I’m feeling a little better than I was last week–sore throat is gone, though the sinus congestion is still lingering. Ick.
Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m out and about in the world and back to normal. Because, as you all probably know, Maryland/DC got hit with a big blizzard this past weekend.
I’m talking BIG! I measured 28″ in my yard and some of the drifts were 4-5′ high. I haven’t seen anything like it since I was a kid.
This makes our 2nd blizzard of the winter, and, believe it or not, they are now calling for another 12-20″ of snow tomorrow-Wednesday?!?!?!
I could be complaining but I’m not. First, it’s utterly beautiful outside–a real winter wonderland. We’re safe and warm and have power and plenty of food. We had a great weekend playing board games and eating junk food and watching movies (Zombieland! Woot! Plus season 2 of Dexter!) The dogs were not happy to be confined to the small bit of grass we uncovered for them, but the rest of us really did have fun playing in the snow and then staying inside, just being together.
Other people weren’t so lucky. There are places closer to DC where the snow plows haven’t come through even once–those people are staring out their windows at roads covered with 2-3′ of snow. Schools are closed again tomorrow, as are government offices. And the neighborhoods that aren’t plowed are probably looking at another few days if we get more snow tomorrow because the plows will have to leave the neighborhoods and go back out to the highways.
A lot of people also lost power–which would be a real nightmare. Fortunately, our neighborhood is pretty new and the lines are all underground, so we didn’t have any problems. The satellite dish got snowed over and Bruce had to stick a broom out an upstairs window to clean it off, other than that, nada.
Here’s hoping our luck holds through this week’s storm!
Thought you might get a kick out of seeing some pics of our snowy weekend. Enjoy!
PS: Anybody else get hit with any of this? What did you do to wait out the storm?
View from my front door, Saturday afternoon:
We had to shovel-out the car, but paid some guy with a snow blower to clear the driveway. That would have been a beast and it was too high to use Bruce’s little plow!
The snow was so deep, we could just fall backward into it…
Or even dive forward!
Getting up wasn’t quite so easy…
Of course, I had it better than Dulcie…she couldn’t see over the snow, no matter how high she jumped!
She tried to tunnel through, but her poor little paws couldn’t take the cold!

Leslie Kelly used to say she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, but then she discovered Nancy Drew books. Being a flashlight-under-the-covers-nose-in-book reader throughout her childhood, she couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do as an adult than continue to lose herself in fictional stories. Her real life marriage of 20 years to the man of her dreams is a constant reinforcement that happily-ever-afters really can happen…and that they’re worth writing about. Living in Maryland, Leslie spends her non-writing time laughing a lot with the above-mentioned romance hero and their three daughters. Though an author of more than thirty sexy, contemporary comedies, she has recently branched out to write dark romantic suspense under the pseudonym Leslie Parrish.

Amazing pictures. Glad you’re feeling better Leslie.
We’re supposed to get some snow, 6-12 inches predicted. I haven’t looked outside yet to see the damage.
Take care! (Seriously jonesing for another Parrish book!)

Ours is coming tomorrow!!!!!!

Wonderful pictures! Dulcie is so cute. Living in Spain, I have been missing snow, although your post is a reminder that there is such a thing as toooo much snow.

The snow is going to miss us. Again. The ground is green and brown here in Upstate NY. LOL I have been wishing for a snowstorm like this just so I can stay home and do nothing, but no go.
Back home in Syracuse they have been known to hire private plows to plow out the small roads while the big guys do the main roads. The blizzard back in the 90’s that we had (I was stuck on a bus for 8 hours trying to get home from work) showed that it works, especially if they are out there in the beginning and don’t wait until the end to start plowing. Although I imagine that you don’t have lots of pickups with plows in that area?
glad you are feeling better- if you have it, saline nasal spray helps along with the Mucinex.
And where are the icons???????

Love the pics of the snow. It looks like you guys had fun. My husband flew to Baltimore yesterday and is supposed to come home on Saturday. I hope the snow doesn’t hinder his return.
What happened to the icons??

Love the snow pictures Leslie. We got about 2″ last night, but then the rain came and melted most of it. However, we are on schedule for more snow today.

Leslie your pics are so funny! Looks like you had a great time in it though. We got hit like you did, 28 inches. We got our snowblower fixed in anticipation and of course after Jim cleared everything out, it broke again. Wants it back for tomorrow since we’re supposed to be hit with another 12-24 inches. My poor dog, Buddy, is who’s suffering the most. Last night he attempted running through it and I could only see his head. It really worries me. But we had a weekend of movies and cooking.
I work at a school that has already closed for tomorrow. Now I’m worried about Thursday.

That reminds me of our snow storm last year in the PNW (okay, in the PNW, we don’t have any thing that reminds us of a snow plow, so even two inches of snow slows us down)…we had 2 feet over two weeks. At least you have an oven that works (I wasn’t so lucky last year). This year, it’s been so nice and mild. I think after last year, I am happy. I do miss the snow (one or two inches would have been nice, nothing more).
I still have my sinus thing, too. I woke up this morning thinking, “when am I going to be better???” (I’ve had it for about two weeks, now). Grr.

Oh. My. God. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I’d be house-bound and stir-crazy if that was me!! I can’t stand to be cold and if I get out in the snow then I get cold through to the bone and it seems to take forever to get warm again.
We did get about 2″ of snow the first time you guys got it. Then we got sleet and freezing rain on top of that. The ice was so thick, it rained for 3 days and there were still patches of it in places. I went to Raleigh to see my son on Friday and they had a LOT of ice still piled up in places (I think they’d gotten about 6″ of snow/sleet/freezing rain).
Glad you’re enjoying – it’s a great attitude. Not much else you can do about it. LOL I hope everyone stays safe and that the power gets restored to those without it soon!!

Thanks for sharing your pictures. My children are looking forward to a snowday on Wednesday. I love sitting inside, wrapped in a blanket, watching the snow fall. The forced family togetherness is great too…..although they’d have to close the roads for my husband to stay home from work!

I’m over in Alexandria and we got hit pretty hard by this last storm. The kids haven’t had school in what seems like forever but we’ve been toughing it out playing games, watching movies(Zombieland, Extract, Moon, Gamer and I’m catching up on The Tudors). Thank goodness for Netflix and the PS3! Next storm on the way and we finally managed to get some sleds. Hopefully plows will make it through my area after this next one. Yesterday we hiked to 7-11 for some junk food, and I mean hike. The sidewalks are not fully done and crosswalks are scary- snow to my knees. Saw an almost accident- so close we had braced to toss the kids into a snowbank to avoid the crunching cars. Thankfully one driver slammed on the brakes and the other sped forward. It was scary though.
Stay safe and warm!

We have a niece and her husband in Tennessee who got a goodly amount of
snow. One of her photos show her husband shoveling away knee-high snow.
It looked pretty, but oh the work involved!
Our eldest granddaughter is attending college in Indiana and she is seeing
weather totally unlike anything she has ever seen here in Houston! But she
is loving the experience!

Hmmm! This all looks different, no Emoticons!
Leslie, thanks for sharing your snow pictures. The first ones are picture post card pretty & then it looks like you were all having fun. I’m glad your family had a fun weekend while you were snowed in. Hopefully you will have as good a time with this next storm. I wish you no power outages or other problems.

Glad you are feeling better Leslie. Thanks for sharing the pictures and that is a lot of snow.
We are getting our storm tomorrow here in CT and we just an e-mail saying my company that I work at is giving us a snow day tomorrow.

I live on the Southern Oregon coast so don’t see much snow.

Oh, what FUN, Les! Good luck on the new storm heading your way!!!!

Now I know where all the snow that was suppose to hit our region last week went.
Love the snow pictures.

Hey Les, I am glad that you are feeling better. Love the pics…don’t you just love looking at a place covered with untouched/unspoiled snow? I love it a lot, especially around Christmas time, but enough already. We are supposed to get dumped on tomorrow up North, but it is just supposed to be the one day. I am not sure if that is the way things are going to go though. Glad you had a blast, enjoying the snow day. You are a brave woman…I would never drop, dive or fall back into snow…I don’t love it that much. It looks like you and Bruce had a blast. Here’s to hoping you continue to get well, despite your playing outside in the cold. Love the pic from your front window, btw.
Peace and love,

Love looking at the snow pictures. So glad it is not where I live.
Poor little Dulcie she is too small for so much white stuff.

Great photos; all that snow is giving me a chill. They are not sure how much we could get – talking up to 14 inches, but maybe not. You know how that goes.

we keep getting the cold and the wind…but the snow keeps missing us…which is highly unusual for living in Massachusetts….new england is known for it’s horrible snowy winters…..But I think we are gonna get hit with the snow for tomorrow….hubby went out and got the four wheeler ready…plows on for the driveway…and the snowblower is ready for the damn sidewalk….me….I got ready by calling the oil company and making them fill my tank today so I wouldn’t have to worry about running out….lmao

Thanks for the great pictures. I would take snow over 22 degrees with a 10 degree wind chill which is what we have in Atlanta this morning.

Wow it looks like you guys had a blast but no wonder you are sick being out in the cold. LOL
I hope that snow misses you, we have way to much here also.
