Over the Pond
Julie Icon

Part of cleaning my bookshelves has included digging through my foreign copies. Most of my category books have been reprinted in the UK and Australia, by the Harlequin division known as Mills & Boon. Sometimes they keep the same covers as the US versions, sometimes they change them. But I *think* the insides stay the same. I mean, I know they’re in English! Sometimes, they release them as a 2-in-1 with another author, so you get two great reads for the price of one.

M&B versionsFor this Wednesday’s Backlist Book Giveaway, I’m gifting TWO lucky Plotmonkey commenters with a set of books from the UK Mills & Boon. They include my first Temptations, as well as some of the first Blazes: SEDUCING SULLIVAN (I only have one UK version of this one, so the second winner will get the US reprint), PRIVATE LESSONS, GOOD GIRLS DO, EXPOSED, JUST WATCH ME…, DOUBLE THE PLEASURE, LOOKING FOR TROUBLE & UP TO NO GOOD. *Also* you’ll get 2-in-1 versions of my Temptation, PURE CHANCE (paired with HER ONLY CHANCE by the late, great Cheryl Anne Porter), INSATIABLE (paired with Carrie Alexander’s SMOOTH MOVES), WHAT’S YOUR PLEASURE (coupled with A SHAMELESS SEDUCTION by our own Janelle Denison) and BRAZEN & BURNING (in addition to Joanne Rock’s REVEALED.)

If you like fun, light contemporary romance, then you’ve hit the motherload on this giveaway!

Just answer the following question in order to win (continental US only because of shipping, sorry!)…Have you ever been to the UK or Australia? Would you like to go if you haven’t? What was your favorite thing about either place if you’ve been?

I’ve never been to either, but I think I’d like to go to England and eat at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. You know me, I’m all about the food. In Australia, I’d like to do just about anything…but I remember Nicola Marsh mentioning a certain pastry shop when she guest blogged here. I’d like to meet up with her there and have a cup of coffee and something decadent!

And a special :candles: HAPPY BIRTHDAY :candles: to ev!!!! Happy 50th!!!! :happybday2:

BTW, if anyone wants versions of my books in Italian, Japanese, German or Greek, I’m happy to mail them out at the cheapest rate to anyone in the continental US. Just pop me an email if you have someone who might enjoy reading a book in a foreign language.

Julie Leto

JulieBy all reports, Julie Leto was a sweet child once, somewhat shy, preferring to play quietly in her room making up stories. However, being raised with three brothers in a loud, primarily Italian household did have its influences and Julie discovered her inner tough girl. That’s probably why most of her heroines kick serious butt. Writing sassy heroines has worked out, as she’s sold over forty books to four publishers featuring strong, confident women. Julie lives in Florida with her daughter, a spoiled dachshund, a haughty lynx-point Siamese and a wide range of relatives all within driving distance.

Julie, count me out of the drawing – I’m in New Zealand.
I can confirm the insides do stay the same – I’ve got a few US versions of Blazes and Desires, and when I’m patient enough to wait for the publication I pick up the Mills and Boon titles that are published in Australia. Each month, we get 4 Blaze titles and they are always published 2 stories to a book (unfortunately its not for the price of one story though).
I’ve never been to either the UK or Australia. I’d like to travel to Australia to visit the family members who have ‘crossed the ditch’ to live. Not sure why I would want to go to the UK, but since I have yet to travel, I’m sure I will visit there anyway.

I would love to win these books. I had Seducing Sullivan and Private Lessons on my wish list with my secret santa group last year – didnt get them. :o <!

I have never been to either place. I am not much of a traveler but heard these places are wonderful. If I could overcome the thought of a LOOOONG plane ride, and the plane ride itself, I would definitely consider either the UK or Aust.

My fingers are crossed very tightly. :cheer:

    Happy bday Ev!

I love light contemporary romance! I am in the process of writing (what I hope will be) my first Blaze. I’d love to see some of your early work!

I’ve never been to Australia, and with my present fear of flying, I doubt I’ll go any time soon. I have been to London, though. Just before I turned 16, many years ago, my parents sent me on a teen tour throughout Europe. I remember visiting the royal palace and watching the changing of the guards. I remember Piccadilly Circus which is a major intersection in the heart of London. And I remember the london underground. It was the first time I was ever on a subway. I remember it being very clean and easy to navigate.

Oh, the mother load it is. Great prizes for today Jules.

Happy Birthday Ev!!!! :bdaypresent: Just remember, age is nothing but a number. Party like it is 1999… Have a blast today.

Jules, I have never been to England or Australia, but it is on my bucket list. I have wanted to go to those places since I was a little girl. Love the accents, and reading Victorian Lit really influenced my desire to go. I already own some of these books, but I would love to see how Mills & Boone presented them to those over the pond. The very first romances I read were pubbed by Mills & Boone. In Jamaica, we were owned by the Brits, so it made sense. That’s how I fell in love with Betty Neals, Anne Mather, Penny Jordan, Carole Mortimer, etc. I have to go to work, but I will check back in later this evening.

How is homeschooling going…btw? Are you on break this week, like most schools? Would love to hear some updates.

    Peace and love,
    Paula R.

I have never been to Australia but would love to go. I have a friend who lives there and even though we’ve known each other for years we’ve never met face to face. I went to England years ago but hardly remember it. I’d love to go with my husband.

Leslie, I forgot to say yesterday that Bruce is truly wonderful. But I must say I have a husband just as wonderful. :bananaangel:

I was fortunate enough to go to Europe when I was 21. We took what they used to call “a pajama tour” – a bus tour that was so fast you didn’t have time to get out of your pajamas between countries. It was a fabulous trip and a great way to see a lot in a short period of time.

We added a couple days at the beginning of our trip to spend in London. I would have to say my favorite thing there was our hotel. Our window looked down on Piccadilly Square. It was right at the beginning of the punk movement in London. My brother and I shared a room and we would hang out our window at all hours of the night and yell down to the crowd below. And, since it was the early 80′s and we were such nerds… we did our best Monty Python and the Holy Grail imitations to anyone and everyone. Is it bad that I’m not embarrassed by that even now, some 30 years later?!

As for Australia – Since the day I read the Thornbirds (my all time favorite book) I have longed to go – but it has never been in the cards. But, hopefully, one day….

    Happy Birthday, ev!

I have been to Australia twice. I don’t think I have done it justice. I was on a six week exchange the first time and studying overseas the second (I did have to do college work, you know). It’s a beautiful country and I miss Tim Tams, but I found them here, in the US. That, and Milo and Cadburys (it’s a different Cadbury than here). Go figure most of my favorite things are chocolate related.

PS: Julie–how funny that they paired up your Bad Girls Club 1 book with Joanne Rock’s, rather than with Tori Carrington’s, which came 3rd in the series! Then again, for some reason, they put out an anthology in Australia, with 2 of the 3 stories in the That’s Amore collection Janelle and I did…and swapped out Tori’s novella for an unrelated one by…Joanne Rock! lolol!

finally…someone found my weakness when it comes to books…for some reason…I love the mills and boon versions…yes…they are the same…but I love having the different covers….so…what the heck was the contest for them…brb…ok…checked…no…never been to either place…would I want to go??? Hell yeah…who wouldn’t want to go??? For one…England…I’d love to be able to meet authors like Kate Walker from there…meet her at RWA years back and would love to again…And Australia…hello…Bronwyn ???? Need I say more…yeah… I know…my reasons for wanting to go tend to go along with romance authors but that’s only because site seeing wise…why would you want to go to another country when we have such beautiful places to see in our own backyard???? And our own countrymen who could use our vacation/spending money to help them survive??? Other countries are nice but until this country gets on better financial ground I’d like to help by spending my hard earned money here.
    Thanks for doing this contest…hugs…Moose

I want to win these books. Have not read any of them so can stuff myself reading. LOL.. No calories..!!!!
I was lucky enough to be asked in 2002 by my sister to go to England and Scotland along with her daughter and our cousin. We were moving so fast I can’t remember all the places we did visit. I can’t find my photo album from the trip (still packed up from move 3 yrs ago). Spent week in Scotland and 8 days in England. I want to go back and spend more time and not have such a hetic schedule. One thing we did learn is if you are going to be traveling by train, pack very light. Trying to carry, drag your bags accross the station is no fun..LOL

I have been to the UK but didnt really see anything. It was a layover that just moved up between airports and onto another plane. I would love to actually go back and see things. And Sidney is one of my top wishlist destinations. Hopefully one day I make it.

Oh wow!! What a generous giveaway :)
I have wanted to visit England and Australia for a very long time. For some reason I’ve gone through the London airport several times on my way to another destination, but I’ve never stayed and explore England. If I do go, I definitely want to go visit the English countryside because I’ve heard it’s gorgeous! I would also love to visit Australia! Actually, I would go to both of these places simply to listen to the accents ;)

I have never been to UK or Australia. I’ve only travelled overseas once, to Eastern Europe–Prague, Vienna, Hungary, Budapest, etc. I enjoyed that trip very much as well and would love to go back.

I’d love to get the chance to travel to UK or Australia someday!

What a get giveaway! A terrific one! I have never been to either place. I would love to go to both but put in to a bind I would choose Australia to go to first. It has beachs, mountains, deserts and just about anything you could dream of in one country. I love U.K. with all it’s glory but Australia is the bomb!

    Happy Birthday Ev!

    Julie,

    you absolutely HAVE to come!
I’ll not only take you to the 1 pastry shop, I’ll take you to Acland Street, an entire street of them!
We’ll work our way down the street :D

Then there’s Brunetti’s, another absolute heaven of pastry delights…

    Just name the date!

I have never been to either of these places..would love to visit both if they could knock me out for the entire flight! I have a few Facebook friends from the UK and would love to meet them in person someday..Perhaps if they aren’t terrified of flying they will just come to me…:D

I haven’t been to either place and would love to go to both of them. I haven’t really been anywhere outside of the US I think it would be fun to travel but I don’t have the time or the money to do so.

I know that I am probably late for the give away….but sadly, I have never been to either country. Although those are two of my dream trips! I have very good friends in both places. One of my friends in Australia and I have been pen pals, yes back in the day when we still used paper and pen, LOL…we have been writing since I was in high school….I’m out of high school twenty years…….Also a very good friend of mine from high school now lives in New Zealand so I could just jet across to visit her! LOL!
And England is one of my absolute dream trips. I want to go to Althrop to see where Princess Diana is buried. I have been an admirer/fan of hers since her wedding. She didn’t live a perfect life, but she was an inspiration to so many. I once wrote her a letter and got a reply back from one of her ladies in waiting. That is something that I will treasure to my dying days.
    Hugs,
    Michelle

I’ve never been to either place and even though I would like to go to both places, I’m afraid to fly, so it’s doubtful I’ll ever go.

I’ve never been to either place, physically, though I’ve traveled to both thanks to the many books I’ve read that have been set in those countries. Someday I’d like to make it to both of them to see if they live up to my expectations.

Wow, I still say how nice that you’re cleaning out your house!! My family and I had an unexpected layover once in London. We hired a driver and toured the city. We still can’t believe what a fab time we had in only 24 hours. It was like a dream to see all the places we’d only heard about. We looked at our pics for prob a year!! Thanks, Sue
