Carly says … GO RED!
Carly Icon

I don’t talk about it much, but Heart Disease is a cause very close to my heart. My dad has coronary artery disease and I’ve lived with this knowledge my entire life. So during the month of February, I want to remind you it’s not just about Valentine’s Day. Today, February 5th is also GO RED FOR WOMEN day.

Did you know that heart disease is the Number 1 killer of women in America? According to their website, Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power we have as women to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke*. Today, wear Red in support of The American Heart Association and the GO RED FOR WOMEN MOVEMENT. I am!

So in support of GO RED FOR WOMEN post a comment for a chance to win this beautiful vintage style brooch made of chunky, garnet colored rhinestones. My purchase of the brooch for the winner supports The Go Red For Women Movement

If you want a second chance to win, I’m also running the same contest at Writerspace during the entire month of February – you can enter HERE.

So be good to your heart and comment today for a chance to win!

A note from Leslie: I’m guest-blogging at Writer Ink today. Please stop by!

CarlyCarly Phillips would like to take 100% credit for all her stories but the truth is, Carly’s strength is writing family, emotion, funky elderly people and animals. She couldn’t plot her way out of a paper bag, which is why she smartly found her plotmonkey pals early on in her writing career. Thanks to their support, Carly is now a NYT Bestselling author of 23 plus novels. Because writing doesn’t keep her busy enough, Carly is also a wife, a mother of one preteen and one teenage daughter, the primary care giver of her soft coated Wheaten terrier and an expert carpool mom.

I think it’s a great cause and how appropriate that it’s in February. I wear a work uniform, but I’ll be sure to include some red underneath.

The brooch is beautiful and the fact that it is in support of Go Red for Women makes it even more amazing. I think everyone probably knows someone whose life has been affected by heart disease. So kudos to you for supporting this great cause. It was also nice to see Project Runway get out the same message last night with a challenge involving Go Red for Women.

This is a cause close to my heart- literally. I’m 35 and I have several heart issues that I deal with on a daily basis- lots of medicine, diet and exercise. I was relieved to find out a few months ago that the electrical problem with my heart isn’t hereditary and so my kids probably won’t have it (which is something I constantly worried about). I’m hopeful that campaigns like this one will raise awareness and spread the word. Doctors are still so conflicted about treatment options for woman because we don’t always have the same symptoms as men, if we have them at all. This is a great cause and I’m thankful that you support it!

    Great cause Carly.
My 35 year old son had what is known as a pause, the heart stops for a second or two, yesterday and “hit the deck”, his words.
It scared the whole family especially me, he is my baby. I know , I know.
Anyway now he will get necessary treatment and observation.
My hubby has the same condition as did his Dad.
Hubby has a pace maker now. They weren’t available for his Dad.
So supporting the heart assoc. is very important.

We have a long history in my Dad’s family of heart disease. In fact, my Dad
died on the operating table after open heart surgery. When they took him
off the “machine,” he had a massive coronary and they were unable to save
him. I recently had a couple of incidents which caused my primary care physician to send me off for testing. My cardiologist reported, after a stress test, that everything is absolutely great!

I’m sorry about your Dad and hope you are keeping close watch over your own
health. Thanks for your support of the GO RED campaign!

I have heart problems among several other ones, but we really need our hearts so we need to take of them. ex husbands grandmother died at a young age for heart disease…ex husbands mother has them and takes meds and has medical issues…I help to take care of her (I divorced him, not her) I love her and would do it no matter what but mostly…I do it for my kids who love their grandmother and would do anything for her….she’s always been afraid of dying and not being there for her granddaughters…so every year they buy eachother angels to watch over eachother…it’s cute…and make the three of them feel better.

:madlyinlove: Thanks so much for bringing heart disease to the attention of women. I am a heart disease survivor of almost 10 years, having triple bypass surgery at the young age of 41. I suffered for seven months with symptoms and the doctors just wouldn’t listen to me because I didn’t have the risk factors. Finally, a cardiac catheterization revealed the blockages, much to everyone’s surprise. Thankfully I am here to talk about it. It is so important for women to know their bodies and push for proper care when they know something is wrong. I would really love to have this pin to proudly wear in support of my recovery!
