, I have a vivid imagination and I write damn good books thank you very much. I’m also brutally honest and extremely loyal. I stand up for my friends no matter what is barrelling down the pike. I’m there. When Armageddon comes baby, I’ll be right by your side! Friendship, loyalty and honesty are in my DNA. I’ve never taken so much as a pen. I wouldn’t pick a flower out of someone’s yard without asking. I never park in the handicapped spaces. I didn’t say I don’t have weaknesses though because I definitely do. Like now, here I am ranting and taking on the cloak of martydom.
But conceited, dictatorial and inhibited–I’m not!! So there!

Cher, read what Roxanne & Bruce wrote. Maybe you should follow the link, enter the time you were born and check what it says about your rising sign!

And Bruce loves Rocki! And oh you are SO Leo rising
.
Since you mentioned the moon sign which is the emotional side, I will say that on top of being a Pisces sun…I am also a Pisces moon. And that’s all I’m gonna say about that.
Hey Silver, actually you’re in good shape. First of all because you’re a Pisces
. Pisces and Virgo are 180 degrees apart, directly opposite each other. Generally those signs are complimentary.

This is why we love each other, and that is all. xoxo

I am a Libra, but I am on the cusp so I have some Scorpio traits… It was fun to read all about the traits of individual horoscopes… years ago a friend let me borrow a book that described every horoscope… I enjoyed seeing what they said Libras were and a bunch was actually correct!

I forgot to mention–I am blogging today at http://www.blazeauthors.com about Blaze-like movies. Please stop by!

I’ve always thought horoscopes were fun, but not to be taken literally!! I’m a Leo and some of the Leo characteristics are so me but others not. If you pay much attention to actors/actresses, singers, entertainers many of them are Leo’s. Alfred Hitchcock was born on the same day I was, different years!
Leo’s strenghts, confident (usually), ambitious (not terribly), generous (yes), loyal (yes), encouraging (yes). Weakness, pretentious (no), domineering (can be), melodramatic (not really), stubborn (oh yea!), vain (no) maybe when I was younger.
I’ll have to dig up my birth certificate as I can never remember the time I was born. This was a fun subject. See you on the Blaze authors blog!

Hey Les, great blog topic today. I checked the link you added, and I am kinda blown away by how close it is…I am a Virgo, and wow! I don’t think I am cold, but others do perceive me as a cold person. I am in my head all the time too, which makes me seem distant, but I am not…really! I tend to retreat into myself when trying to deal, as you guys know, but I am easy to get a long with.
Thanks for all the links. I know the time of my birth, so I am going to check out the other links here too.
It feels good to swing in the jungle again.

I’m a cancer and I’d say they’re about 90 degrees off center when it comes to who I am. Horoscopes are fun to read but are worse than weather man when it comes to predicting my day/month.

Ironically, I am the pieces and my husband is the aquarius! Ugh! He is so stubborn!

I’m a cancer, I have all the good quality’s and have none of those bad ones, except maybe I’m a little dependant on friends and My hubby the most. :)
My husbands and best friend are Leo’s. I get along with leos the best! I had 3 other boyfriends that were Leo’s. And my maid of honor was a leo. Love Leos’
My mom is an aqurious and I have always had not so good times with them. I can usually pick on out once I get to know them. But I love my mom, we talk all the time, 3-4 times a day lets just say she’s just not as sweet as I am all the time. lol

Actually, I created astrology charts for a year or so (years before computer-generated ones). I’m a Gemini (almost at the cusp so have more Cancer traits than Gemini); Scorpio rising; & Pisces Moon. Became interested when someone who was working under me, who didn’t know anything about me, created my chart in his head from my birth info, & told me, “you have Saturn in 5th House, so, I see lst child, disappointing (she was Down’s Syndrome) & 2nd child, ill (he had chronic asthma for years). Pretty right on. Astrology is helpful to understand people, at least in a general way.

Hm… I’m a cancer – and some fits me, but some doesn’t. And I think it depends on the days
We water signs, you know.
And/but there’s the Asian zodiac – and there my sign i think essentially contradicts the characteristics of a cancer! So.

I’m a Scorpio and the basic personality description fits pretty well. Especially the part that says:
The best advice is to be honest with a Scorpio friend and in return, you will gain an amazing friend you will never forget and who will be loyal to you and never make false promises.
Loyalty and sincerity are important to me in all my relationships, be they romantic, friendship, business, etc.
I’m also a passionate personality as you can tell by my love of romantic books and movies :)
Astrology fascinates me and I wish I knew what time I was born so I could figure out the rising sign and all that other stuff too.

Not so much for me. I’m an Aries.
Aries Strength Keywords:
- Independent
- Generous
- Optimistic
- Enthusiastic
- Courageous
I’ll bite with the enthusiastic and generous…not so much on the others…asked hubby and kids for verification.lol
Aries Weakness Keywords:
- Moody
- Short tempered
- Self-involved
- Impulsive
- Impatient
once again asked…not moody, short tempered, self involved, impulsive or impatient…I am usually calmer then the rest of them….never blow…in fact…I’m a crier, i spend all my money doing for others, all my time doing for others, as for impatient and impulsive…hubby calls me VANILLA because I think things through and don’t like to take risks other than the harley…lol
Aries and Friendship:
Aries are good friends, they always look out for their friends with caring and generosity and will protect them should the need arise and encourage them with their natural optimism.
agree with this half
If confronted, Aries can turn to be quite childish, they will fight back with their agressive nature and are known to have temper tantrums should they not get their way.
disagree with this half
Aries in a Nutshell:
Aries is the first of the zodiac signs. Aries is the sign of the self, people born under this sign strongly project their personalities onto others and can be very self-oriented. Aries tend to venture out into the world and leave impressions on others that they are exciting, vibrant and talkative. Aries tend to live adventurous lives and like to be the center of attention, but rightly so since they are natural, confident leaders. Aries are enthusiastic about their goals and enjoy the thrill of the hunt, “wanting is always better then getting” is a good way to sum it up. Aries are very impulsive and usually do not think before they act – or speak. Too often Aries will say whatever pops into their head and usually end up regretting it later!
ummm…nope…sorry…they all disagreed…including my neighbors…lmao
oh well … there’s one screw up in every crowd…and I guess it’s me this time.
