Invasion of Little Girls
Julie Icon

I am doing today’s blog post from my iPhone not because I am out of town, but because my house has been invaded by little girls who have completely taken over my house, particularly my office. My daughter’s best friend is visiting for two days from Pennsylvania. Luckily, I finished all my writing for the day while they were playing outside, but now they’ve hijacked my computer and by the time I finally get them to bed, I’ll be too exhausted to blog, so I’m posting from my phone.

Of course, my question of the day is about sleepovers! Did you have them as a kid? Did you stay up late and eat junk food and giggle? As inconvenient as it might be for my blogging, I love it when the girls come over. I order pizza and make rice krispie treats and let them stay up too late. This is the stuff childhood is made of and I’m so lucky to like all of my daughter’s friends. What about you? Like them or love them…now or in the past?

I have some winners to post from last week’s contests…check back here this afternoon. Once I get my computer back, I’ll post the names!

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

I remember going to a few sleepovers when I was a teenager (not so many when I was younger). They were fun. We’d watch movies, eat a lot of junk food, and talk about boys. Wish we still did that LOL. Well we kinda still do, but now it involves a bar or restaurant.

Yup, sleepovers are fun for the kiddos. Usually involves me crawling out of bed a few times in the night to say “G’night, kids. Go to sleep….” Now that two are in high school, it’s more an invasion of the boys some evening with their endless appetites. But that’s fun, too, because they seem to like my cooking. Or will just eat anything that’s not moving. :)

I have four teenage/tween boys and our house is the go to, so we have at least eight-ten boys every night in our yard, or eight-ten stinky, sweaty little boys who take over our basement and kitchen every weekend!

I used to love sleepovers as a kid…my friends and I would get together every weekend at one of our houses…stay up all night, eat snacks, play games, and, of course, laugh!!! It was great fun. Especially the nights we would decide to watch scary movies…LOL.

I had sleepovers when I was younger, but some of the best ones were from high school. Stayed up pretty much all night to watch movies, eat lots of junk food, talk about boys, and even make a few prank phone calls.

We have the hangout house, so I always have extras (that is what I call the extra teens). I almost hope for a good grounding so we have some peace and quiet. LOL :winking:

I get to tease that I used to sleep with the Lt. Governor of the state (who’s running for Governor)! Of course, we were in grade school at the time and somebody in the group was always having a sleep over. I have some wild tales about her but we’ve all been sworn to secrecy. :zipit:

The Only had some when she was small. She usually conked out and the rest of the girls stayed up giggling. I don’t really miss those days…much.

I remember a few. My son has had one over and a couple out. My daughter one out none in. She does not make friends well.

Speaking of girls my dh is 11 and today, not the first time either, I caught her making a crude joke. It involved an apple, orange, and banana–not in that order.

Is this normal? Yikes! I can’t remember.

    Hi Julie,

Yes, I did sleepovers with my friends. We had some really good times, giggling, listening to the radio, playing games, eating junk food, and laughing our heads off. Sure brings back some fun memories! :mickey:

Ah memories! Yes, I did sleep overs! We had a big backyard and in the summer several of my friends would come over with sleeping bags to have overnights in the backyard. What fun we had, very little sleep but lots of fun & snacks. :giggler: My birthday is in August and that was the best party an overnight, backyard sleepover!! 8) I don’t remember my daughters having more than one at a time but maybe I have forgotten.

Julie, I hope you got some sleep & that your daughter & friends had a good time. :flowers4you:

Hey Jules…kicked out of your own office…LOL!!!

I never had sleepovers or went to any as a kid. I always wanted to though, but alas, the time has passed for that.

I hope the sun is shining so that you can take the girls outside to get some fresh air.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

I loved sleepovers as a kid! And pigging out, staying up late, and watching scary movies was our way of partying. I’ve actually had a few sleepovers with my best friends as adults. And we do the exact same things as when we were kids, with the addition of wine.

My parents weren’t big on sleepovers, so now I have to spoil the kids when they have kids over to make up for my lack of them. For my teens I buy them pop, tons of munchies, make a fun dinner and then let them stay up til whenever… as long as they don’t keep me up. :zzzzz:

We used to put up a tent in our backyard and have a little camp out. My friends and I would stock up on candy and hide it in our pillowcases. We would also run an extension cord to the tent and bring out my little tv – sometimes the playstation as well. I wouldn’t call what we did “roughing it” in the least. Always fun.

Hi, everyone! Good to know I’m not the only one who loves sleepovers!

I’m sorry I wasn’t around today. Apparently, AT&T decided to change their email system and I spent three hours on the phone and another two hours separately trying to change all my accounts over so that I’ll have email after today. Nice April Fool’s trick on their part…and I hate April Fool’s Day. I’m only now getting the computer and will post my winners later in the week…probably Friday.

I haven’t gotten a word written today, so off to work!!!

I would spend the night next door at my friends house. I seldom had sleepovers at mine- we didn’t have the space and it wasn’t a good thing anyway sometimes. I also did sleepovers at another friends house, but after a bad incident that stopped.

My daughter had some too but she was never big on them. We seem to be just a couple of old loners I guess!

I used to have sleepovers at other people’s homes (usually church related) and it was super fun. People don’t seem to do that much around here anymore..

My cousins would sleep over all the time it would always start out as fun but before the night was over half of us would be fighting. Too many children in a small house without a lot to do.
