This And That
Leslie Icon

Nothing really major on my mind today…just lots of random minor stuff.

Like vampires. I just finished watching a docudrama on Chiller called “True Horror.” It was about Vlad the Impaler. Afterward, I just sat here scratching my head going, “Vampire heroes? Really? Seriously?” Maybe that’s why I have never liked vampire romances. Vampires are monsters. This guy was freaking AWFUL!

Funny–right after this documentary ended, the show Moonlight (with the vampire private investigator) came on! Talk about timing.

Hmm, what else–

Snow days. Yowza. We’re at 10 right now. So far spring break is down to 2 days, and the school year has been extended by 3. And we’re only halfway through February. March is often the snowiest month here, so we’re a long way from in the clear. At this rate, she’ll be going to school til July!

Thing is, tomorrow’s cancellation wasn’t due to the new snow that fell today (only a couple of inches.) Instead, the problem is the previous snow that has already been plowed. It’s piled up eye-high everywhere, and there’s no way the kids can walk to school and/or the bus stop unless they walk in the street. Considering youngest gets the bus at oh-dark-thirty, I sure don’t like the idea of her having to stand out on a dark street.

What else–

This past weekend one of my sisters celebrated her birthday. We had a big dinner up here Saturday night. Turns out what she really wanted for her birthday dinner was a cookout–hamburgers & hot dogs on the grill. Now, you all know how AMAZING my husband is, right? Here’s the kind of guy he is. Because our grill was buried under 4′ of snow on our back porch, he went out and bought a small picnic-sized grill and stood out in the driveway in 20 degree weather for over an hour cooking burgers and dogs, half-dozen at a time, on this tiny grill. Just to give her a happy birthday. (And all of us grilled burgers…ahh, what a wonderful anticipation of summer!)

What a guy, huh?

Then the next day, Valentine’s Day, he had sweet cards and heart-shaped boxes of chocolates for me and the girls. And then made us an amazing dinner. Oh, man, chicken with walnut-bourbon sauce–amazing!

So what is going on with everybody else? Good Val Day? Any fun weekend activities?

Leslie

LeslieLeslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

I’ve always been weirdly fascinated with Vlad the Impaler since seeing Dracula with Gary Oldman. It was creepy to see he was based on a real historical figure. As for vampire romances, I like them very much, and don’t associate Vlad with their mythology. Less violent that way.

Not much going on here. Had a 3-day weekend, but worked part of it. Finished season 2 of The Tudors. Celebrated Dean Day (but you knew that LOL)

Stacy we’re re-watching The Tudors, too! LOVE season 1 & 2, found 3 a bit disappointing. I’m hopeful for 4 as Kathryn Howard & Kathryn Parr’s stories don’t get told often enough yet are so interesting!

Thanks again for all the Dean’ness. Hey, did you see my comment on my Parrish blog that I saw a rerun of Supernatural last night, in which Dean mentioned his birthday…January 24! Just like me! :candles:

It’s quiet here too. No snow and the kids have all week off.

Today is the last day I will be 49. :hissyfit:

Had a sick dog all day yesterday but I think he is feeling better today. We shall see.

I’m like Stacy- I can seperate the two. I like my Vampires and am looking at the DVD of Moonlight in front of me. Mmmmm….

I had a small gazebo built out back last year so I could grill all winter and we did for Xmas too. It was worth it (since I don’t have a driveway or garage).I love to grill.

You guys have the sweetest husbands!!

My guy did the same thing for his girls on Valentine’s Day. Single roses, heart boxes filled with chocolate and he went out and bought breakfast and brought it home for us. It was a wonderful surprise.
I have been staying inside cleaning house since it is so cold outside. It is not suppose to be so cold in south Georgia for so long.

Ev, Michele, I totally understand what you’re going through. Our little guy, Spike is 14 and we may have to put him down this week. I take him back to the doctor tomorrow and I’m dreading it. One of his salivary glands has swelled up for the third time and the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory haven’t gotten rid of whatever is going on. It could be cancer. The weekend before Val day the whole side of his face swelled up and we had to take him into the emergency vet because we were afraid his airway might become restricted. I have been crying for days now. It’s horrible to think I may have to say goodbye to my sweet boy.

My thoughts will be with you.

      Author Unknown
My Beloved Master, for not heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness
then the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick for though I
should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do. Speak to me
often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the
fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When
it is cold and wet, please take me inside…for I am now a domesticated animal,
no longer used to the bitter elements…and ask no greater glory than the privildge
of sitting at your feet beside the hearth…though you had no home, I would rather
follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest
home in all the land…for you are my Devoted Worshipper. Keep my pan filled
with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell
you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play
and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stay ready, willing and able to
protect you with my life, should your life be in danger. And Beloved Master,
should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away
from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful
boon to eternal rest…and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw,
my fate as ever safest in your hands.

Valentine’s Day was a day off for me. Puttered around the house with my sweetie, and then met good friends for an early–and terrific–dinner at an Italian place where the sausage rolls were divine.

Bruce is just a sweetheart, Leslie! What a keeper. Last weekend was low key and this coming weekend is my RWA chapter meeting. The Only is presenting the program–on historical research.

I’m up to my eyebrows in galley proofs at the moment so life is on hold until they are done. With luck, I’ll have a release date for FAERIE FIRE by my birthday in two weeks! That would be an awesome present!

We’ve had snow, too! Way more than usual. With each new storm, we look at each other and ask, “Global warming? Where?!!?” :snowguy:

The service was Five Star(tm), and the scenery was amazing. I’m still glad to be home, though. I like my own bed. Not to mention, I missed ya’ll! Srsly!

Sorry to hear about your fur babies, ev and Cher…
I am still sick. I think I have something in my chest, which is not good because I can’t really take care of myself and the little monkeys…fortunately, today is school, so I can kind of take it easy for a couple of hours.

On Valentine’s Day my husband left at 6:15 a.m. to take my son up to Albany for a soccer tournament. They got home at 9:45 p.m. I put the kibosh on expensive gifts this year, but he had the Whitman Sampler I wanted!

And oh how I love a man who will BBQ in the winter. My husband hasn’t done it recently, but I know he would if I asked.

On a sad note, sorry to all of you with pet troubles. I can’t imagine life without my dog!

Montgomery County, MD hasn’t decided where are extra days are going to be. We’re either losing break or days in June. I would like an answer, soon. We’ve got stuff to do and things to plan. Most other school districts have already made a decision. :-P

Hey Les, Bruce is definitely a prize! The day is going well. We had some snow this morning…boy was I hoping for a snow day, but no luck. Work still happened. I am just glad that my day off began after I taught my last class…yippee…! I am going to catch up on some sleep, then grade some papers, read, write some stuff, and maybe sleep some more. So, you’re not a fan of Vlad? LOL!!! Me either…the things that guys did to women were unthinkable. I am glad that you had only a couple of inches today because you guys were hit real bad last time a snow storm came through. Some of my friends in DC are still digging themselves out too. I am gonna go now. See you later.

    Peace and love,

we had that happen once about 4 years ago…so much snow and snow days that they had to cancel April Vacation and they still had to go to school till the end of June (can’t go past June 30 because of the fiscal year thing). It wasn’t my kids school…it was the school the next town over… it is on the Mountain of the Mohawk trail and is extremely dangerous….sucked because mil was a teacher there and couldn’t do her usual vacation with her grandkids…lol.
not huge on the vampire thing either..do I do like the twilight series…. not so much for the romance…just seem to like it….don’t know why exactly..lmao…cute guys??? LOL
And we had three bday parties this month too…dad and two sisters…. 60 42 28… but don’t let on I told their ages…lmao
